5 1.0 - What is Included Refer to your Code Part Number with the following tables to determine what is included in your CR4100 order. For example, the part number on your order will be silimilar to: CR Rabc - de - F1. CR4100 represents the reader - R is for Radio Options a: B is for Bluetooth b: W for WiFi c: H for HSDPA (3.5G card) Next section is for User Options d: Keyboard (Q: Qwerty, N: Numeric) - - e: Color (W: White, G: Gray) F1 represents Firmware (software pre-installed on the reader) A standard package includes one (1) CR4100, one (1) Cradle, two (2) standard batteries, one (1) USB cable, and one (1) power supply. For units that include the HSDPA card, your package will also include, one (1) microphone/earphone and two (2) extra stylus pens. Note: For wireless options, if an option is not included, it is not necessary to insert a letter. For example, CR4100-RBW-QG-F1 is a CR4100 with Bluetooth and Wifi Options, QWERTY Keypad and the color is Dark Gray. 6 2.0 - Inserting the Battery 1. Using the flat portion of the stylus (Figure 1), insert the tool into the slot on the battery cover located on the back of the unit (Figure 2). Rotate the slot clockwise from LOCK to UNLOCK. 2. Making sure a portion of the strap is exposed (Figure 3), insert the battery such that the contacts of the battery are aligned with the pins inside the CR4100 (Figure 4). Figure 1 3. Place the cover back on the CR Using the flat portion of the stylus, rotate the slot counterclockwise from UNLOCK to LOCK (see Figures 1 & 2). Figure Removing the Battery 1. Using the flat portion of the stylus (Figure 1), insert the tool into the slot on the battery cover located on the back of the unit (Figure 2). Rotate the slot clockwise from LOCK to UNLOCK. 2. Pull on the strap, and the battery will pop out. Figure 3 3. Insert a new battery, or leave empty (see Section Inserting the Battery). 4. Place the cover back on the CR Using the flat portion of the stylus, rotate the slot counterclockwise from UNLOCK to LOCK (see Figures 1 & 2). Figure Attaching/Removing the Hand Strap 1. To attach the hand strap, using a Philips head screwdriver and supplied screws, attach the top portion of the hand strap to the back of the CR4100 (Figure 5). 2. Slide the plastic key on one end of the hand strap into the slot on the bottom of the CR4100 (Figure 6). Figure 5 3. To remove the hand strap, slide the plastic key on the end of the handstrap out of the slot at the bottom of the CR4100 (Figure 6) and use a Philips head screw driver to remove the screws in the top portion of the hand strap (Figure 5). 7 2.3 - LED Indicators on the Reader LED Position Description of LED LED Status LED Meaning 1st LED Good Read Indicator Flashes Green Good Read 2nd LED Wireless Indicator Flashes Red Weak Wireless Signal 3rd LED Charging Indicator for Battery in the CR4100 Flashes Blue Solid Red Solid Green Strong Wireless Signal Charging Charging Complete LED Indicators on Cradle Depending on the revision of Cradle you have received, there is one of two possible descriptions next to the LED light. These could be PWR or a icon. Regardless of which Cradle you have received, the LED indicates the charging status of the spare battery being charged in the back slot of the Cradle. RED = Spare battery charging. GREEN = Spare battery charging complete. 3

8 2.5 - Charging the CR Make sure a battery is installed in the CR4100 (see Section 2.0 Installing the Battery). 2. Insert the CR4100 into the front charging slot of the Cradle with the screen and keypad facing forward (Figure 7). 3. The LED on the CR not the cradle - will illuminate. Refer to the LED Indictor section (Section 2.3) of this QuickStart Guide for LED charging status/light descriptions Charging the Spare Battery Figure 7 1. Align the metal contacts on the battery, such that they make contact with the charging pins in the cradle. 2. Place the battery into the rear slot on the charging Cradle (Figure 8). 3. The LED on the front of the Cradle will illuminate. Refer to the LED Indictator Section (Section 2.3) of this QuickStart Guide for the LED charging status/light description on the Cradle. Figure Charging Cradle Connectors Connectors are located on the back of the Cradle (Figure 9) V DC: Insert the barrel jack of the power supply into this connector. 2. USB Client: Connect the communication cable (supplied) to the Cradle and the host device (PC). 3. USB Host: Can be used to connect peripheral devides, such as keyboards, to the CR COM: Can be used to connect to peripheral deivces or used to ActiveSync with host PC. Figure 9 4

9 2.8 - Using the Charging Cup 1. Slide the Charging Cup (Figure 10) onto the bottom of the CR Connect the Power Supply into the back on the Charging Cup. This will charge the CR Please refer to the LED Indicator Section (Sections 2.3 and 2.4) of this QuickStart Guide for charging LED status descriptions. To use the CR4100/Charging Cup as a USB Client, slide the white switch located on the back of the Charging Cup to the (C) position (See Figure 11). 2. Connect the communication cable (USB cable supplied) to the Cradle and the host device (PC) Battery Status Indicator The battery status indicator is located in the top right corner of the CR4100 window screen. Figure 11 Battery is empty. Battery is charging. Battery has a full charge Inserting an SD Card 1. At the top of the CR4100, peel back the rubber grommet to expose the SD Slot (Figure 12). 2. Insert the SD Card in the proper orientation. 3. Push the rubber grommet back into the slot. 4. Make certain that the rubber grommet is seated properly, to maintain a seal and ensure the CR4100 s IP65 rating. Figure 12 5

10 Inserting a SIM Card 1. Follow the instructions for Removing the Battery in Section 2.1 of this QuickStart Guide. 2. The SIM card socket is located in the battery compartment (Figure 13). 3. Insert the SIM card into the socket as shown in the diagram on the right of the socket. Click the Windows START icon on the upper left portion of the screen on the CR4100 (Figre 14). 2. Click on Cortex Mobile (Figure 15), you may need to scroll down through the icons to find Cortex Mobile. Cortex Mobile is the bar code reader configuration tool. 3. You will see a pop-up which states Initializing Scanner (Figure 16). Figure After the pop-up disappears, you will see a Data Matrix icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen (Figure 17). 11 6. Click on the Data Matrix icon. 7. A pop-up will appear with the following titles (Figure 18). Click on any of these items to change the configuration settings. Option Symbologies Prefixes/Suffixes Button Setting File Install About Result Window Close Figure Option Settings Click on Option in the list to change the Module and Sound Settings (Figure 18) Module Settings (Figure 19): AIM ID Click to Enable/Disable AIM IDs Ext Illumination Click to Enable/Disable External Illumination. This option should be Enabled. Run at startup Click to Enable/Disable Run at startup. Enter after Read Click to Enable/Disable an enter key to be added after a good read. Default Symbologies Click on this box to reset all symbologies to the Default settings. Read Timeout Select a value for the amount of time (seconds) to try for a good read. Output Click on this option to change the output settings to keyboard. Sound Settings (Figure 19): Default Beep tone on a good read. Figure 19 No Sound There is no tone on a good read. Wav Select a wav file to be played on a good read. Vibrate Click to Enable/Disable a vibration on good read. These characters will appear in the output before the scanned bar code data (Figure 23). Suffix Add up to 256 alphanumeric characters as a suffix in the text field. These characters will appear in the output after the scanned bar code data (Figure 23). Escape Sequences (Special Characters) Escape sequences are prefix/suffix encoding. Type the escape sequence (eg. /n) into the prefix or suffix fields to enable the described action. \n = New line \r = Carriage Return \b = Backspace \t = Vertical Tab \\ = Slash (\) Figure 23 8

13 3.4 - Button Settings Select/Unselect the desired buttons to trigger the bar code reader on the CR4100 (Figure 24). Options are: Front & Right Side Scan Button (default) Left Side Up Left Side Down Navigation Up Navigation Down Navigation Left Navigation Right Figure File Install This is an Advanced Option. Installing an incorrect file could disable the bar code reader in the CR4100 (Figure 25). Firmware Version AppF/W Application Firmware Number BootF/W Boot Firmware Number RadioF/W Radio Firmware Number. Select a file to install on the reader. Select a file by browsing to the file s location. File Install Shows the progress of the file install process. Install Tap this button to install the file. 14 4.0 - Configuring the CR4100 Bar Code Reader - Advanced Please refer to C005435_CR1000_CR8000_ConfigurationGuide.pdf for advanced configuration features Testing the CR4100 Bar Code Reader 1. Click the Windows START icon on the screen of the CR4100 (Figure 14). 2. Click on Cortex Mobile (Figure 15) Cortex Mobile is the bar code reader configuration tool. 3. You will see a pop-up which states Initializing Scanner (Figure 16). 4. After the pop-up disappears, you will see a Data Matrix icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen (Figure 17) Click on the Data Matrix icon. A pop-up will appear. 5. Click on Result Window option. 6. A Scanning Result window will appear (Figure 27). 7. Press the Orange scan button below the logo. Figure Align the blue bar over the bar code. The bar code reader is omnidirectional, so the bar code can be in any orientation to achieve a good read. 9. The bar code data will appear in the result window along with an estimated time to decode the bar code Resetting the CR4100 Using the stylus, press and hold the reset button for 1 second (Figure 28). All running programs will be terminated and any working files or data that is not saved may be lost. Any stored data will NOT be lost. Figure 28 10
