Press the record button and begin speaking. A new track will begin, and a waveform will be displayed showing what you have recorded.

If a region of audio is selected, only the selected region will play. To quickly play the entire project, execute select all before playing.

2 Recording Controls: Cursor to Start - Places the cursor at the start of the project. SHIFT + click expands the selection to the start of the project. Play Button - Press the play button to listen to the audio in your project. You can also hit the spacebar to start or stop playback. Playback begins at the current cursor position. If a region of audio is selected, only the selected region will play. To quickly play the entire project, execute select all before playing. If there are multiple tracks going to the same channel in your project, they will be mixed automatically for playback. Record Button - Press the record button to record a new track from your computer's sound input device. Use the preferences to configure the recording options. In particular, there is an option to record stereo or mono, and there is an option to play the other tracks while recording. Pause Button - Will pause during playback, or during recording. Press again to unpause. Stop Button - Press the stop button or hit the spacebar to stop playback immediately. Cursor to End - Places the cursor at the end of the project. SHIFT + click expands the selection To add to your recording: Simply press record again after stopping. A new track will appear and will begin recording at the location of your cursor on the previous track. To edit tracks: Use the selection tool to highlight the section you would like to edit. I have selected a span of silence.

3 You can push delete on the keyboard to delete your highlighted section. You can also use the silence buttons to either silence your section or silence everything else. Silence all but selection Silence selection To move an entire track, use the Time Shift Tool.

Both tracks are selected Select Quick Mix from the project menu.

4 Merging Tracks: You can merge multiple tracks by holding the Shift key and clicking on the left end of each tack you want to select. Both tracks are selected Select Quick Mix from the project menu. The tracks will combine into one. Deleting Tracks: Click on the X in the upper left hand corner of a track to delete it.

5 Importing Audio: Select Import Audio from the Project Menu. Browse to find your audio file. And click open. A new track containing your file will be displayed.

6 Fading In / Fading Out (Option 1): Highlight the section of track you would like to either fade in or fade out. Select Fade In or Fade Out from the Effects Menu. Your effect will display on the selected section.

Fading In / Fading Out (Option 2): Select the Envelope Tool in Audacity.

Click with the Envelope Tool where you want your fade to end.

Double click it. By the way If you had to download the LAME MP3 Encoder at home, I recommend that you move it to this location after it s downloaded so that you never accidentally delete it. Once the encoder has been located, you will be asked to enter some track information. Just fill out as much as you want and then click OK. Audacity will then export the MP3 to the location you chose!
