12 Software Version 2.0 Release & Errata Notes Lexicon ZONE2 IN or RECORD IN (continued from page 11) ANLG (Analog) DIGITAL DMIX (Downmix) The assigned analog audio input connector is sent to the ZONE 2 or RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS. The 5.1- channel analog input connector is not compatible with the ZONE 2 or RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS. Audio is not available in Zone 2 or the Record Zone when the 5.1- channel analog input connector is selected for the Main Zone, unless the 5.1a BYPASS listening mode is also selected for the Main Zone. Analog input sources are sent to all three RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS. Sources sent to the RECORD AUDIO OUTPUT labeled S/PDIF are sent through A/D conversion before reaching the output. Sources sent to the analog ZONE 2 or RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS are not sent through A/D conversion. The assigned digital audio input connector is sent to the ZONE 2 or RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS. The ZONE 2 AUDIO OUTPUTS will mute when an invalid digital audio input source is present. PCM input sources are the only valid digital input sources. Dolby Digital and dts(-es) are not valid digital input sources. Digital input sources are sent to all three RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS at the same time. Sources sent to the analog ZONE 2 or RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS are sent through D/A conversion before reaching the output. Sources sent to the RECORD AUDIO OUTPUT labeled S/PDIF are not sent through D/A conversion. A downmixed version of Main Zone audio is sent to the ZONE 2 or RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS. Downmixes can be generated for Dolby Digital, dts(-es), and 5.1-channel analog input sources. To generate a downmix, the input that is selected in Zone 2 or the Record Zone must also be selected in the Main Zone. Otherwise, the ZONE 2 or RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS will mute. Main Zone listening mode selection affects the ZONE 2 or RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS. For example, when the MONO listening mode is selected in the Main Zone, Zone 2 or Record Zone output signals will also be mono. Downmixes cannot be generated when the 5.1a BYPASS listening mode is selected in the Main Zone. It is recommended to set the ZONE2 IN or RECORD IN parameter to DMIX when recording from a DVD player without built-in Dolby Digital or dts-es decoding to a VCR or PVR (e.g. Tivo or Replay TV ). Independent zone monitoring is not available. Note: When a multi-channel input source is present and the playback component includes the appropriate decoder, it is recommended to set the ZONE2 IN or RECORD IN parameter to ANLG for independent zone monitoring. When a multi-channel input source is present and the playback component does not include the appropriate decoder, it is required to set the ZONE2 IN or RECORD IN parameter to DMIX. When this setting is selected, independent zone monitoring is not available. CAUTION When the ZONE2 IN or RECORD IN parameter is set to DIGITAL or ANLG, the MC-12 recognizes some dts-encoded input sources as audio signals (not data signals) and outputs loud digital noise from the ZONE 2 or RECORD AUDIO OUTPUTS. 12

The connector labeled PWR the power TRIGGER OUTPUT connector is not configurable. It is activated when the MC-12 is powered on and deactivated when the MC-12 is placed in standby or powered off. The connectors labeled 1 and 2 are configurable. Selecting a TRIGGER OUTPUT connector on the menu shown above accesses the corresponding TRIGGER SETUP menu shown at the right (TRIGGER 1 or 2 SETUP), which can be used to configure the connector for remote or program operation. The REMOTE ONLY parameter can be used to configure the selected TRIGGER OUTPUT connector for remote operation. All other parameters are referred to as program operation parameters, and can be used to configure the selected connector for program operation when the REMOTE ONLY parameter is set to. The TRIGGER 1 and 2 SETUP menus are shown at the right. The parameters on the right side of these menus are identical regardless of which connector is selected. 14 Software Version 2.0 Release & Errata Notes Lexicon TRIGGER SETUP Menu (continued from page 13) REMOTE ONLY SETUP (ON, ) Configures the selected TRIGGER OUTPUT connector for remote operation. When set to ON, the selected connector is configured for remote operation. It can be activated and deactivated with the remote control commands described on page 8. The MC-12 ignores all other TRIGGER 1 and 2 SETUP menu parameter settings. Program operation parameters set to ON are not associated with the selected connector. When set to, the selected TRIGGER OUTPUT connector is not configured for remote operation, and can be configured for program operation. Note: The TRIGGER OUPUT connectors are deactivated when the MC-12 is placed into standby. However, when configured for remote operation, the connectors are not automatically activated when the MC-12 is powered on. Instead, the connectors must be activated with the remote control commands described on page 8. PROGRAM OPERATION PARAMETERS SETUP TRIGGERS TRIGGERS TRIGGER 1 or 2 TRIGGER 1 or 2 REMOTE ONLY Parameter (ON, ) Configure the selected TRIGGER OUTPUT connector for program operation. With the exception of the REMOTE ONLY parameter, all TRIGGER 1 and 2 SETUP menu parameters are program operation parameters. The REMOTE ONLY parameter must be set to to configure the connector for program operation. When the REMOTE ONLY parameter is set to, the selected connector can be associated with Main Zone inputs and listening modes, Zone 2 input selection, and Record Zone input selection. (Connectors cannot be associated with individual Zone 2 or Record Zone inputs.) When the associated TRIGGER 1 or 2 SETUP menu input or listening mode parameter is set to ON, the selected connector is activated when the input or listening mode is selected and deactivated when the input or listening mode is deselected. When set to, the selected connector is not configured for program operation. NEW LISTENING S New listening modes are available for 2-channel and 5.1-channel analog input sources. The 5.1-channel analog listening modes are not available when the REAR PANEL CONFIG menu 8 STEREO INPUTS option is selected. These listening modes require the REAR PANEL CONFIG menu 5 STEREO & 5.1 ANLG option to be selected so the 5.1-channel analog input connector can be used with A/D conversion and internal processing. Selecting the MAIN MENU ADJUST option accesses the ADJUST menu shown on the next page, which indicates listening modes that have been added or modified since Software Version 1.0. The DOLBY Pro Logic listening modes have been renamed, and the DOLBY DIGITAL listening mode now includes EX decoding. The 5.1 BYPASS listening mode is now called 5.1a BYPASS. Descriptions of these new listening modes begin on the next page. Other listening mode descriptions begin on page 5-2 of the MC-12 14

The enhanced version of LOGIC7 monitors and examines the input source, adjusting the listening mode to optimize playback. The result is a higher, superior level of performance with a wider range of input sources. Note: Listening modes introduced in Software Version 2.0 are not compatible with earlier software versions. When reverting from Software Version 2.0 to a previous software version, these listening modes might cause false configuration settings. MUSIC SURR A proprietary Lexicon listening mode, similar to the MUSIC SURROUND listening mode in previous Lexicon products. Designed for playback of 2-channel stereo music sources recorded in real spaces and recordings that contain added reverb. Extracts ambient sounds from input sources and sends them to the side and rear speakers. Stereo information is shared between the front and center speakers. Front steering is relaxed compared to the LOGIC7 MUSIC listening mode. Recommended for classical music sources, which are often recorded in real spaces with added reverb to enhance the stereo mix.
