1 PUN EP DECEMBER 8, 2016 Honeywell Announces Optimized Optics and Upgraded Firmware for its N56XX Gen 6 2D Imager Honeywell is pleased to announce an upgraded version to its N56XX Series Gen 6 2D Imager, increasing depth of field performance and enabling new functionalities. The upgrade combines the qualification of an optimized optical lens and upgraded firmware (version BI000904HAA). Built on Honeywell's enhanced imaging platform, N56XX imager provides an optimized level of barcode and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) font reading performance with enhanced speed and accuracy. At the heart of the system is Honeywell s optimized imaging sensor that is designed specifically for optimum barcode reading. Standard N56XX SKUs Transition Plan This announcement and transition includes both the SR (Standard Range) and HD (High Density) optics versions. The ER optics version (Extended Range) is not impacted. Current standard SKUs will not change and will start shipping under a new revision letter AA on February 13, They will also be identified through serial numbers. Customers have until February 13, 2017 to test and qualify the maintenance release. For a list of standard SKUs that will benefit from the upgraded firmware and optics, please see the Appendix. Custom N56XX SKUs Transition Plan For our customers using custom SKUs, Honeywell will coordinate testing and approval to update those custom SKUs. The transition will be planned on a case-by-case basis. Please contact your Honeywell sales contact for further information and assistance. New Upgraded Depth of Field (DOF) Performance An important benefit of the new optical lens is the increase in DOF performance of both the Standard Range and High Density Range N56XX Series Gen 6 2D Imager. The typical specification differences are included in Tables 1 and 2. 1

N56XX SR optics and HD optics with white illumination: New Firmware Functionalities and Benefits In addition to an increase in DOF performance, the following functionalities have been added or changed within the new firmware. Current firmware is BI000492EAA and the new firmware version is BI000904HAA. They will be added to the N56XX Series User's Guide & Integration Manual at the release of the new firmware in production (February 13, 2017). 1. Optimized customer experience features Aimer is now ON in Streaming Presentation Mode: The aimer allows the end user to specifically target the barcode in order to read the barcode, enhancing the customer s user 2

3 experience in streaming presentation mode. New firmware enables the conversion of UPC-A barcode symbologies into EAN 13: Provides customers, particularly within the retail deployment environment, to keep a unique data format while managing two different symbologies without having to manage the conversion within their database and back office system. New PDF417 functionality (PDFXPR): This feature is primarily used in transport, identification cards and inventory management applications. The "History Expiration Count" command enables the ability to decode and combine partial PDF417 barcodes in multiple image captures, enhancing productivity. Multiple barcode reading: When Shotgun Mode is activated (continuous reading when trigger is pulled), the N56XX Series can read multiple barcodes captured in the same image. Centering Decode Mode parameters: Now saved in flash memory, eliminating the need for the customer to reconfigure upon re-start, enhancing productivity. 2. Enhanced productivity functionalities Improved cell phone reading performance in Streaming Presentation Mode (LED illumination level has been lowered). New cell phone reading enhancement enables optimized decoding performance on cell phone/tablet screens. This feature allows the ability to detect if there is a screen in front of the N56XX imager and adapts the decoding algorithm to enhance the customer s experience. New Decoding Enhancement (DECLDI) This new setting enhances the ability to read damaged or badly printed 1-D barcodes, improving Honeywell N56XX barcode readability. New Depth of Field Enhancement: Utilizing a unique Honeywell decoding algorithm improves DOF by up to 193%. Refer to Tables 1 and 2. LED illumination: Optimized to further improve reading ability in most lighting environments. 3. Enhanced security functionalities Redundant read selection: The customer can now select the number of redundant reads (up to 10) required before transmission of a specific barcode symbology, enhancing security. New security command: When the PDFXPR command is enabled, this setting allows the user to increase the security level to their requirements (can be set between 0 and 100%). 3
