With this compact MP3 player you can enjoy your favourite music in MP3 or WMA format. To ensure this product operates correctly, we advise you to carefully read this manual first. If despite this manual you still experience problems during installation or operation of this product, go to and look under the heading service & support. In order to fully enjoy the Sweex MP3 player for many years, it is important you observe a number of things: Do not put the MP3 player in direct sunlight or in the direct vicinity of radiators. Avoid ambient temperatures exceeding 39 C. Remember that the temperature in a locked car exposed to the sun can easily reach 50 C or more. Do not use the MP3 player in extremely dusty or moist surroundings. Protect the device against powerful shocks or jolts - they may damage the internal electronics. Never attempt to open the device yourself - it will cause the warranty to lapse. Contents of the box Prior to using the MP3 player, check if all required parts are present. 3 Fitting the battery The Sweex MP3 player uses a 1.5 volt AAA battery. Follow these instructions to fit the battery: remove the USB cover and slide the battery cover on the back of the MP3 player downwards. Fit the battery and slide the battery cover back in its slot. Replace the USB cover. Control buttons The Sweex MP3 player has various control buttons which will be explained below. Volume control Play/Pause button EQ/MODE mode A-B/REC mode HOLD button Connecting the MP3 player to the computer The Sweex MP3 player includes a USB 2.0 connection. This means that the MP3 player can be directly connected if you have Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The Sweex MP3 player will be recognised as an additional disc drive. Within Windows, MP3 or WMA files can be easily copied to or removed from the player. In order to use it with Windows 98SE, you must first install the driver software provided. The installation of the Windows 98SE driver is explained at the end of this manual. As soon as the MP3 player is connected and recognised by the computer, the text USB will appear in the display of the MP3 player. This indicates that the MP3 player is ready for use. The computer will show an additional drive letter. The drive letter allocated to the Sweex MP3 player may deviate from the picture above. 4 SWEEX.COM

4 Switching the MP3 player on and off Press the Play/Pause button for 2 seconds in order to switch on the Sweex MP3 player. The text HELLO will appear in the display. After 2 seconds, the main menu appears detailing information on, among other things, the number of tracks, the equalizer setting, the battery status and the playtime of the selected track. To switch off the MP3 player, you must press the Play/Pause button for 2 seconds. The text OFF will appear in the display. Playing music As soon as the MP3 player is switched on, briefly press the Play button in order to start playing. Browsing between the different tracks is possible by means of the EQ/MODE button NOTE: this button has a dual function. Pressing the button to the left or right enables browsing through the different tracks. By briefly pressing the button whilst playing, you can switch between the five different equalizer settings (Normal, Pop, Jazz, Rock, Classic). By pressing the EQ/MODE button slightly longer, you can switch between the various play modes: Play back in normal order Play back only one track Play back all numbers in random order Whilst playing the volume can be adjusted by means of the Volume + and - button. Battery status indicator The Sweex MP3 player uses a single 1.5 volt AAA battery. As soon as battery capacity becomes too low, the battery icon in the display will start to blink. Locking Buttons To prevent accidental activation of a button whilst playing, all buttons can be locked by means of the HOLD switch. Slide the switch to the right to lock the buttons. The HOLD symbol appears in the top right corner of the display. Slide the switch to the left to unlock again. 5

A-B/REC button Various functions can be activated by means of the A-B/REC button. The A-B function can be used to select a fragment of a track and play it repeatedly.

Follow this procedure to select a certain fragment. Whilst in play mode, press the A-B button to select the beginning of the fragment. Press the A-B button once more to select the end of the fragment. Subsequently, the selected fragment will be played back repeatedly. Press the A- B button once more to cancel the repeated playing of the selected fragment. It is also possible to record speech with the Sweex MP3 player. The Sweex MP3 player features a built-in microphone to record sound. Follow this procedure to start a sound recording. Ensure that no MP3 or WMA file is played back. Now press the A-B button for 2 seconds and then release it. The text VOI. will appear in the display. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to play back previously recorded speech recordings. Briefly press the A-B/REC button to switch to the recording function. The text REC will appear in the display and the recording time is shown. Briefly press the PLAY/PAUSE button to stop the recording; the device immediately switches to play mode. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button for 2 seconds to switch off the MP3 player and to leave the recording mode. When switching the MP3 player on again the MP3 mode will be selected. Windows 98SE Driver installation Important! Prior to connecting the MP player to the computer, install the software under Windows 98SE first. Insert the CD supplied in the CD-ROM player. Select to install the Windows 98SE driver and follow the on-screen instructions. 6 SWEEX.COM

6 In order to activate any changes made, the computer must be restarted. Once the computer has been restarted, the Sweex MP3 player can be connected and will be recognised as a separate drive under Windows 98SE. Warranty All articles that are carried under the name Sweex have a 3-year term of guarantee. Only the Sweex Digital photo and video cameras have a 2- year term of guarantee. We do not provide support or warranty for the supplied software or (rechargeable) batteries. Settlement of guarantee only takes place via the dealer where you have purchased the product in question. 7
