4 T-HUB 2 UPGRADE OVERVIEW I ts time to upgrade your T-Hub 2. You ll notice the improvements and benefits immediately: - Improved interactive performance within applications (feels quicker, browser pages load faster) - Improvements to key application such as the Browser, Contacts, and Calendar - Introduces new features that support applications such as MOG music streaming and BigPond Movies - Brand new screens will appear across the majority of all applications and home pages - Ability to switch between multiple applications (multi-tasking) Figure 1. T-Hub 2 Home page Not only will the upgrade introduce improvements, but it will ensure that the T-Hub 2 is better placed to take advantage of new applications designed for the larger screen. 4

5 BEFORE UPGRADING Before you start upgrading your T-Hub 2, it is important that you are aware of a few simple measures you can take to save your personal information. The majority of all your settings, user data such as photos and preloaded applications will not be deleted as part of the upgrade. However, the following applications/settings will not be kept: 3rd party widgets/shortcuts you have installed will be deleted from the T-Hub 2 Home pages. They can be re-loaded after the device has been upgraded. Personalised settings of third party applications you may have installed may not be retained. This is dependent on the application. The ringtone settings for incoming and internal calls are not retained. Telephone 1 and Telephone 2 will become the default settings respectively after the upgrade. Screensaver timeout settings may not be maintained. If the screen saver setting you previously had cannot be assigned to the new set of timeouts, the screensaver timeout will be set at 30 minutes by default. Wallpapers will be set to the new default. You will be required to manually update the wallpaper after the upgrade. As part of the upgrade process the TuneIn Radio and Browser applications will be replaced, which also means that any historical data, favourites or bookmarks related to these applications will be automatically deleted. However, there are steps that you can take prior to upgrading your T-Hub 2 to backup this information. Browser the browser is being replaced by the standard Chrome browser. History, cookies and bookmarks information will be deleted. To save the bookmarks, you can install a 3rd party application, e.g. Bookmarks I/O, from the Google Play Store. This will save your bookmarks to the T-Hub 2 and make them available again to the Chrome browser after the upgrade. For step by step instructions on how to backup your bookmarks using the Bookmarks I/O refer to the Google Play Store or alternatively refer to the T-Hub 2 Upgrade FAQs. Handy Hint: If your default browser on your computer is Chrome, upon logging into the new Chrome browser on your T-Hub 2 after the upgrade, the favourites saved on your PC will be downloaded to your T-Hub 2. TuneIn Radio The TuneIn Radio application enables you to save your Favourites to an online account. If you have not done so, set up a TuneIn account by selecting the Menu icon and select Accounts. Your favourites will be available online and available to import back onto the T-Hub 2 after you upgrade your T-Hub 2 and log into the TuneIn Radio application. For more information on how to save your favourites, refer to the T-Hub 2 Upgrade FAQs. 5

6 UPGRADE PROCESS Ensure that you have backed up your browser bookmarks and TuneIn Radio favourites before proceeding with the upgrade process if you wish to keep them, as these will be deleted during the upgrade process. To begin the upgrade process, from the T-Hub 2 Tablet home page, select: Settings ->About phone -> Telstra firmware and select Check update. The tablet will indicate if there is an update available. Upon accepting to download the update, the tablet will start downloading the software. If there are a number of tablets downloading the update simultaneously, you may be advised that the current software on your tablet is up to date and that an update is unavailable. You can try to download the update again at a later time Handy Hint: As the download is quite large (approximately 200MB), make sure that you are near your Wi-Fi modem/router. It will take a few minutes to download the update and will not count towards your usage. 6

7 AFTER THE UPDATE As with previous updates, once the update is downloaded, the tablet will turn off for about a minute and then automatically turn on again. Unlike previous updates, you will be required to step through the Installation Wizard to confirm your details. This will take between 5 to 10 minutes. INSTALLATION WIZARD You will notice a few changes immediately after the upgrade: 1. The menu bar on the right hand side of the tablet is also displayed as icons in the bottom of the Tablet screens notification bar. 2. This was common practice to get around the issue when there was no more space to download applications into the Phone memory. However, with the upgrade to the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, you can optimise the memory on the tablet such that the 1GB of space allocated to media and other files can also be used to save games and applications. This will give you access to 1.3GB of memory to download applications, save photos and store music on. This capability is not automatically setup on the tablet as you are required to perform a device reset to combine the Phone and Internal SD Card memory. To learn more about the steps on how to optimise the memory management on the tablet refer to the T-Hub 2 Upgrade FAQ s. 33
