3 1. Focus of this manual This manual describes the connection of a Sailmon instrument system to Nexus FDX system. Sailmon instruments can then be used for displaying all Nexus data and/or using the Nexus system as provider for sensor data. This means, as soon as connected to a Nexus system, you have the choice of: Displaying NEXUS data on Sailmon instruments Use the NEXUS system for providing sensor values, but performing all the calibrations and calculations with the Sailmon system Both modes can be mixed. It is possible, for instance, that you display both the NEXUS wind angle and the Sailmon true wind angle. Sending data from Sailmon to NEXUS instruments, like NXR instruments is currently not supported. Contact Sailmon support for such applications. A very powerful configuration can be achieved when you connect tactical software to the Nexus system over Wifi with the SBox. In this case, you have both full access to the Nexus network with your tactical software, as well as direct access to all the Nexus data with Sailmon. Also Nexus custom channels are supported! 5 Open your Sailmon Tool PC software to select the SBox Port1 mode to be Nexus FDX: Note that it is not possible to connect the Sailmon SBox to Nexus FDX and B&G Fastnet concurrently. AS SOON YOUR CONNECTION TO THE NEXUS SERVER IS OK, THE BLUE LED OF PORT1 WILL LIGHT UP Nexus Wakeup: The Nexus server has to be switched to FDX mode after startup. The Sailmon SBox will perform this task automatically as soon as a connection to the Nexus server is discovered! No manual wakeup is necessary. Also, it is of no importance if the SBox is powered on before or after the Nexus server. Sailmon to Nexus interconnect Manual V1.0 Page 5

3. Using Expedition tactical software with Sailmon & Nexus If you use Expedition tactical software, you will have direct wireless access to the Nexus server. (Receive and send).

6 3. Using Expedition tactical software with Sailmon & Nexus If you use Expedition tactical software, you will have direct wireless access to the Nexus server. (Receive and send). This means, you can use the Sailmon SBox as a wireless connection to your tactical software! Only the SBox is needed to provide this interface, no MM104 monitor is necessary. Therefore, you can also use the SBox as a very powerful stand alone Nexus wireless interface. PC Pairing To pair your laptop to the Sailmon network you need a computer with a Wi Fi interface which is b/g compatible. Most modern laptops will have such an interface included. Depending on your operating system the following screens might be different. First, go to "Start Menu" > "Control Panel" > "Network and Internet". Go to "Network and Sharing Center" and select "Connect to a network", like it is shown in the screenshot above. Select sailmon xxxxx as from you SBox W Fi type label. Do not forget to check Save this network and Start this connection automatically.

There might be problems when more than one network is connected at a time.

TACTICAL SOFTWARE SETUP Your tactical software has to be set up to access the Sailmon SBox.

There might be problems when more than one network is connected at a time. Avoid connecting to other networks while working with the Sailmon system if you experience troubles. TACTICAL SOFTWARE SETUP Your tactical software has to be set up to access the Sailmon SBox. EXPEDITION TACTICAL SOFTWARE Expedition provides a network interface to read and write dataa over Ethernet. Open Expedition, presss the button with the sail boat on the top left corner and select Instruments and Number of network connections. Depending on your other setup, select at least 1. 10 You can freely choose the data to be sent to the custom channels. Note that the custom channels can also be displayed on the Sailmon MM104 instruments! SEATRACK TACTICAL SOFTWARE SeaTrack do not provide a direct network interface. Therefore you must install an Ethernet to serial converter driver on your PC.
