9 Get Started The fllwing tpics give yu all the infrmatin yu need t set up yur tablet the first time. Yur Tablet at a Glance The fllwing illustratin utlines yur tablet s primary external features and buttns. Set Up Yur Tablet Prir t using yur new tablet, it is necessary t charge the battery. An ptinal micrsd memry card (nt included) can als be installed at this time. SIM Card Infrmatin Yur tablet cmes with a preinstalled SIM card fr service with yur Sprint accunt. If there is a need t uninstall r reinstall the SIM card, fllw the instructins belw. Imprtant: Only perfrm SIM card maintenance if instructed t d s by a Sprint representative. The preinstalled SIM card is required fr Sprint service. Use the fllwing prcedure t a SIM card in yur tablet. 1. Open the SIM card slt cver and turn t expse the slt. 2. With the gld cntacts facing dwn, carefully slide the SIM card int the slt, pushing gently until it clicks int place. Get Started 1

10 3. Replace the SIM card slt cver. Imprtant: Yu can easily damage the SIM card and card slt by imprper peratin. Please be careful when inserting, remving, r handling it. D nt ver-insert the card as this can damage the cntact pins. Install a Memry Card Use the fllwing prcedure t install an ptinal memry card (nt included) in yur tablet. Fr mre infrmatin, see Strage Settings. 1. Open the micrsd card slt cver and turn t expse the slt. 2. With the gld cntacts facing dwn, carefully slide the memry card int the slt, pushing gently until it clicks int place. 3. D nt ver-insert the card as this can damage the cntact pins. Charge the Battery Yu will need t charge the battery befre using yur tablet. 1. Plug the USB cable int the USB Charger/Accessry Prt n the bttm f the tablet. Get Started 2

11 2. Plug the USB cable int the charging head, and then plug the charging head int an electrical utlet. Turn Yur Tablet On Use the Pwer/Lck Key t turn yur tablet n. Press and hld the Pwer/Lck key t turn the tablet n. If yur tablet is activated, it will turn n, search fr Sprint service, and begin the setup applicatin. If yur tablet is nt yet activated, see Activate Yur Tablet fr mre infrmatin. Activate Yur Tablet Fllw the instructins belw t activate yur tablet if it has nt already been activated. Depending n yur accunt r hw and where yu purchased yur tablet, it may be ready t use r yu may need t activate it n yur Sprint accunt. If yu purchased yur tablet at a Sprint Stre, it is prbably activated and ready t use. If yu received yur tablet in the mail and it is fr a new Sprint accunt r a new line f service, it is designed t activate autmatically. When yu turn the tablet n fr the first time, yu shuld see a Hands Free Activatin screen, which may be fllwed by a PRL Update screen and a Firmware Update screen. Fllw the instructins t cntinue. If yu received yur tablet in the mail and yu are activating a new tablet fr an existing number n yur accunt, yu can activate n yur cmputer nline r directly n yur tablet. Activate n yur cmputer: G t sprint.cm/activate and cmplete the nline instructins t activate yur tablet. Activate n yur tablet: Turn n yur new tablet. Yur tablet will autmatically attempt Hands Free Activatin. Tap Activate t verride aut-activatin and start the manual activatin wizard. Fllw the prmpts t cmplete the activatin prcess. Get Started 3

12 If yur tablet is still nt activated, visit sprint.cm/supprt fr assistance. If yu d nt have access t the Internet, call Sprint Custmer Service at Tip: D nt press the Pwer/Lck key while the tablet is being activated. Pressing the Pwer/Lck key cancels the activatin prcess. Nte: If yu are having any difficulty with activatin, visit sprint.cm/supprt. Cmplete the Setup After yu turn n yur tablet and activate it, yur tablet displays a welcme screen. Frm the welcme screen fllw the prmpts t set up features and preferences n yur tablet. Nte: In sme cases, yu may be able t cmplete the setup prcess befre yur device has been activated n yur Sprint accunt. During setup and activatin, yu may see Sprint Cnnectins Optimizer ntice. Read the ntice and tap I agree t use Sprint Cnnectins Optimizer, r tap Settings and uncheck the ptin if yu d nt wish t use the Sprint Cnnectins Optimizer. 1. At the Welcme screen, fllw the instructins t cnfigure yur tablet s basic ptins, such as language, date and time, Wi-Fi cnnectins, lcatin settings, etc. Ggle Accunt: Many f yur tablet s applicatins, such as Gmail, Ggle Maps, Ggle Talk, and the Ggle Play stre, require a Ggle Accunt. T use these applicatins, yu must set up yur Ggle Accunt n yur tablet. Cmplete the steps t sign in t yur current Ggle Accunt, r sign up fr a new Ggle Accunt. Samsung Accunt: Yur Samsung Accunt is used fr access t Samsung apps and services, such as Samsung Hub, Samsung Apps, Samsung Link, and much mre. Cmplete the steps t sign in t yur current Samsung Accunt, r sign up fr a new Samsung Accunt. 2. Tap Finish t cmplete setup. Get Started 4

13 Tablet Basics Yur tablet is packed with features that simplify yur life and expand yur ability t stay cnnected t the peple and infrmatin that are imprtant t yu. The fllwing tpics will intrduce the basic functins and features f yur tablet. Yur Tablet s Layut The fllwing illustratin utlines yur tablet s basic layut. Key Functins The fllwing list defines the features listed in the abve illustratins. Frnt camera allws yu t take pictures and vides f yurself. Micrphne recrds vice and ther sunds. Pwer/Lck key lets yu turn the device n r ff, turn the screen n r ff, r lck the screen. Press and hld fr a Device ptins menu, where yu can turn the tablet ff r restart it, r fr easy access t Airplane mde, and t Mute and Sund mdes. Vlume key adjusts the vlume f yur tablet s sunds. Frm the hme screen, press t adjust master vlume. Back key lets yu return t the previus screen, r clse a dialg bx, ptins menu, the ntificatin panel, r keybard. Hme key returns yu t the hme screen. Press and hld t see recent apps, and access Task Manager and Ggle Nw. Recent Apps key displays apps yu have. Tablet Basics 5

14 3.5 mm Headset Jack allws yu t plug in an ptinal headset. Rear camera lets yu take pictures and recrd vides. Speaker plays ntificatin tnes and sunds. SIM card slt stres the tablet s preinstalled SIM card. CAUTION: Inserting an accessry int the incrrect jack may damage the tablet. Turn Yur Tablet On and Off The instructins belw explain hw t turn yur tablet n and ff. Turn Yur Tablet n Press and hld the Pwer/Lck key. Turn Yur Tablet ff 1. Press and hld the Pwer/Lck key t pen the Device ptins menu. 2. Tap Pwer ff t turn the tablet ff. Yur screen remains blank while yur tablet is ff (unless the battery is charging). Turn Yur Screen On and Off Yur tablet allws yu t quickly turn the screen ff when nt in use and t turn it back n and unlck it when yu need it. Turn the Screen Off When Nt in Use T quickly turn the screen ff, press the Pwer/Lck key. T save battery pwer, the tablet autmatically turns ff the screen after a certain perid f time when yu leave it idle. Yu will still be able t receive messages while the tablet s screen is ff. Nte: Fr infrmatin n hw t adjust the time befre the screen turns ff, see Screen Timeut. Turn the Screen On and Unlck It 1. T turn the screen n, press the Pwer/Lck key. 2. Swipe the screen in any directin t unlck the screen. Tablet Basics 6

Tuchscreen Navigatin Yur tablet s tuchscreen lets yu cntrl actins thrugh a variety f gestures. Tap When yu want t type using the keybard, select items such as applicatin and settings icns, r press buttns, simply tap them with yur finger. Tablet Basics 7

17 Swipe r Slide T swipe r slide means t quickly drag yur finger vertically r hrizntally acrss the screen. Tablet Basics 9

18 Drag T drag, tuch and hld yur finger with sme pressure befre yu start t mve yur finger. While dragging, d nt release yur finger until yu have reached the target psitin. Tablet Basics 10

19 Flick Flicking the screen is similar t swiping, except that yu need t swipe yur finger in light, quick strkes. This finger gesture is always in a vertical directin, such as when flicking the cntacts r message list. Tablet Basics 11

20 Rtate Fr mst screens, yu can autmatically change the screen rientatin frm prtrait t landscape by turning the tablet sideways. When entering text, yu can turn the tablet sideways t bring up a bigger keybard. Nte: Screen rtatin needs t be enabled fr the screen rientatin t autmatically change. Tuch and drag dwn the ntificatin panel, and then tap Screen rtatin. Tablet Basics 12

21 Pinch and Spread Pinch the screen using yur thumb and frefinger t zm ut, r spread the screen t zm in when viewing a picture r a Web page. (Mve fingers inward t zm ut and utward t zm in.) Tip: Pinching any hme screen will let yu see thumbnails f all hme screens. Tap a thumbnail t g straight t anther hme screen. Yur Hme Screen The hme screen is the starting pint fr yur tablet s applicatins, functins, and menus. Yu can custmize yur hme screen by adding applicatin icns, shrtcuts, flders, widgets, and mre. Yur hme screen extends beynd the initial screen. Swipe the screen left r right t display additinal screens. Nte: Yu can keep swiping in ne directin and make it back t the main hme screen. The small circles tward the bttm f the screen let yu knw yur current screen psitin. Tip: Press the Hme key t return t the main hme screen frm any ther screen. Create Shrtcuts Learn hw t add, mve, r remve items frm the hme screen. Tablet Basics 13

22 Add Shrtcuts frm Apps 1. Frm hme, tap Apps. 2. Tuch and hld an applicatin icn, and then drag it t a hme screen. 3. Release the icn t lck it int its new psitin n the hme screen. Remve a Shrtcut 1. Press the Hme key t display the hme screen. 2. Tuch and hld the desired shrtcut, and then drag it t the Delete icn and release it. Nte: This actin des nt delete the applicatin; it simply remves the shrtcut frm the hme screen. Add and Remve Widgets Widgets are self-cntained applicatins that reside either in yur Widgets tab r n the main r extended hme screens. Unlike a shrtcut, the Widget wrks like applicatin n a hme screen. Widgets can include Cntacts shrtcuts, bkmarks, music playlists, Gmail and accunts, and many ther types f apps. Add Widgets frm the Hme Screen 1. Frm hme, tuch and hld an empty area f the hme screen, and then tap Widgets. 2. Tuch and hld a widget, and then drag it t a hme screen. Release the widget t lck it n the screen. Remve a Widget Frm hme, tuch and hld the desired widget, and then drag it t the Delete icn. Nte: This actin des nt delete the widget; it simply remves it frm the current screen. Extended Hme Screens In additin t the main hme screen, yur tablet can have up t six extended hme screens t prvide mre space fr adding icns, widgets, and mre. Tuch and hld the icn r widget and then drag acrss the screen t mve frm the main screen t an extended screen. T g directly t a particular screen: 1. Frm any hme screen, pinch the screen t display thumbnail images f all screens. 2. Tap the screen yu want t pen. Tablet Basics 14

23 Recent Apps Yu can access recently used applicatins thrugh a display f shrtcuts t the applicatins themselves. 1. Tap frm any screen t display recently used apps. 2. Tap a preview t pen the applicatin. Wallpapers Yu can chse a picture t display n the hme screen, hme screen, r n bth the hme and lck screens. Chse frm preladed wallpaper images r select a pht yu have dwnladed r taken with the camera. 1. Frm any hme screen, tuch and hld n an empty area f the screen, and then tap Wallpapers. 2. Tap Hme screen, Lck screen, r Hme and lck screen. 3. Select a wallpaper, and then tap Set as wallpaper. 4. The wallpaper is set. Status Bar The status bar at the tp f the hme screen prvides device and service status infrmatin n the right side and ntificatin alerts n the left. T view ntificatin alerts, tuch and hld the status bar and drag it dwn. Status Icns Icn Bluetth: Bluetth is active. Descriptin Bluetth Cnnected: The tablet is cnnected t anther Bluetth device. Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is active. Mute: All sunds are muted. Netwrk: The tablet has full signal strength. 3G data service: The tablet is cnnected t a 3G data netwrk. 4G LTE data service. The tablet is cnnected t a 4G LTE data netwrk. Airplane mde: Airplane mde is active. Alarm set: An alarm is clse t sunding. Full battery: The battery is fully charged. Tablet Basics 15

Display Multi Windw The Multi windw tray nrmally autmatically hides itself with nt in use. Swipe frm the right side f the screen t display the Multi windw Apps tray. Using Multi Windw After enabling Multi windw, yu can use it t run tw apps at the same time. Yu can launch apps frm Multi windw, r drag an app t the screen t run multiple apps at the same time. The apps display tgether n a split screen. Yu can switch between the apps, adjust the size f their display n the screen. Yu can als use these Multi windw ptins: Launch multiple apps: When yu drag an app frm Multi windw n tp f an pen app, bth apps display in a split windw. While using ne app, tap the tab t display Multi windw, and then tuch and drag an app t the screen. Adjust the size f apps in multi windw: While using Multi windw, yu can adjust the size f the tw apps n the screen. Tuch and drag t a new psitin. Switch multi windw app psitins: While using Multi windw, yu can switch the psitin f the app windws n the screen. Tap >. Drag cntent frm ne app t the ther: In selected apps, yu can yu can drag text r images between apps. Tap > t select cntent and drag it t the ther app. Make a multi windw app full-screen: Expand ne f the apps t display in the full screen. With Multi windw turned n (see Enable Multi Windw), swipe frm the right side f the screen t display the Multi windw apps tray. 2. In the apps tray, yu can use these ptins: T change the rder f apps in the tray, tuch and hld an app until it detaches, and then drag it t a new lcatin in the apps tray. 33 Cntacts The Cntacts applicatin lets yu stre and manage cntacts frm a variety f surces, including cntacts yu enter and save directly in yur tablet as well as cntacts synchrnized with yur Ggle Accunt, yur PC, cmpatible prgrams (including Exchange Server), and yur Facebk friends. Get Started with Cntacts Befre using Cntacts, it is best t learn a few basics. Yur tablet autmatically srts the Cntacts entries alphabetically. Cntacts can be stred in device memry. Yu can als create cntacts that sync with an accunt such as a Ggle cntact r a Crprate (Micrsft Exchange ActiveSync) cntact. When yu create a new cntact, yu will be asked where yu want t stre the cntact. Sme ptins are: Device cntacts are stred in device memry. Ggle cntacts are shared with yur existing Ggle Accunt and can als be imprted t yur tablet after yu have created a Ggle Mail accunt. Samsung accunt cntacts are synchrnized between yur tablet and yur Samsung accunt, if yu have a Samsung accunt set up n yur tablet. Micrsft Exchange ActiveSync cntacts are shared with a Micrsft Exchange accunt. Access Cntacts Frm hme, tap Apps > Cntacts. Add a Cntact Yu can add cntacts directly int the Cntacts applicatin. Enter details such as name, tablet numbers, addresses, mailing addresses, and mre. 1. Frm hme, tap Apps > Cntacts. 2. Tap, and then chse a strage accunt, if yu have multiple accunts set up n yur tablet. 3. Tap cntact fields t enter infrmatin. While entering infrmatin, tap t add anther field, and tap t chse a label. Setting up yur accunt n yur tablet syncs yur tablet and yur nline Ggle Accunt. Create a Ggle Accunt If yu d nt already have a Ggle Accunt, yu can create ne using yur tablet. Nte: Althugh yu need a Gmail accunt t use certain features f yur tablet, such as Ggle Play stre, yu d nt need t use Gmail as the default accunt fr yur tablet. 1. Frm hme, tap Apps > Settings > General tab > Accunts. 2. Tap Add accunt > Ggle > Or create a new accunt. 3. Fllw the prmpts t create yur free accunt. T access the Ggle Play stre yu must have a Ggle Accunt set up n yur tablet. Imprtant: Third-party applicatins may access yur persnal infrmatin r require yur service prvider t disclse yur custmer infrmatin t the third-party applicatin prvider. T find ut hw a third-party applicatin will cllect, access, use, r disclse yur persnal infrmatin, check the applicatin prvider s plicies, which can usually be fund n their website. If yu aren t cmfrtable with the third-party applicatin s plicies, dn t use the applicatin. Find and Install an App When yu install apps frm the Ggle Play stre app and use them n yur tablet, they may require access t yur persnal infrmatin (such as yur lcatin, cntact data, and mre) r access t certain functins r settings f yur tablet. When yu use data services, yur user name is submitted t identify yu t the Natinwide Sprint Netwrk. Yur user name is autmatically prgrammed int yur tablet. Yu dn t have t enter it. Update Yur User Name If yu chse t change yur user name and select a new ne nline, r make any changes t yur services, yu must then update the prfile n yur tablet. 1. Enter the passwrd and tap Cnnect. Yu can tap the Shw passwrd ptin t display the passwrd as yu enter it. Manually Add a New Wi-Fi Cnnectin 1. Frm hme, tap Apps > Settings > Cnnectins tab > Wi-Fi. 2. Tap the ON/OFF switch t turn Wi-Fi n. 3. Tap Add Wi-Fi netwrk. Yu may need t swipe t the bttm f the netwrks list t find the ptin. 4. Tap the Enter SSID field t enter the Netwrk SSID. Wi-Fi Direct Wi-Fi Direct allws devices t cnnect t each ther directly via Wi-Fi, withut a Wi-Fi netwrk r htspt, and withut having t set up the cnnectin. Fr example, yur tablet can use Wi-Fi Direct t share phts, cntacts and ther cntent with ther Wi-Fi Direct devices. 1. Frm hme, tap Apps > Settings > Cnnectins tab > Wi-Fi. 2. Tap the ON/OFF switch t turn Wi-Fi n. Wi-Fi must be n t cnfigure Wi-Fi Direct settings. 3. Tap > Wi-Fi Direct. Yur tablet autmatically scans fr nearby Wi-Fi Direct devices, r yu can tap Scan t begin a new scan. 4. After scanning fr devices, select a device, and then fllw the prmpts t cmplete the cnnectin. Bluetth Bluetth is a shrt-range cmmunicatins technlgy that allws yu t cnnect wirelessly t a number f Bluetth devices, such as headsets and hands-free car kits, and Bluetth-enabled handhelds, cmputers, printers, and wireless devices. The Bluetth cmmunicatin range is usually apprximately 30 feet. Nte: Fr infrmatin abut cnfiguring Bluetth settings, see Bluetth Settings. Turn Bluetth On r Off The fllwing prcedures will guide yu thrugh turning n and turning ff Bluetth. 1. Frm hme, tap Apps > Settings > Cnnectins tab > Bluetth. 2. Pair with a Bluetth Device Pairing initiates a cnnectin between yur tablet and the target device, usually by using a passcde r PIN. Yur tablet will start t scan fr Bluetth devices within range. 5. When yu see the name f the target device displayed in the Bluetth devices sectin, tap the name. Yur tablet then autmatically tries t pair with the target device. If autmatic pairing fails, enter the passcde supplied with the target device. The pairing and cnnectin status is displayed belw the target device in the Bluetth devices sectin. When yu are cmmunicating with the target device, the status bar. (Bluetth cnnected) displays in Nte: Due t different specificatins and features f ther Bluetth-cmpatible devices, display and peratins may be different, and functins such as transfer r exchange may nt be pssible with all Bluetth-cmpatible devices. Recnnect t a Bluetth Device When yu have paired yur tablet with anther device, yu shuld be able t recnnect it autmatically by turning n Bluetth n yur tablet. 1. Frm hme, tap Apps > Settings > Cnnectins tab > Bluetth. 2. Tap the ON/OFF slider t turn Bluetth n. 3. Make sure that the target device is discverable. 4. Tap the target device s name in the Bluetth devices sectin. 5. If prmpted t enter a passcde, try 0000 r 1234, r cnsult the target device s dcumentatin t find the passcde. If yu still cannt recnnect, fllw the instructins in Discnnect r Unpair frm a Bluetth Device, and then fllw the instructins in Pair with a Bluetth Device. The first time yu transfer infrmatin between yur tablet and anther device, yu need t enter r cnfirm a security passcde. After that, yur tablet and the ther device are paired, and yu will nt need t exchange passcdes t transfer infrmatin in the future. Yu can send the fllwing types f infrmatin, depending n the device yu are sending t: Images and vides Calendar events Cntacts Audi files The lcatin where the infrmatin is saved depends n the type f infrmatin and the receiving device. 1. Set the receiving device t discverable mde. Yu may als need t set it t Receive Beams r Receive Files. Refer t the device s dcumentatin fr instructins n receiving infrmatin ver Bluetth. 2. On yur tablet, pen the applicatin that cntains the infrmatin r file yu want t send. 3. Fllw the steps fr the type f item yu want t send: Phts and vides (in Gallery). On the Albums tab, tap an album, tap an item, and then tap Share via > Bluetth. Calendar event: In the Calendar s Day view, Agenda view, r Week view, tap the event and then tap Menu > Share via > Bluetth. Music track: This feature is available thrugh the Music Player. Virtual Private Netwrks (VPN) Frm yur tablet, yu can add, set up, and manage virtual private netwrks (VPNs) that allw yu t cnnect and access resurces inside a secured lcal netwrk, such as yur crprate netwrk. Prepare Yur Tablet fr VPN Cnnectin Depending n the type f VPN, yu may be required t enter yur lgin credentials r install security certificates befre yu can cnnect t yur cmpany s lcal netwrk. Yu can get this infrmatin frm yur netwrk administratr. T cnnect t a VPN, yu must have Mbile data enabled, r yur tablet must be cnnected t a Wi- Fi netwrk. Set a Screen Lck Befre setting up a VPN, yu must set a screen lck t prevent access t yur tablet by unauthrized users. Open the memry card slt cver and turn t expse the slt. 2. With the gld cntacts facing dwn, carefully slide the memry card int the slt, pushing gently until it clicks int place. 3.
