Generl Description The Remoterig RRC-25MkII (RRC) is developed especilly for remote control of Amteur rdio sttions vi the Internet in user-friendly nd cost-effective wy. The RRC units re used in pirs, one is connected to the rdio (Rdio-RRC) nd the other is connected to the control equipment (Control-RRC). The system is unique in the wy tht no PC is needed for the voice nd dt communiction it s hndled by the two RRC. There re two versions vilble RRC25MkII nd RRC25MkIIs, the difference is tht the (s) versions hndles two udio chnnels from the rdio which is useful together with dul receiver equipment. The Remoterig system cn be configured to work together with most Amteur rdio sttions vilble on the mrket from ICOM, Kenwood, Yesu, Elecrft, Alinco nd Tentec. The Remoterig system fits very well in the following situtions: You re not llowed to put up ntenns t your home. The noise level is too high to mke Amteur rdio ctivity possible. You wnt to build so big ntenns tht cn t be done in urbn res. You do not wnt to be dependent of PC:s for the remote control. Etc. The Remoterig system itself will not introduce ny ltency nd the ltencies introduced by Internet nd buffering will rrely be ny noticeble problem. The Remoterig system lso includes unique solution for operting CW over Internet nd it lso includes CW-keyer. The Remoterig system is connected to the Internet primrily vi 0 or 00 Mbit Ethernet nd fixed connections like DSL, cble nd WLAN. 3G bsed mobile solutions will lso work but sometimes with reduced performnce. The system is portble nd you cn use it from lmost ny network connection in the world. Session control, udio (VoIP) nd dt is trnsferred using stndrdized protocols like SIP, RTP etc. where you cn select different udio qulities depending on vilble bndwidth. The RRC-25MkII is esily configured vi modern USB nd WEB bsed user interfces. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 of 229

Detchble control pnel You will get the ultimte function of the Remoterig system together with rdio sttions with detchble control pnels like Kenwood TS-40, Kenwood TM-D70, Kenwood TS-2000, Yesu FT-57, ICOM IC-700, IC-703, ICOM IC-70, IC-220 nd Alinco DX-SR. You simply replce the cble between the control pnel nd the rdio with the Remoterig system. You will get the sme feeling nd functionlity s with the originl setup. TWIN The twin solution for Elecrft K3 nd Yesus is the high end solution for the DX-er or contester who do not wnt to compromise in the selection of rdio. The Twin solution is bsed on the ide tht one locl rdio controls the remote rdio nd you get the feeling tht you hve the rdio t your control site. For the Elecrft K3-Twin solution there is lso specil K3 clled K3/0 vilble which is specilly designed to use s control s it hs no RF-prts. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 9 of 229

PC-bsed control The system lso works very well for more trditionl remote control from PC-bsed control softwre s like HmRdioDeLuxe. The Remoterig system solves the voice nd dt trnsmission but you need PC for the Control softwre itself in this setup. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 0 of 229

Step by step system setup Below follows recommendtion bout how to proceed when setting up the system.. Spend some time to red thru this user mnul to get fmilir with the product. 2. Apply 2V DC (good stbilized power) to both units. 3. Connect both units with CAT5 ptch cbles to the sme Ethernet switch or router s your PC which you will use to setup the system is connected. 4. Downlod the Microbit Setup Mnger nd the ltest firmwre from to your PC. Follow the instructions bout how to instll the Microbit Setup Mnger (see chpter Configurtion with Microbit Setup Mnger). 5. Find out how your network is configured nd configure the RRC to fit into your network (see chpter Initil IP Setup) with the Microbit Setup Mnger. This hs to be done with both units.. Check the instlled firmwre version. If the one you downloded from Remoterig is newer, updte the units with the new firmwre. Alwys updte both units to the sme version (see chpter FW/HW bout how to updte). 7. When you hve configured the units to fit into your network, Strt your Web browser nd connect to the units one by one by entering their resp. IP-ddress. If you get in contct with their internl web server everything is OK.. Disconnect ll cbles from the units nd open the housings (see chpter Strppings nd jumpers) nd mke the hrdwre strpping ccording to the instruction which is provided in the chpter for your rdio in the end of this Users mnul. Check the red jumpers with ohm meter to verify tht they re not broken before ssembling the housings gin. 9. Mke the bsic softwre configurtion for your system which is described in the chpter for your rdio in the end of this Users mnul. 0. Prepre the cbles needed for your rdio sttion nd/or PC ccording to the cble drwings provided in the chpter for your rdio in the end of this Users mnul. Double check your home mde cbles with n ohm meter before connecting them to the RRC nd the rdio to prevent hrm of ny equipment. Microbit do not tke ny responsibility of dmged RRC-units or rdio equipment.. After prepring the cbles connect them to the RRC-units nd the rdio equipment. Connect the power to ll equipment. Check with your web browser gin tht you re in contct with both RRC-units. 2. Now try to estblish the connection between the Control-RRC nd the Rdio-RRC. If you use rdio with detched control pnel it s done when you press the ordinry power on button. If you re using PC-t the control end you need to browse to the sttus pge in the Control-RRC nd connect by clicking on the Connect button on. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 of 229

3. When the connection is estblished, test the functionlity. Check tht you cn her the receiver udio, check tht PTT is working nd microphone level is OK to be sure tht the strppings re OK. 4. When this bsic functionlity re OK you cn go further connecting cbles for CW, rotor control, PA-control etc. Prepre ll functions tht you need nd test them before moving the RRC:s prt to different loctions, everything gets much more complicted to test when trvelling is needed. 5. When it s time to move the RRC:s prt you need to gther some informtion bout how the network t the remote site is configured. The first thing is to determine if your Internet Service Provider (ISP) re providing you with fixed or dynmic IP-ddress. Fixed IP:s re rre so you probbly hve dynmic IP-ddress if you re not pying extr for fixed one. A dynmic IP is no problem but you need to use dynmic DNS service. You cn use Remoterigs free dynmic DNS service or DynDNS ccount. New DynDNS ccount is no longer free. For detiled informtion bout Dynmic DNS services see the Dynmic DNS chpters under Configurtion with WEB-Interfce.. After moving the RRC-prt you need to connect PC to the locl network t the remote site where the Rdio-RRC should be connected nd find out how the network is configured (see chpter Initil IP Setup). You hve to set up the new IP, Netmsk nd Gtewy. When it s done use your web browser to connect to the Rdio-RRC:s internl web server nd configure the DNS IP. 7. Configure the Rdio-RRC:s Dynmic DNS settings (see chpter Dynmic DNS Setting).. Now it s time to configure your remote router. We recommend tht you first of enble the remote configuring of your router, you my need it lter. After tht s done configure DMZ or port forwrding (see chpter Network nd Firewlls). When this is done your remote Rdio-RRC should be rechble over the Internet. 9. When bck t the Control QTH try to browse to the Dynmic DNS ddress (Own host nme) you hve setup t the Rdio-RRC. You should get in contct with the Rdio-RRC internl web server exctly s it ws locl. 20. The only setting which need to be chnged in the Control-RRC is the SIP-contct t the Rdio settings pge. The SIP-contct should be chnged to the Dynmic DNS Own host nme you hve setup in the Rdio-RRC or to the fixed IP of the Rdio QTH if you hve one. Then everything should work remotely. Enjoy the remote controlling. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 2 of 229

Strpping nd jumpers Before connecting the RRC to your rdio you need to put some strps in plce depending on your rdio. Down below follows instructions of how to disssembly the RRC nd pictures showing where to find the different strps. : Strt with removing the screws holding the D-sub on the rer mrked COM2. The tool should be 5 mm (3/"). 2: Open the box by pressing the D-sub until you cn get your fingers behind the edge of the lid nd cn slide the housing prt. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 2 of 229

3: Behind the AUX/MIC connector there is strpping re which looks like n IC-socket. There re two rows with 9 holes. The row next to the AUX/MIC connector is connected to the connector. The strpping is done by connecting the red strp wires, supplied with the RRC, between the holes ccording to the description for the rdio (see rdio chpter). Normlly the sme strpping should be done in both Control-RRC nd Rdio-RRC. (The picture shows the strpping for IC-70). Attention! The strpping wires should NOT be soldered. Just push them into the socket. The mechnicl friction is enough to get connection. Socket Pin : Control-RRC only: JMP- is plced behind the TTL connector. With the strp in plce DC voltge is feed to the microphone element. All ICOM microphones should be DC-feed. Dynmic microphones like the ones used by Kenwood should not be DC-feed. HEIL microphones should not be DC-feed either. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 22 of 229

5: Control-RRC only: JMP-2 is plced ner the bck of the RRC next to the RESET button. JMP-2 is used to select if the DC-power to the front pnels should be or 9 V. With the strp in plce it will be V, which fits ll ICOM rdios. Without the strp the voltge will be 9V, which fits Kenwood TS-40 nd RC-2000 pnels tht need 9V for the bck-lighter. : JMP-3 is plced next to the rer D-sub COM2. JMP-3 is used to connect RTS nd CTS together (pin 7 nd ) in COM2. Most of the Yesu nd Kenwood rdios with RS-232 port need to hve them tied together. This is convenient if you wnt to use prefbricted fully connected cble. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 23 of 229

7: Control-RRC Only: JMP-4 is plced behind the CW-pot, nd is vilble only in the Control- RRC nd re only present in the RRC-25MkIIs up to Hrdwre version 5. JMP-4 is used to select between Speker level or Hedset level for the Min-Rx output. The Sub-Rx is lwys Hedset level. From hrdwre version it s lwys speker level from both RX. : JMP-5 is plced behind the TLL connector nd is only present in the RRC-25MkIIs from hrdwre version 7. JMP-5 is used to decide if pin in the TTL connector should be grounded or not. It should be grounded (in plce) for ll Rdios but Yesu FT-57 nd ICOM ID-E-0 User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 24 of 229

Dynmic DNS setting (only Rdio-RRC) The Rdio-RRC hs Dynmic DNS client to be used when the Internet Service Provider (ISP) uses dynmic IP ddresses (DHCP) insted of fixed IP ddress. DHCP is the most common for privte users. The RRC supports our own free Remoterig dynmic DNS service nd DynDNS which is not free for new users nymore. You cn choose to use one of them. The dvntge with using dynmic DNS service is tht you do not need to know the IP ddress to your remote router, you only need to remember the own host nme. The Rdio-RRC will utomticlly updte the DNS server when the IP chnges so you don t need to bother bout it. Remoterig dynmic dns service The Remoterig dynmic dns service only support equipment from Remoterig nd Microbit like the RRC-25 nd the WebSwitch 2H etc. The Remoterig dynmic dns service do not need ny registrtion it s utomticlly generted bsed on the seril number on the equipment. To ctivte the Remoterig dynmic dns client select ddns.remoterig.com from the drop down on the Dynmic DNS settings pge. Also select DNS check intervl, if your IP ddress chnge often you cn select low vlue, if it goes month between the chnges you cn select higher vlue. After tht click on Submit nd Apply chnges, the RRC will restrt. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 0 of 229

After the RRC hs restrted go bck to the Dynmic DNS settings pge. You will now see tht the settings Own hostnme, Usernme nd Pssword re utomticlly generted. The only importnt informtion is the Own hostnme, copy the whole row, this is the informtion you should put into the SIP contct box in the Control-RRC nd the web ddress you should use when remote configure the Rdio-RRC in the future. No more registrtion is needed. Remember tht DNS ddress like this is only for use when you connect over the internet, s long s you re operting on you own LAN use the IP ddress. When using ddns it s importnt tht the DNS settings re ok s they re needed for the RRC to be ble to updte the ddns. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 of 229

When you hve done the setup nd restrted the RRC, it will updte the Remoterig DDNS. You cn check the sttus of the updte t Enter the hostnme from your RRC in this exmple = hfd3dqw. If your RRC hs updted the DDNS you will see when nd wht current public IP the RRC hs reported. If it s not updted check the RRC-sttus pge nd check the DNS nd DDNS sttus. User mnul Rev. 80 WiFi Generl The RRC-25 cn be equipped with WiFi Interfce. A WiFi interfce is convenient when you wnt to connect the RRC:s to WiFi network. You do not need ny extr cbles or boxes. For the Control-RRC the min reson to use WiFi might be the portbility, nd for the Rdio-RRC to physiclly seprte the RRC from the telephone/dsl line which is the most common route for lightning storms to hit the RRC nd the Rdio. The WiFi Interfce is mounted on the pin heder P3 in the RRC-box. Units produced from the summer 202 hs P3 in plce from production. Units produced erlier do not hve P3 in plce you hve to solder to put it in plce, Instruction for how this is done cn be found on the Remoterig website under Support/Mods (hrdwre). User mnul Rev. 87 CW-Keyer Generl The RRC-25 hs CW-keyer function tht mkes CW opertion possible over Internet even if there re long ltencies nd lots of jitter. Note tht the CW-keyer is by defult disbled. The CW-keyer side-tone is generted loclly t the control RRC. When the dot or dsh is executed the udio from the rdio cn be muted t the Control-RRC to disble the rdio sidetone or nnoying clicks nd sounds. The time the mute function is ctive is defined by the lfdely setting. The vlue of lf-dely depends on the ltency of Internet. A good strt vlue is the sme vlue s the ping time between control nd rdio QTH. Another unique feture is kind of djustble jitter buffer t the rdio end. If the Internet connection hs vrying ltencies, you cn set key-dely before the keying of the rdio is executed. This dely mkes it possible to reconstruct the trnsmission on-the-fly nd the system will be much more tolernt ginst vrying ltencies (jitter). Longer key-delys give higher tolernce ginst jitter but lso dd dely until the keying is executed t the rdio. Even if you hve good connection you could try with low vlue. Remember tht when you increse this vlue you must lso increse the lf-dely vlue. When you press the power button on the pnel the rdio comes to life t the remote side nd sound nd pnel info flows cross the Internet between the pir of RRC-25MkII:s. The look nd feel of the pnel is the sme s if the pnel ws directly connected to the rdio. Hrdwre configurtion User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 04 of 229

YAESU FT-57 Generl The Remoterig system supports the populr Yesu FT-57. The technicl solution is the sme s for ll the other rigs like IC-70 nd TS-40 etc with detchble control pnel. You cn remote control the rdio over Internet from the control pnel without ny PC. We simply replce the cble between the control pnel nd the rdio with two RRC-25 units, one t the control pnel nd one t the rdio. Hrdwre configurtion The FT-57 is fully supported by the Remoterig RRC-25MkIIs from hrdwre version 7. Erlier version of the RRC:s cn lso be used but then some hrdwre chnges or specil cbling re needed, See t the website under Support nd Mods. If you hve set of RRC:s hrdwre 7 or lter you only need to mke cbles. The cbles re lso vilble from the web shop. Attention! The FT-57 cn enter stte where it s bsolutely unrechble until you remove the 3.V Power source. Reset of the RRC doesn t help, even fysicl disconnect of the RRC doesn t help. This hppens rrely but if you hve the rdio on QTH where you hve no one who cn switch off the power supply you must instll remote controlled switched so you cn switch off the 3,V power to the rdio. For exmple Webswitch 2H, or GSM Switch, If you do no use ll outputs on the RRC-25 you cn use one of the outputs to control rely which cn switch off the 3.V power to the Rdio. Also be wre of tht the FT-57 lmost mkes short circuit to the 3.V power for short moment when it s powered ON. If you hve the Rdio-RRC connected to the sme Power Supply it cn cuse the RRC do reset. 218 Networks nd Firewlls One of the mjor obstcles when trying to remotely control something is the fct tht the Internet Service Provider (ISP) forces us to use dynmic IP ddresses. We cn never know, from time to time, which IP ddress our modem / firewll / router hs on its outside interfce (the IP ddress you will try to connect to). Most people use NAT routers tht trnsltes IP ddresses on the inside (your little LAN) to one common IP ddress on the outside using port conversion. To be ble to strem udio nd t the sme time trnsfer CAT / CI-V commnds or pnel-tordio communictions' we need to know which IP port numbers re used for ech service. There re some different techniques to fix this. At the opertor end (Control-RRC) there is normlly OK just to use DHCP for the own IPsettings. For the Sip contct prmeter you enter the public fixed IP ddress or Dynmic DNS-nme to the router t the rdio site. At the rdio end (Rdio-RRC) the router must be configured so tht port 3000, 300, 3002 nd 0 (defult settings) re directed to the Rdio-RRC which should hve sttic IP ddress. The esy wy to get connected is to set the RRC IP ddress s DMZ server in the router. This mkes it possible to connect to ll services (SIP, udio nd control) s well s the web nd telnet interfces without further configurtion. If you run web server t the rdio site you need to chnge the webserver port from 0 to something else, for exmple 000. Port 0 cn lso be blocked by the ISP. If you re using port forwrding you hve to configure the router in wy tht every service forwrds pckets to the right host on the inside. When setting up the router check tht there is No SIP ALG ctivted. You will lso need to register the Rdio-RRC to Dynmic DNS Service so you cn use host nme to connect to the Rdio-RRC regrdless of its dynmic IP ddress (which cn chnge without notice, but rrely does). The following defult IP ports re used (chngeble) port number Protocol function 3000 UDP SIP (chnge this port number in both ends if you re using SIP bsed IP-telephony) 300 UDP RTP, udio 3002 UDP DATA chnnel, control commnds 0 TCP WEB interfce 23 TCP Telnet Interfce In erlier firmwres, other defult ports where used (eg 2000,000,500,0,23) User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 2 of 229

DMZ A typicl setup screen for ctivting DMZ is shown below. Enter the IP-number of the Rdio-RRC in box nd enble DMZ. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 29 of 229

Portforwrding A typicl setup screen for ctivting port forwrding is shown below. There is one row ssigned for ech port (service) ll refereeing to the IP of the Rdio-RRC User mnul Rev. A Feb of 229

SIP ALG If the router hs prmeter clled SIP ALG it should lwys be Disbled in both the Control nd rdio end. User mnul Rev. A Feb 7 22 of 229

Mobile Network Routers The Remoterig system cn be used with mobile networks routers lso. They re often clled 3G or 4G/LTE routers. They re configured in the sme wy s norml router. Before you order your 3G or 4G subscription check with the opertor tht they llow inbound connections from outside Internet, some opertors do not, nd you need tht if you will hve mobile router t the rdio site. Be wre of tht 3G (not 4G/LTE) connection often dd ltency up to ms even if the bndwidth is high enough. This cn mke CW difficult but is seldom problem for voice communiction. With 3G we don t recommend using mobile connection in both ends, with 4G/LTE it s possible. User mnul Rev. A Feb of 229

Appendix A - Audio coding Qulity or 2 is recommended for short wve listening, they re good compromises between qulity nd need for bndwidth. Prcticl test hve shown tht qulity 0 (G7) is not the optiml coding if the signl to noise rtio is low which is common on the shortwve bnds. Qulity gives very good udio qulity even if you listen to music on FM. khz smple rte nd bits deep gives very good dynmic rnge nd lrge SNR nd good udio bndwidth. Qulity nd 2 cn be used when very limit bndwidth is vilble, the udio qulity is reduced. The other qulities re more of cdemic interest. A good speker is lwys good investment lso. Note Different codings cn be used in the uplink nd downlink, which cn be useful in symmetricl Internet links like ADSL nd most mobile systems. Smple rte must be sme in both ends but coding cn be different. Audio qulity Coding Smple rte [khz] Bndwidth dul-rx=0 [kbps] Pcket size dul-rx=0 [ms] Bndwidth dul-rx= [kbps] 0 A-lw (G7) Liner-2bits Liner-bits A-lw (G7) Liner-2bits , 5 Liner-bits ,3 A-lw (G7) Liner-2bits ,3 Liner-bits A-lw (G7) ,3 0 Liner-2bits , 720,9 Liner-bits ,3 90,7 2 IMA ADPCM 4bits IMA ADPCM 4bits Pcket size dul-rx= [ms] User mnul Rev. 224 Appendix B - COM-port Keyer interfce There re lots of different solutions on the Internet, but this is very simple nd cn be implemented in the D-sub housing. No vlues re criticl; just use wht you hve in the junk box. User mnul Rev. A Feb of 229
