2 Audio Gateway Codecs CENTAURI With the CENTAURI Audio Gateway Codec, MAYAH has established a new standard for audio transmission As the Audio Codec s natural successor, CENTAURI defines a completely new class of product the Audio Gateway Codec with real Internet, Intranet, LAN and WAN networking capabilities. The concept of Audio Gateways introduces quality and operability as well as design flexibility for a new dimension in audio communication. And that s not all: CENTAURI offers analog audio with 96 khz 24 Bit A/D and D/A as well as digital audio, in compliance with AES3, with up to 96 khz sampling rate and 24 bit resolution. Coding algorithms such as G.711, G.722, L2, L3, MPEG 2/4 AAC, apt-x, Enhanced apt-x, CT-aacPlus, mp3pro and linear audio together with networking via ISDN, X.21, E1 and Ethernet, all further serve to illustrate CENTAURI s uniqueness. Algorithms CENTAURI supports most well known codec algorithms and is compatible with the majority of the world's audio codecs. The communication protocols include several standards as well as proprietary implementations. The algorithm selections for send and receive are completely independent of one another. All algorithms can also be run in dual mode (again with different send/receive settings). This flexibility makes if feasible to have two completely independent, simultaneous connections e.g.: Connection kbit/s Layer 2 send, G.722 receive Connection kbit/s Layer 2 send, 128 kbit/s AAC receive. 4 Connecting Worlds and even more CENTAURI J.52+ combines, for the first time, established proprietary algorithms with the J.52 standard All CENTAURI Gateways support the unique MAYAH < FlashCast technology featuring fully automatic recognition of the remote audio codec, regardless of whether there is a CCS CDQPRIMA, RoadRunner, CDQ1000, CDQ2001, Telos Zephyr, Dialog4 MusicTaxi, Slimline, Acamas, Pronto, AETA or AEQ at the other end of the line. As long as they use their known proprietary audio codec formats for ISDN 1 and 2 B-channel connections and function, many seconds can pass until a stable synchronization has been obtained. However, MAYAH s FlashCast technology recognizes the audio codec and connects almost as quickly as a hardware codec of the same type. The FlashCast family also includes Flashman, EditPro and SendIt a range of portable products complementary to CENTAURI. CENTAURI knows the active algorithm and inverse multiplexing, it will be able to send and receive mono and/or stereo audio with no additional manual setup. Even more exciting is the short synchronization time needed for such automatic recognition of remote hardware audio codecs. It is generally accepted that for even a very small automatic

6 Multilingual and user-friendly CENTAURI All CENTAURI models are designed to meet the needs of various users. The unique user interface features only the most important status indicators, such as ALARM, OVERLOAD, CONNECT, FRAMED and POWER. The control buttons are designed and manufactured using a new technology which gives the push buttons a precise feeling for the pressure threshold. Menu navigation with the four centered buttons is as easy as Internet surfing and, in combination with the large 128 x 64 Pixel LCD backlit display, the best overview of all important information. The CENTAURI models 2001/3001 feature headphone outputs with control of source and level. Optimum Control Center System The CENTAURI 2000 & 3000 models are designed for remote control while the 2001 & 3001 models can be easily controlled manually. CENTAURI 2000 & 3000 avoid all buttons and controls to be the most economic solution. CENTAURI 2001 & 3001 s optimum center control system, in combination with the 3x4 alphanumeric button field, is the main navigation area. Communications flexible and easy All CENTAURI models provide numerous connectivity possibilities. The typical 2000/1 models offer 1 or 2 ISDN interfaces and X.21 while the 3000/1 models can be equipped with up to 4 ISDN BRIs as well as digital audio I/O for greater flexibility. But at the center of it all is audio and this received great attention during development and production. 24 Bit A/D and D/A, and 96kHz sampling rates support the most up-to-date standards and provide today s best possible audio, whilst being ready for the future. ADAT is a significant move towards the production studio market which uses this interface for many applications. Further data transmissions are supported over the ancillary data interface which is a real highspeed, data gateway. 4 additional TTL in- and outputs enable communication with remote equipment for control and monitoring. CENTAURI s remote control software supports all current Microsoft Windows versions. Via RS232 (daisy chaining) it controls all CENTAURI s features, including remote machines. RS232

7 family CT-aacPlus the best for the best The success of MPEG 1 and 2 audio is confirmed by its extensive use in professional and consumer applications and products. Now, as the potential reference model in MPEG 4, CT-aacPlus has shown unique and overwhelming audio quality which supports the assumption that CT-aacPlus will become the next successful audio coding algorithm. The quality figures show that, overall, AAC performs 50% better than MP2 (Layer 2). CT-aacPlus improves coding efficiency even more by an additional 30%. CT-aacPlus is therefore very economical and can lower transmission and storage costs by as much as 65% compared with Layer 2.
