Before connecting, operating or adjusting this product, please read the instructions completely. Please keep this manual for future reference. MULTI-FORMAT PLAYBACK See page 8 for details. Region number The player plays DVD-Video marked with labels containing the region number or ALL. Example: ALL 3 5 Operations in these instructions are described mainly with the main unit, but you can do the operations on the remote control if the remote controls are the same. 2 Caution for AC Mains Lead Caution for AC Mains Lead (For United Kingdom) ( EB area code model only) For your safety, please read the following text carefully. This appliance is supplied with a moulded three pin mains plug for your safety and convenience. A 5-ampere fuse is fitted in this plug. Should the fuse need to be replaced please ensure that the replacement fuse has a rating of 5-ampere and that it is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS36. Check for the ASTA mark Ï or the BSI mark Ì on the body of the fuse. If the plug contains a removable fuse cover you must ensure that it is refitted when the fuse is replaced. If you lose the fuse cover the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained. A replacement fuse cover can be purchased from your local dealer. CAUTION! IF THE FITTED MOULDED PLUG IS UNSUITABLE FOR THE SOCKET OUTLET IN YOUR HOME THEN THE FUSE SHOULD BE REMOVED AND THE PLUG CUT OFF AND DISPOSED OF SAFELY. THERE IS A DANGER OF SEVERE ELECTRICAL SHOCK IF THE CUT OFF PLUG IS INSERTED INTO ANY 3-AMPERE SOCKET. If a new plug is to be fitted please observe the wiring code as stated below. If in any doubt please consult a qualified electrician. IMPORTANT The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Blue: Neutral, Brown: Live. As these colours may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: The wire which is coloured Blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured Black or Blue. The wire which is coloured Brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured Brown or Red. WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT EITHER WIRE TO THE EARTH TERMINAL WHICH IS MARKED WITH THE LETTER E, BY THE EARTH SYMBOL Ó OR COLOURED GREEN OR GREEN/ YELLOW. THIS PLUG IS NOT WATERPROOF KEEP DRY. Before use Remove the connector cover. How to replace the fuse The location of the fuse differ according to the type of AC mains plug (figures A and B). Confirm the AC mains plug fitted and follow the instructions below. Illustrations may differ from actual AC mains plug.. Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver. Figure A Figure B Fuse cover. Precautions for Listening with the Headphones or Earphones Do not play your headphones or earphones at a high volume. Hearing experts advise against continuous extended play. If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce volume or discontinue use. Do not use while operating a motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many areas. You should use extreme caution or temporarily discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations. Even if your headphones or earphones are the open-air type designed to let you hear outside sounds, don t turn up the volume so high that you can t hear what s around you..batteries. Battery pack (Lithium ion battery pack) Use this unit to recharge the battery pack. Do not use the battery pack with equipment other than the specified player. Do not use the player outside if it is snowing or raining. (The battery pack is not waterproof.) Do not get dirt, sand, liquids, or other foreign matter on the terminals. Do not touch the plug terminals (i and j) with metal objects. Do not disassemble, remodel, heat or throw into fire. Do not store the battery pack in temperature over 60 oc.. Button-type battery (Lithium battery) Insert with poles aligned. Do not touch the terminals (i and j) with metal objects. Do not disassemble, remodel, heat or throw into fire. Keep out of reach of children If any electrolyte should come into contact with your hands or clothes, wash it off thoroughly with water. If any electrolyte should come into contact with your eyes, never rub the eyes. Rinse eyes thoroughly with water, and then consult a doctor. 3. Attaching the battery (When the unit is off) An optional battery pack (CGR-H73) is also available. The procedure for attaching and detaching is the same. To conserve power This unit consumes 0.3 W of power even when turned off. When the unit is not going to be used for a long time, disconnect the AC mains lead from the household mains socket. The unit is in the standby condition (the [Í] indicator lights) when the AC mains lead is connected. The primary circuit is always live as long as the AC adaptor is connected to an electrical outlet. [SD\VIDEO] Moving pictures MPEG4 data recorded with the Panasonic SD multi cameras or DVD recorders [conforming to SD VIDEO specifications (ASF standard)/mpeg4 (Simple Profile) video system/g.76 audio system]. You can use SD Memory Cards with the following capacities (from 8 MB to GB). 8 MB, 6 MB, 3 MB, 64 MB, 8 MB, 56 MB, 5 MB, GB, GB (Maximum) Useable memory is slightly less than the card capacity. Please confirm the latest information on the following website. (This site is in English only.) You may not be able to play the following SD Memory Cards on this unit. Cards formatted or recorded on a PC Cards with folder or file names edited on a PC This unit supports SD Memory Cards formatted with equipment conforming to SD File System specifcations Ver..0 such as Panasonic SD multi cameras or DVD recorders (Conforming to FAT standard and FAT 6 standard). We recommend using a Panasonic SD card. Operation is not guaranteed with MultiMediaCard. MOTION JPEG and MPEG are not supported. Some files are not compatible with this unit and cannot be played back. For example: Moving picture files recorded using a digital still camera with moving picture function The recording date may differ from that of the actual date. A minisd TM card adaptor included with the minisd TM card is necessary. It may not be possible to play the above cards in all cases due to the type of cards, the condition of the recording, the recording method and how the files were created. Keep the SD Memory Card out of reach of children. If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately. Cards that can be played 9

10 Playing discs Open the lid. Headphone terminals [Ë] 3.5 mm stereo mini jack OPEN Insert a disc and close the lid. Playing discs Click into place Load double-sided discs so the label for the side you want to play is facing up. DVD-RAM: Remove discs from their cartridges before use. Some discs start to play automatically when the unit is on. 3 Press and hold. ON The unit turns on and play begins. When SD or AUX is displayed, press [AV SELECT] several times until DISC is displayed. (Playing SD cards page / Watching video from other equipment page 3) 4 AV SELECT Adjust the volume. VOL When using headphones, turn down the volume before connection. To play [JPEG], [MP3], [MPEG4] or [DivX] on DVD-RAM that contain both [DVD-VR] and another format (e.g. [JPEG]), select Play as Data Disc ( page 5, Other Menu). While stopped, the unit automatically turns off once 5 minutes (after approximately 5 minutes when using the battery pack) have elapsed. Discs continue to rotate while menus are displayed. Press [, OFF] when you finish to preserve the unit s motor. Total title number may not be displayed properly on ir/irw. If you are experiencing problems, refer to troubleshooting guide ( page 34). Main unit operations ON Turn unit on/play When the unit is off: Press and hold and the power comes on and play begins. When the unit is on: Press and play begins. Pause Press [, ON] to restart play. The position is memorized when Press PLAY to resume play appears on the screen. 0 OFF Stop Turn unit off Press [, ON] to resume. (Resume play) Opening the disc lid, or pressing [, OFF] while Press PLAY to resume play appears on the screen cancels the memorized position. Press and hold until OFF is displayed.

12 Playing SD cards Do not remove the card or turn off the unit while the card is being read from ( Card Reading is on the display) or the unit is using the card. This can corrupt your data. You can use SD Memory Cards with capacities from 8 MB to GB ( page 9). When you insert a SD card while the unit is on, Playback starts automatically. Diagram of inserted card If you are using a minisd TM card, insert it into the minisd TM card adaptor that comes with the card. Insert and remove this adaptor from the unit. 3 Close the cover. ADAPTER AV SELECT ON To change content TOP MENU Press to display SD Card Menu. VOLUME TOP MENU SD Indicator Press and hold until the power comes on. Play begins automatically When AUX or DISC is displayed, press [AV SELECT] several times until SD is displayed. (SD Indicator lights while SD is selected. To turn the illumination off page 4, Adjusting the picture quality on the LCD.) [SD\VIDEO] Adjust the volume. When playing a SD card that contains both Picture and Video content, Picture content will be played first. SD Card Menu Picture Video to select and press Press [3 4] to select Picture or Video and press []. Play begins. While stopped, the unit automatically turns off once 5 minutes (after approximately 5 minutes when using the battery pack) have elapsed. If you are experiencing problems, refer to troubleshooting guide ( page 34). Remove the card Open the cover. Press on the center of the card. OPEN Press. 3 Pull it straight out.

13 Main unit operations ON Turn unit on Press and hold and the power comes on and play begins automatically. Pause Press [, ON] to restart play. OFF The position is memorized when the message appears on the screen. Press [, ON] to resume.
