3 1. Introduction The PMI Lizard 100 series are compact portable borescopes that allow users to execute inspection in restricted spaces which could not be directly observed with naked eyes. The PMI Lizard 100 series set includes a portable device, a camera tube, a cleaning kit, a power adapter, a video connector, and a 4GB SD card. The portable device with 4.8 TFT LCD screen is capable of viewing, capturing and reviewing photos and video images. Images can also be displayed directly on a TV screen. The portable device is powered by rechargeable Li Ion battery and a universal charger is included. 2. Operating instructions 4.1 Prepare for first use Insert SD card with arrow pointing toward slot as shown in the figure 4.1. Open the rubber cap on the left side of the instrument body, and gently apply pressure on the card until it locks into the spring loaded slot. Fig. 4.1 Insert the SD card 4

7 Connect the camera tube to the instrument body as shown in the figure 4.2 Hold on the connector at the end side of the tube, and aim the connector slot on the back side of the device then pull it into the slot until it s secured with a click upon attachment. Fig. 4.2 Connect the camera tube Press the power button (with the icon of ) 2 3 seconds to turn the device on, and the start up screen is shown briefly about two seconds as shown in the figure 4.3. 8 After the start up screen has disappeared, the live image from the camera tube would be shown on the monitor. This is image preview. The following sections will discuss about all the functions of this device. Before first use, it s better to format the SD card at least one time and properly set up the parameters in particular Language, Date & Time, and ISO (see section 4.5 Advanced settings and functions ). Proper set up of these parameters can make the operation of the Lizard 100 easier in the future. The figure 4.4 ~ 4.5 shows the configuration of screen in image preview. 9 Fig. 4.5 Screen in Video Mode (REC stop and start) 4.2 Standard functions Image Preview The image preview could be distinguished in two independent types, the camera mode and the video mode. The user can switch these two modes by clicking the mode button on the center of control panel. Both of these two modes can display live image on the screen, but the difference is in image recording way. The capture button under the control panel provides the trigger of snap shot or video REC. When user switches the preview state to camera mode, the function of capture button becomes snap shot trigger, but if the state is changed to video mode, this button will become the REC controller. The following section will introduce how to execute the photo snapping and video recording. 4.3 Photo snapping When the device is switched to camera mode, the mode icon on the screen will be changed as the figure 4.6, and the button with the icon become the shutter releaser. To click this shutter button can capture the current image in previewing. The mode icon will convert in red until the captured image has already been saved in file. The image files are automatically stored to the SD card in JPEG format with a file name in the form of a running number (eg. SUNP0001.JPG). Fig. 4.6 Icons for camera mode 4.4 Video recording Like the previous section, the icon will be changed to a video camera (as the following figure 4.7) when the video mode is active, and the capture button (with 7

10 the icon ) become the REC controller. In video mode, click the REC button will start the video recording with the icon convert in red color until user click this button again to stop recording. The video is automatically stored to the SD card in AVI format with a file name in the form of a running number (eg. SUNP0002.AVI) Fig. 4.7 Icons for video mode 4.5 Reviewing and deleting recorded photos and video Click the review button (with the icon ) can review all images saved in SD card, and switch each image by clicking the up and down button. In this mode, click the review button also can delete the current image, but user needs to select the option of YES or NO by using the up and down buttons to decide whether to delete the file. Then click the Enter button to confirm it. If the current image is the video type, to click the Enter button can play it on screen. Finally, click the menu button can stop reviewing and go back to the live image mode (camera mode or video mode). Fig. 4.8 Image review mode 1. Mode Icon (Reviewing) 2. 11 4.6 Advanced settings and functions The menu of advanced settings can be accessed by click the menu button in the preview mode (camera or video mode). Some of these settings need to be properly set up at the first time startup like ISO, Language or Date & Time, and user can edit these setting by using the control panel. The buttons of up and down are used to navigate or switch menu options, and the Enter button is used to confirm the settings. The following section will introduce these advanced functions in menu. a. Power Frequency Setting This option is for the setting of monitor refresh frequency. Navigates to the option of Power Frequency in the menu, and clicks the Enter button to select this option. There are two options of power frequency can be selected, which are as follow: [1] 50Hz [2] 60Hz b. Video Output Setting This setting can control the signal format of output video (please see the section 4.7). Navigates to the option of Video Output in the menu, and clicks the Enter button to select this option. Click the Up and down button to switch the setting. Then click the Enter button again to confirm this selection. There are two Signal systems can be selected, which are as follow: [1] NTSC (National Television System Committee) [2] PAL (Phase Alternating Line) c. Format Storage Media This option provides an easy way to format the storage media (SD card) installed in this device in FAT32. Navigates to Format in the menu, and clicks the Enter button to confirm this option. Then, to select the command of YES or NO by using the up and down buttons, and click the Enter button to execute the selected command. Be careful of using this option, as everything will be deleted from the SD card. d. ISO Speed Setting The ISO speed controls the sensitivity of the sensor that absorbs the light. Navigates to the option of ISO in the menu, and clicks the Enter button to select this option. There are four choices in this menu can be selected, which include one automatic option and three ISO speed options. These options are as follow: 9

12 [1] Auto [2] ISO 400 [3] ISO 800 [4] ISO 1600 e. Language Setting Navigate to the option of Language in the menu, and click the Enter button to select this option. Then click the Up and down button to switch the selection in different language, and click the Enter button again to confirm this editing. There are eleven languages can be selected, which are as follow: [1] English [2] Traditional Chinese [3] Simplified Chinese [4] Japanese [5] Korean [6] German [7] French [8] Spanish [9] Russian [10] Portuguese [11] Italian f. Date & Time Setting Navigates to the option of Date & Time in the menu, and clicks the Enter button to select this option. The format of time clock is as follow: Year(####)/Month/(##)/Date(##) Hours(##):Minutes(##):Seconds(##) Click the Up and down button to switch the selection of target parameter (Like Year, Month or Date Seconds), and click the Enter button to confirm this selection. When the target has been selected using the Up and down button to edit the value, and click the Enter button again to confirm this change. Then repeat these steps again and again until finishing the clock setting. Click the menu button can exit this state and go back to the root menu. g. Time Stamp Navigates to the option of Time Stamp in the menu, and clicks the Enter button to select this option. There are two types of time stamp can be selected, and user also can cancel this setting, and which are as follow: [1] Off [2] Date [3] Date & Time 10

13 h. Grid Line Setting There are two kinds of grid line patterns provided the reference of image capturing (snap shot and video recording). Navigate to Grid Line in the menu, and click the Enter button to select this option. Click the Up and down button to switch different grid line pattern. Then click the Enter button again to confirm this editing. The selected guide line will be active on the screen in image previewing. [1].OFF [2]. [3]. Fig. 4.9 One type of the Grid line show on screen i. Auto Timeout Setting This setting can control the machine to shutdown automatically when users stop using it for a while. Like the other parameters, navigate to the option of Auto Timeout in the menu, and click the Enter button to select this option. Click the Up and down button to switch the setting. Then click the Enter button again to confirm this selection. There are five options can be selected, and which are as follow: [1]. OFF [2]. 5 minutes [3]. 10 minutes [4]. 15 minutes [5]. 30 minutes 11

14 4.7 Output Video on TV Open the rubber cap on the left side of the main body, and aim the TV out connector by video cable. Then connect the device and TV with this cable, and the live image previewed in screen will be transmitted to the TV monitor. Fig Connect the device and TV with the video cable 4.8 Transferring images Turn the power on. Connect this device and computer with the USB cable. Look for the drive with the SD card files (see Fig. 4.11). The files can be transferred and reviewed on the PC. Alternatively the SD card can be removed and inserted into an SD card reader to retrieve these files. ( P.S.: The computer must be running MS Windows 2000 or later, Mac OS X. ) Fig File Storage path 4.9 Charging Open the rubber cap on the left side of the main body then aim the DC in connector (micro USB) by power adapter, and connect this adapter to the AC power plug (as shown in the figure 4.13). When the device is connecting to the AC power successfully the battery icon on the right side of the screen converts to the charging type (as shown in figure 4.12 red icon), and this device begins charging. Be careful, when the battery icon converts to the fully charge type (as shown in figure 4.12 green icon), please remove this power adapter from the borescope. 15 When the borescope begins charging, the LED indicator under the hole of the microphone (in the left top corner of the screen) will light up automatically. When the device stop charging, then this indicator will also light off automatically. Fig Connect the power adapter to charge battery. 13

16 5. Maintenance 5.1 Cleaning The device can be cleaned with a cotton cloth moistened with a mild soap solution. The lens of the camera can be cleaned using the brush by gently removing any dirt and dust. The lens cleaning fluid can be sprayed over the lens directly, and use a cotton swab and a suede wiper to wipe it off. But some organic solvents like acetone are prohibited. 5.2 Trouble shooting No. Trouble description Solution No image display after turning the power on. No image, only the caution message display on the monitor after turning the power on. Unable to capture image or record video. This device is already connected to the TV, but still no image displayed on the TV monitor. Normally remove the camera tube, but the screen become freeze then cannot control the main unit. The screen become white then cannot control the main unit. The software of main unit crashed (freeze or fail), and can t reboot the system by pressing the power button. The battery is exhausted. Connect the main unit to an AC power plug with the power adapter supplied and charge the battery (the charging indicator will light on). The Lizard 100 can be used when connected to AC power. Check that the camera tube is correctly connected to the main unit. If the caution message shows No memory card, please check the SD card is present, and the insertion is correct. If the caution message shows Memory full, please check the SD card capacity or change a new card. Check the connection of video cable is correct. Check the video output setting of Lizard 100 is the same as the TV s setting (NTSC or PAL) Please stab the reset button on the left side of the monitor (under the rubber cap) first, and press the power button again. 14

18 6.2 Software accessories The software Power Measurement is a post production tool offering image processing and measurement functions for borescope image inspection. Besides editing, the users can also analyze images by using the measurement functions. Before use, ensure that Microsoft.Net Framework 4.0 Client Profile is installed, this version of.net Framework can be downloaded in the Download Center of Microsoft website.
