Dell PwerVault MD3200 and MD3220 RAID arrays prvide 6Gb/s SAS (SAS 2.0) perfrmance capability and increased flexibility and scalability t the PwerVault array family. These arrays will cnnect t supprted PwerEdge servers using the 6Gb SAS HBA. 2

When lking at Dell s prtfli f external RAID strage prducts, the MD3200 series is psitined belw the MD3200i series because f its lack f netwrk cnnectivity and 5

8 the limited number f hsts supprted by the prducts. Because the MD3200 and MD3200i series f prducts share a cmmn cntrller architecture, bth prducts have similar features and functins with the main difference being the number f servers that can cnnect t the systems and the thrughput perfrmance differences resulting frm the different hst cnnectin technlgies. When psitined against Dell s enclsure prtfli, the MD3200 series f prducts is psitined abve the JBOD fferings because f its ability t ffer true high availability with n single pint f failure and be shared acrss a greater number f servers. The MD3200 series f prducts is a PwerEdge-centric strage slutin that shares cmmn hard disk drives with the servers and capacity expansin via the MD1200 and MD1220 drive enclsures. 14 Cnnecting Hsts and Enclsures Dell PwerVault MD3200 and MD3220 arrays standardize n the 6Gb/s (SAS 2.0) Mini-SAS cable (SFF 8088). The Mini-SAS cable is unique frm the SAS cable used with the previus generatin Dell PwerVault MD3000. Mini-SAS Cable Transitin Cnnectrs n bth ends f the SAS cable are universally keyed. Either end f the cable can be cnnected t the 6Gb SAS HBA, MD32X0 array r MD1200/MD1220 expansin enclsures. T remve the SAS cable, pull the pull-tab t release the cable frm the SAS cnnectr. Prduct Supprt Hst Bus Adapter (HBA) The PwerVault MD3200 and MD3220 require the 6Gb SAS HBA fr server cnnectivity. The 3Gb SAS 5/E HBA is nt supprt with the MD3200 and MD3220 RAID arrays. 12
