The HP22 perates with a regular 9V alkaline battery and is available with a wide assrtment f HygrClip 2 humidity-temperature prbes t meet almst any requirement. The HygrClip 2 prbes feature well prven, durable sensrs. Digital signal prcessing ensures cnsistent prduct perfrmance and als facilitates the task f field maintenance with features such as ptentimeter free digital calibratin.. Depending n the prbe mdel, the HP22 can measure cnditins within the range f 0 t 100 %RH and -100 t 200 C (-148 t 392 F). The temperature perating range f the HP22 electrnics is limited t C. Based n the ROTRONIC AirChip 3000 digital technlgy the HP22 indicatr and HygrClip 2 prbes ffer the fllwing user functins: User cnfigurable settings Calculatin f psychrmetric parameters such as the dew r frst pint HOLD functin Humidity temperature calibratin and adjustment Simulatr mde Autmatic humidity sensr test and drift cmpensatin Sensr failure mde Data recrding The ability fr the user t easily update bth the HP22 and HygrClip 2 prbe firmware means that the indicatr and prbes can be kept up-t-date regarding any future functinality imprvement. 2 General descriptin 2.1 Pwer supply The HP22 perates with a regular 9V alkaline battery 2.2 Measured parameters The prbes used with the HP22 measure relative humidity with a ROTRONIC Hygrmer IN1 capacitive sensr and temperature with a Pt100 RTD. 2.3 Calculated parameters Using the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware, the HP22 can be cnfigured by the user t calculate ne f the fllwing parameters: Dew pint (Dp) abve and belw freezing Frst pint (Fp) belw freezing and dew pint abve freezing Wet bulb temperature (Tw) Enthalpy (H) Vapr cncentratin (Dv) Specific humidity (Q) Mixing rati by weight (R) 2010; Rtrnic AG E-M-HP22-V2_11

Using the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware, a fixed barmetric pressure value can be specified. Fr instructins see the fllwing HW4 manual: E-M-HW4v3-F Service cnnectr The service cnnectr is a UART digital interface (Universal Asynchrnus Receiver Transmitter) with a mini- USB type cnnectr. This allws cnnecting the HP22 either t a PC running the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware r t a prbe input f anther instrument that is cmpatible with the HygrClip 2 (HC2) prbes. In bth cases a service cable is required. See Maintenance fr the lcatin f the service cnnectr and fr the type f service cable t be used. Cnnecting the HP22 t a PC is used t cnfigure the HP22, gain access t the HP22 and prbe functins such as humidity and temperature adjustment, read data frm the HP22 n the PC and update the firmware f either the HP22 r prbe. Cnnecting the HP22 t anther instrument is useful nly when the ther instrument has its wn display and keypad, and has a mre pwerful internal menu than the HP22 (example HP23 hand-held calibratr). This allws shwing the data measured by the HP22 n the ther instrument display and als allws using the ther instrument internal menu t d fr example a humidity and temperature adjustment f the HP22. 3 User cnfigurable settings and functins The HP22 can be used just as any cnventinal humidity and temperature indicatr and mst users will never need t use the HP22 cnfigurable settings and functins. Making use f the HP22 cnfigurable settings and functins is entirely up t the user and the apprpriate settings depend n the user applicatin. The data recrding functin can be use t investigate events such as a sensr malfunctin as well as t retrieve data that wuld therwise be lst Start r stp data recrding - up t 2000 value pairs (%RH and temperature) Starting a recrding sessin erases all previusly recrded data The recrding mde and lg interval can be specified When the device is pwered ff, the recrding sessin is paused but nt ended As lng as the recrding sessin has nt been ended, the device autmatically resumes recrding data when pwered up again The recrded data can be dwnladed t a PC with the HW4 sftware, time stamped and viewed MEASUREMENT LOOP VALIDATION Functins Simulatr mde Descriptin Used t make the HP22 generate fixed values fr the humidity, temperature and calculated parameter. Can be enabled r disabled 3.2 Factry default settings Ntes: Cnfiguratin f the HP22 and prbe by the user and access t its functins requires a PC with the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware (versin r higher) installed. Service cable AC3006 is used t cnnect the HP22 service cnnectr t a USB prt f the PC. Each system cmpnent has its wn micrprcessr, firmware and functins. Sme f these functins are unique t each system cmpnent. Other functins are fund in bth cmpnents. The backlight can als be disabled. The upper line crrespnds t relative humidity r dew / frst pint and the bttm line crrespnds t temperature. The display can be cnfigured t shw a trend indicatr n each line: : increasing value : decreasing value In the event f an alarm the display shws the symbl [! ] t the right f the value. Fr instructins see the fllwing HW4 manual: E-M-HW4v3-F Keypad ON/OFF: MENU: Turns the instrument n r ff Activates / de-activates HOLD functin Press this key t activate the internal menu. 9 Dcument cde HygrPalm HP22 hand-held indicatr: Dcument title Rtrnic AG Bassersdrf, Switzerland Instructin Manual Page 9 f 16 Dcument Type 4.4 ON/OFF key The ON/OFF key is used as fllws: T turn the instrument n: press the ON/OFF key T turn the instrument ff: press the ON/OFF key fr mre than 1 secnd T activate the HOLD functin: press the ON/OFF key briefly (less than 1 secnd) T deactivate the HOLD functin: press the ON/OFF key briefly (less than 1 secnd) 4.5 Changing the parameters shwn n the display When the menu is nt active, press the ENTER key t change which parameters are shwn n the display: Relative humidity and temperature Relative humidity, temperature and calculated parameter (when calculated parameter is enabled) 4.6 HOLD functin When the HOLD functin is active, the wrd HOLD appears at the bttm f the LC display. The display is frzen and shws the values that were either last measured r last calculated at the time the ON/OFF key was pressed. Likewise, cmmunicatin with the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware is frzen. The ENTER key can still be used t change the parameters shwn n the display, but the values are nt updated. The HOLD functin is autmatically disabled whenever the instrument is turned ff. The values that were displayed while the HOLD functin was active are nt memrized and are lst. WARNING: while the HOLD functin is active, functins such as prbe adjustment frm the keypad shuld nt be used because bth the measured and calculated values are n lnger updated. 4.7 Changing the unit system The unit system (metric r English) can be changed frm the keypad (Menu > Settings > ). Press the MENU key t shw the internal menu n the display With the menu item Settings highlighted, press the ENTER key With the menu item highlighted, press the ENTER key Use the UP r DOWN key t change the unit system as desired Press the MENU key twice t exit the menu and return the HP22 t nrmal peratin The ptinal HW4 sftware can als be used t change the unit system. 4.8 Lw battery indicatr When the battery is dwn t abut 20% f its initial charge, Lw Battery appears at the bttm f the display. 2010; Rtrnic AG E-M-HP22-V2_11

At a humidity cnditin f 50 %RH, a temperature difference f 1 C (1.8 F) typically results in an errr f 3 %RH n relative humidity. When using the HP22 hand-held indicatr, it is gd practice t mnitr the display fr temperature stability. The prbe shuld be given sufficient time t equilibrate with the envirnment t be measured. The larger the initial temperature difference between the prbe and the envirnment t be measured, the mre time temperature equilibratin requires. This time can be shrtened, and errrs avided, by using the prbe cnfiguratin that fits best fr yur applicatin. In extreme situatins, cndensatin may ccur n the sensrs when the prbe is clder than the envirnment. As lng as the humidity / temperature limits f the humidity sensr are nt exceeded, cndensatin des nt alter the calibratin f the sensr. Hwever, the sensr has t dry ut befre it can prvide a valid measurement. Nn-mving air is an excellent insulatr. When there is n air mvement, surprising differences in temperature and humidity can nted ver shrt distances. Air mvement at the prbe generally results in measurements that are bth faster and mre accurate. 5 Maintenance 5.1 Replacing the battery T replace the battery, turn the latching buttn cunter-clckwise and pull ut the battery hlder. 5.2 Service cable Cable AC3006 cnverts UART (service cnnectr) t USB and is used t cnnect the HP22 t a USB prt f a PC running the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware. Prir t using this cable, the ROTRONIC USB driver must be installed n the PC. Bth the driver and the installatin instructins (dcument E-M-HW4v3-Main) are lcated n the HW4 CD. As an alternative, cable AC2001 is used t cnnect the HP22 t a prbe input f the HP23 hand-held calibratr. Fr service purpses, the HP23 ffers essentially the same functinality as the HW4 sftware. 2010; Rtrnic AG E-M-HP22-V2_11

D nt cnnect the service cnnectr directly t the USB prt f a PC r hub. The service cnnectr (UART interface) can be accessed withut pening the enclsure after remving the prtective red rund cver. 5.4 Peridic calibratin check f the prbe Bth the Pt 100 RTD temperature sensr used in the prbe and assciated electrnics are very stable and shuld nt require any calibratin after the initial factry adjustment. Lng term stability f the ROTRONIC Hygrmer humidity sensr is typically better than 1 %RH per year. Fr maximum accuracy, calibratin f the prbe shuld be verified every 6 t 12 mnths. Applicatins where the prbe is expsed t significant pllutin may require mre frequent verificatins. a) Prcedure fr adjusting the prbe frm the HP22 keypad Temperature adjustment The keypad f the HP22 allws nly a 1-pint adjustment f temperature. The effect f a 1-pint temperature adjustment is t add the same ffset t all measured values. When temperature is stable, press the MENU key t shw the internal menu n the display Use the (-) key t select Temperature Adjust and press the ENTER key Make sure that the text line beginning with RefValue is highlighted and press the ENTER key Use the (+) r (-) key t change the reference value t match the temperature reference Use the (-) key t highlight the Adjust text line and press the ENTER key The HP22 cnfirms the adjustment with the message Adjust OK Press the MENU key twice t exit the menu and return the HP22 t nrmal peratin Ntes: Any temperature adjustment shuld be dne prir t adjusting humidity The calibratin pint is autmatically deleted frm the prbe memry after an adjustment Because the HP22 has n real time clck, the date f the adjustment is nt written t the prbe. If retaining the adjustment date is imprtant, use the HW4 sftware t adjust the prbe. Humidity adjustment The keypad f the HP22 allws a multi-pint adjustment f humidity. The effect f a humidity adjustment depends n the number f calibratin pints present in the prbe memry prir t the adjustment: - ne calibratin pint: ffset added t all measured values - tw calibratin pints: ffset and slpe - three r mre calibratin pints: ffset, slpe, linearity 2010; Rtrnic AG E-M-HP22-V2_11

The calibratin pints (maximum 100) can be acquired in any rder but we recmmend ging frm lw humidity values t high humidity values. When humidity is stable, press the MENU key t shw the internal menu n the display Use the (-) key t select Humidity Adjust and press the ENTER key Make sure that the text line beginning with RefValue is highlighted and press the ENTER key Use the (+) r (-) key t change the reference value t match the reference humidity Use the (-) key t highlight the Acquire text line and press the ENTER key Nte that the Acquired cunter is incremented by 1 (number f calibratin pints in the prbe memry) When all calibratin pints have been acquired, use the (-) key t highlight the Adjust text line and press the ENTER key. D nt adjust the prbe befre having acquired all calibratin pints. The HP22 cnfirms the adjustment with the message Adjust OK Press the MENU key twice t exit the menu and return the HP22 t nrmal peratin Ntes: All calibratin pints are autmatically deleted frm the prbe memry after an adjustment Instructins fr using the ROTRONIC calibratin devices and humidity standards are prvided in dcument E-M-CalBasics Because the HP22 has n real time clck, the date f the adjustment is nt written t the prbe. If retaining the adjustment date is imprtant, use the HW4 sftware t adjust the prbe. b) Using the HW4 sftware t adjust the prbe cnnected t the HP22: Use cable AC3006 t cnnect the service cnnectr f the HP22 t a USB prt f a PC with the HW4 sftware installed. Nte that the ROTRONIC USB driver must be installed n the PC as explained in the HW4 manual E-M-HW4v3-Main. Start HW4 n the PC and search fr the HP22 (HW4 Main Menu Bar > Devices and Grups > Search fr USB Masters). After finding the HP22 with HW4, expand the device tree t see the HP22 functins. Select Prbe and Prbe Adjustment. Fr further instructins see HW4 manual E-M-HW4v3-A Cleaning r replacing the prbe dust filter See dcument E-M-HC2 Prbes-V1 6 Firmware updates Firmware updates will be available n the ROTRONIC website fr dwnlading. Firmware files are given a name that shws bth t which device the file applies and the versin number f the firmware. All firmware files have the extensin HEX. NOTE: the PCB f the HP22 has been mdified at the same time as firmware versin 2.0 was released. Instruments with the previus PCB can be updated frm firmware versin 1.x t firmware versin 2.x. but the HOLD functin will nt wrk. 2010; Rtrnic AG E-M-HP22-V2_11

Nte that the ROTRONIC USB driver must be installed n the PC as explained in the HW4 manual E-M-HW4v3-Main. Cpy the firmware update file frm the ROTRONIC website t the PC. Start HW4 sftware n the PC and search fr the HP22 (HW4 Main Menu Bar > Devices and Grups > Search fr USB Masters). After finding the HP22, expand the device tree t see the HP22 functins. Select Device Manager. In the Device Manager menu bar select Tls > Firmware Update.
