2 Testing DAB Receivers Using ETI The IZT S1000 Multi-chnnel Signl Genertor is powerful test source to generte DAB test signls from the ETI (Ensemble Trnsport Interfce) [1] or EDI/ETI formt. In ddition, the IZT DAB ContentServer cn be used to generte ETI files to be modulted by the IZT S1000. The possibility to directly link the multiplexer output of the IZT DAB ContentServer with the IZT S1000 provides verstile lbortory setup to test DAB receivers in rel-time. This ppliction note describes how to use the IZT S1000 in combintion with the IZT DAB ContentServer to generte signls for DAB receiver testing. Technicl Bckground The ETI formt hs been designed s n interfce between DAB ensemble multiplexers nd the trnsmitter network. ETI strems cn be recorded to file nd be used for detiled nlysis of DAB ensembles s well s input of test modultors for receiver development. Using Encpsultion of DAB Interfces (EDI) [2], the ETI formt cn be distributed over IP networks using UDP (User Dtgrm Protocol) streming in multicst or unicst. Files in the ETI(NI) formt hve been estblished for exchnging DAB strems. For exmple, the formt is used by the World DAB ETI Librry [3]. Fetures IZT S1000 The IZT S1000 modultes DAB signls from ETI or EDI. The DAB modultor option S , pplies offline COFDM modultion. The resulting files cn be either loded to the internl memory or stremed from the externl Memory Extension. The DAB rel-time modultor S cn use ETI or EDI files directly s input nd cn be configured multiple times in different VSGs. The DAB reltime modultor is cpble of full ETI reconfigurtions. The live EDI input option S b provides n interfce for receiving live EDI/ ETI strems from DAB Multiplexer, e.g. the IZT DAB ContentServer. IZT DAB ContentServer The IZT DAB ContentServer cn be used to generte ETI files or EDI/ETI strems. A web interfce provides convenient ccess to configure of service components nd multiplex. To enble the full feture set of the DAB stndrds, the IZT DAB ContentServer Developer Edition provides complete functionlity including ll stndrdized nd brodcsterspecific dt services, reconfigurtions nd signlling options. The IZT DAB ContentServer Embedded Edition llows bsic testing of DAB receivers nd is exclusively vilble to be combined with the IZT S1000. figure 1: Web interfce of the IZT DAB ContentServer

These cn be files recorded t the IZT DAB ContentServer, files extrcted from on-ir recordings with the IZT receivers or other sources such s the World DAB ETI Librry. generting eti files The IZT DAB ContentServer llows recording the multiplexer output. This functionlity cn be conveniently ccessed using the web interfce. The multiplexer output is stored s n ETI(NI) file. To perform recording from the web interfce, go to Brodcst Informtion / record output of Multiplex Genertor. Figure 2 shows the recording interfce which llows setting the durtion of the recording nd the possibility to downlod the recorded ETI(NI) file. Additionlly, the ETI Anlyzer llows converting the recorded file into EDI/ETI or other formts (Figure 3). The ETI Anlyzer is ccessible through the web interfce nd is included in the Developer Edition of the IZT DAB ContentServer. Further, the ETI Anlyzer is powerful tool not only to nlyze the complete DAB ensemble but lso to extrct pre-encoded udio or dt subchnnels. 4 Testing DAB Receivers Using ETI Offline Modultion from ETI Files The option S DAB Wveform includes DAB Modultor which llows generting DAB IQ files from ny ETI File formt offline. The wveform is comptible to DAB, DAB nd DMB. The IQ files cn be loded to the IZT S1000 RAM or stremed from the S1000 Memory Extension hrddisk vi LAN. Rel-time Modultion The DAB rel-time modultor cn use ETI files directly s input nd cn be configured multiple times in different VSGs (Virtul Signl Genertors of the S1000). figure 5: Setting up DAB ContentServer network settings including NTP The rel-time DAB modultor is cpble of dynmic reconfigurtions, which is essentil to support the full test rnge of the DAB stndrd. The powerful impirment fetures of the S1000 (including multipth fding nd time vrint profiles) cn be pplied to the rel-time DAB modultor. Rel-time EDI streming The IZT S1000 cn modulte DAB signls directly from incoming EDI/ETI strems received from the IZT DAB ContentServer in rel-time vi UDP t the S1000 Memory Extension or Memory Extension. In combintion with the IZT DAB ContentServer, verstile lbortory setup cn be chieved. The DAB rel-time modultor option IZT S nd live EDI input option IZT S b enble direct link between the IZT DAB ContentServer nd the IZT S1000 with the EDI/ETI protocol. 5 4 5 setup nd synchroniztion Figure 6 shows typicl setup of the IZT DAB ContentServer, IZT S1000 nd Memory Extension(). The setup hs to be synchronized. PPS or 10 Mhz need to be provided to the IZT S1000, while Memory Extension() nd DAB ContentServer re synchronized using NTP (Network Time Protocol). All synchroniztion sources re derived from the sme device. NTP synchroniztion cn be configured t the system dministrtion dilog of the DAB ContentServer (Figure 5). It hs to be mde sure tht the network settings correspond to those of the setup, e.g. network nd netmsk include the IP ddresses of the S1000. The IZT Memory Extension nd IZT S1000 use configurtion file for the NTP client nd server functionlity. The necessry tools for NTP re redily instlled in current relese nd running. To use the NTP Server (time server, Internet NTP, etc.) the configurtion file needs to be dpted to the required needs (Figure 7). figure 7: SETTING UP SyNChroNIZATIoN SoUrCES of ThE IZT S1000 The importnt Configurtion Prmeters re: 10 Mhz reference: externl PPs sync source: externl The 10 Mhz is received from the Timeserver/ GPS t the externl 10 Mhz input. When it is received, the red ext will chnge to the color white ext. This indictes tht the level nd qulity of the 10 Mhz signl is sufficient. The multiplexer output cn be configured through the ContentServer s web interfce. In the min menu, select Brodcst Configurtion / Multiplexer output. As shown in Figure 8, configure n output trget with IP ddress nd port of the corresponding S1000. Mke sure tht EDI/DCP, no dt protection (plin AF lyer, no PFT) is selected in the field DCP Prmeters (expert prmeter). It is possible to crete multiple output Trgets which cn simultneously ddress different vsgs, seprte IZT S1000 or dditionl trgets (e.g. PC running figure 9: SETTING UP ThE IZT S1000 For DAB MoDULATIoN

In the shown exmple, there re two output sections for different trget IPs (in this cse two seperte IZT S1000). As shown in Figure 9 the center frequency of the rf output needs to be configured in the IZT GUI first. When the center frequency is configured, the Formt, DAB Mode, DAB Comb nd DAB Pttern cn be configured (Figure 10). In the Network settings of the individul vsg, the receiving port of the DAB ContentServer is configured (here 50001). In the lst step, the Source is configured to Network. When the EDI Streming is running nd DAB Modultion is ctivted, the Time prmeter shows the time since the Signl genertion hs strted. The IZT DAB ContentServer is the perfect choice to crete DAB Ensembles in vrious configurtions, providing n EDI/ETI output strem nd the possibility to record ETI files.
