3 1 vividwireless USB modem Follow these simple steps to get yourself online using wireless broadband. Colour Status Reason Getting to know your USB MODEM Your USB modem is the device that plugs into a USB slot on your computer. It has a small indicator light that tells you what is happening with your Internet connection. The light will show a different colour or it will blink, depending on what stage it s at. Here s a quick guide: Blue Solid The USB modem is connected to the Internet Blue Blinking Data is being transmitted Yellow Blinking The USB modem is connecting to the Internet Yellow Solid The USB modem is disconnected from the Internet, or the USB modem is in idle mode

4 2 Installation GUIDE Connecting the USB MODEM to your computer Caution: Your PC or laptop needs to be powered on before you plug in the USB modem. Installing the Connection Manager software A Turn on your PC or laptop. B Connect the USB modem to your PC or laptop by plugging it into a spare USB slot. For a PC these are usually located in the back of your tower; for a laptop they re generally in the left and right hand sides. Here a picture to demonstrate: C Your computer s operating system tells you that new hardware has been found and asks you if you want to install the vividwireless software. D You will then see the vividwireless Set up Wizard E Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program. F Once the connection manager is installed, you ll see the vividwireless shortcut icon on your desktop. G Now open your web browser. You will be taken to a page automatically that will guide you through to activating and setting up your service with vividwireless. H Once you activate your account you will be online and ready to use the Internet.

5 3 safely Removing the USB modem The Safely remove hardware symbol should be displayed in the task tray (bottom right-hand corner on your computer screen): A Double-click on the symbol in the task tray. Your operating system will tell you to Safely remove hardware. B Select the USB modem and then click Stop. C Remove the USB modem from your computer. Connecting to or disconnecting from the network Connecting A Start by double-clicking the vividwireless shortcut icon on your desktop. Then click Connection. B Click Connect from the options shown. The USB modem will start to connect to the network look for an yellow light on your device that is blinking. Signal strength When the connection is made, the icons along with your signal strength, are displayed at the bottom of the connection manager window. Disconnecting When you re not using the Internet you can manually disconnect the USB modem from the network. A Start by double-clicking the vividwireless shortcut icon on your desktop. Then click Connection. B Click Disconnect from the options shown. The USB modem will disconnect from the Internet. A yellow light will appear on your USB modem when you re disconnected. Note: After you ve disconnected you ll need to reconnect the USB modem before you can access the Internet again.

6 4 Troubleshooting In case things don t go according to plan, here s how to correct some simple hiccups. A You ve connected your USB modem to your computer for the first time but the system doesn t ask you to install the management program. Try one or more of these options: Ensure that the auto play function of the OS is enabled. When you first plug in your USB modem there can be a delay of a few minutes while the system prepares for the installation of the program. You may need to give it some time. Make sure the USB modem is connected properly to your computer. If you re unsure, try disconnecting the USB modem and reconnecting it again to your PC or laptop. Check to see if the vividwireless disk icon is displayed in the My Computer window. i. If it is displayed, double-click the icon; or access the drive directly and double-click Setup.exe. ii. If it s not displayed, remove the USB modem from your computer and restart the computer. Reconnect the USB modem to your PC or laptop. You might have an older version of the management software so log on to the website vividwireless.com.au/support to download the installation program, then install it on your computer. B The USB modem can t access the Internet. Try one or more of these options: Make sure you are in the service area for your vividwireless coverage by checking the vividwireless.com.au/ coverage website (using an alternate Internet connection). Check that the USB modem is properly connected to your PC or laptop and that the management program is installed correctly. Make sure you are correctly subscribed to vividwireless and that you have an active account. Try moving your laptop and USB modem closer to a window. C The management program doesn t automatically start after the installation. Try one or more of these options: Check to see if the shortcut icon for the program is displayed on your

7 5 computer s desktop. If it is, doubleclick it to execute the program. Make sure the USB modem is correctly connected to your PC or laptop as follows: i. Uninstall the management program. ii. Disconnect the USB modem from the computer then reconnect it. iii. Re-install the management program by following the on-screen instructions. Safely remove the USB modem and restart your computer.
