5 SOME DOS AND DON TS ON THE SAFE USE OF EQUIPMENT This equipment has been designed and manufactured to meet international safety standards but, like any electrical equipment, care must be taken if you are to obtain the best results and safety is to be assured. High temperatures can melt plastic and lead to fires. use makeshift stands and NEVER fix legs with wood screws - to ensure complete safety always fit the manufacturer s approved stand or legs with the fixings provided according to the instructions. use equipment such as personal stereos or radios so that you are distracted from the requirements of traffic safety. listen to headphones at high volume, as such use can permanently damage your hearing. leave equipment switched on when it is unattended unless it is specifically stated that is designed for unattended operation or has a stand-by mode. Switch off using the switch on the equipment and make sure that your family knows how to do this. Special arrangements may need to be made for infirm or handicapped people. continue to operate the equipment if you are in any doubt about it working normally, or if it is damaged in any way switch off, withdraw the mains plug and consult your dealer. ABOVE ALL NEVER let anyone especially children push anything into holes, slots or any other opening in the case this could result in a fatal electric shock; NEVER guess or take chances with electrical equipment of any kind. 6 Used correctly, domestic batteries are a safe and dependable source of portable power. Problems can occur if they are misused or abused resulting in leakage or, in extreme cases, fire or explosion. Here are some simple guidelines to safe battery use designed to eliminate any such problems. Take care to fit your batteries correctly, observing the plus and minus marks on the battery and appliance. Incorrect fitting can cause leakage or, in extreme cases, fire or even an explosion. Replace the whole set of batteries at one time, taking care not to mix old and new batteries or batteries of different types, since this can result in leakage or, in extreme cases, fire or even an explosion. Store unused batteries in their packaging and away from metal objects which may cause a short-circuit resulting in leakage or, in extreme cases, fire or even an explosion. Remove dead batteries from equipment and all batteries from equipment you know you are not going to use for a long time. Otherwise the batteries may leak and cause damage. Never dispose of batteries in fire as this can cause them to explode. Please recycle dead batteries; do not put with the normal household waste. Never attempt to recharge ordinary batteries, either in a charger or by applying heat to them. They may leak, cause fire or even explode. There are special rechargeable batteries which are clearly marked as such. Supervise children if they are replacing batteries themselves in order to ensure these guidelines are followed. Remember that small button cell batteries such as used in some hearing aids, toys, games and other appliances, are easily swallowed by young children and this can be dangerous. Keep loose button cells away from young children. Make sure battery compartments are secure. Seek medical advice if you believe a cell has been swallowed. 6

7 Safety Warnings Read all the instructions carefully before using the unit and keep them for future reference. Retain the manual. If you pass the unit onto a third party make sure to include this manual. Check that the voltage marked on the rating label matches your mains voltage. Damage Please inspect the unit for damage after unpacking. Do not continue to operate the unit if you are in any doubt about it working normally, or if it is damaged in any way - switch off, withdraw the mains plug and consult your dealer. Location of Unit The unit must be placed on a flat stable surface and should not be subjected to vibrations. Do not place the unit on sloped or unstable surfaces as the unit may fall off or tip over. The mains socket must be located near the unit and should be easily accessible. Temperature Avoid extreme degrees of temperature, either hot or cold. Place the unit well away from heat sources such as radiators or gas/electric fires. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and other sources of heat. Naked Flames Never place any type of candle or naked flame on the top of or near the unit. Moisture To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or product damage, do not expose this unit to rain, moisture, dripping or splashing. No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed on the unit. If you spill any liquid into the unit, it can cause serious damage. Switch it off at the mains immediately. Withdraw the mains plug and consult your dealer. Ventilation To prevent the risk of electric shock or fire hazard due to overheating, ensure that curtains and other materials do not obstruct the ventilation vents. Do not install or place this unit in a bookcase, built-in cabinet or in another confined space. Ensure the unit is well ventilated. Safety Always disconnect the unit from the mains supply before connecting/ disconnecting other devices or moving the unit. Unplug the unit from the mains socket before a lightning storm. 7

8 Mains Cable Make sure the unit or the unit stand is not resting on top of the mains adapter cable, as the weight of the unit may damage the cable and create a safety hazard. Interference Do not place the unit on or near appliances which may cause electromagnetic interference. If you do, it may adversely affect the operating performance of the unit, and cause a distorted picture or sound. Earphones Listening to loud sounds for prolonged periods of time may permanently damage your hearing. Before putting on earphones, turn the volume down then put the earphones on and slowly increase the volume until you reach a comfortable listening level. Batteries Batteries used in the remote control for this unit are easily swallowed by young children and this is dangerous. Keep loose batteries away from young children and make sure that the battery holder tray is secure in the remote control. Seek medical advice if you believe a cell has been swallowed. Please dispose of batteries correctly by following the guidance in this manual. Supervision Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the unit and the remote control. Never let anyone especially children push anything into the holes, slots or any other openings in the case - this could result in a fatal electric shock. Service To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove screws. The unit does not contain any userserviceable parts. Please leave all maintenance work to qualified personnel. Do not open any fixed covers as this may expose dangerous voltages. Maintenance Ensure to unplug the unit from the power supply before cleaning. Do not use any type of abrasive pad or abrasive cleaning solutions as these may damage the unit s surface. Do not use liquids to clean the unit. 8

It is located at the bottom back side of the remote control. 11

12 Battery Replacement for the Remote Control The remote control requires a CR2032, 3V Lithium battery. 1. Slide and hold the battery release tab in the direction of the arrow. 2. Pull out the battery holder and remove the old battery. 3. Replace with a new one battery. 4. Insert the battery holder back into the remote control. 12 Handling the Battery Improper or incorrect use of batteries may cause corrosion or battery leakage, which could cause fire, personal injury or damage to property. Install the battery correctly by following the polarity (+ and ) indications in the battery compartment. When the battery is exhausted, the remote control will not function. Only use the battery type indicated in this manual. Do not dispose of the used battery as domestic waste. Dispose of it in accordance with the local regulations. Small button cell batteries such as the one used in the remote control are easily swallowed by young children and this is dangerous. Keep loose button cells away from young children and make sure that the battery holder tray is secure in the remote control. Seek medical advice if you believe a cell has been swallowed.

Do not drop or cause impact to the remote control. Do not spill water or any liquid on the remote control. Do not place the remote control on a wet object. Do not place the remote control under direct sunlight or near sources of excessive heat. Remove the battery from the remote control when not in use for a long period of time, as it could cause corrosion or battery leakage and may result in physical injury and/or property damage including fire. Remote Control Operation Range Point the remote control at the unit no more than 5 metres from the remote control sensor and within 60 of the front of the unit. Connecting the unit to any other power source may cause damage to the unit. Unwind the mains cable to its full length. Connect the supplied power cable socket to the rear of the unit and then to the mains socket. Make sure the mains plug is fully inserted into the mains socket. The unit is now connected and ready to use. To the mains socket Using Earphones Turn down the volume before connecting the earphones. Slowly raise the volume with the earphones on until you reach your desired volume. When earphones are connected, the speaker is automatically muted. Avoid listening to sound at excessive levels which could be harmful to your ears. The prolonged listening at full volume can damage the ears of the user. 14

16 FM ANT NETWORK AUX IN LINE OUT AC~ V Connecting to the Internet Connecting to Your Home Network This radio can be connected to a local area network (LAN) via the LAN port at the rear of the unit. Wired network Connect the NETWORK socket on the unit to the corresponding port on your Router using a commercially available LAN or Ethernet cable (CAT5 or better with RJ45 connector). Using a wired network provides a better performance, than a wireless connection because the attached devices connect directly to the network and are not subject to radio frequency interference. Wired Router WAN Internet Ethernet Cable (not included) To the NETWORK Socket This unit cannot be connected to a standalone modem directly. A router or a modem incorporated with a router has to be used. When plugging or unplugging the LAN cable, hold the plug portion of the cable. When unplugging, do not pull on the LAN cable but unplug while pressing down on the lock. Do not connect a modular phone cable to the NETWORK socket. Since there are various connection configurations, please follow the specifications and instructions of your telecommunication carrier, Internet service provider, and router setting guidebook. 16

17 STANDBY Internet Radio & Media Player BACK SLEEP VOLUME + SELECT SCROLL Wireless network Another connection option is to use an Access Point or a wireless router. In the example configuration for a wireless connection below, the unit would be able to access content from your PC. The network configuration and connection method may vary depending on the equipment in use and the network environment. The unit is equipped with a wireless module, which supports b/g standards. Wireless Router WAN Internet This unit cannot be connected to the standalone modem directly. A router or a modem incorporated with a router has to be used. Since there are various connection configurations, please follow the specifications and instructions of your telecommunication carrier, Internet service provider, and router setting guidebook. 17

To playback music files from PC, make sure the unit and computer are in the same network. Modem/Router To the NETWORK WAN Socket Ethernet Cable (not included) Computer 18

19 Switching on Your Unit for the First Time When you first connect the unit to the mains socket, the unit will be in STANDBY mode. Press the STANDBY button on the unit or the remote control to switch on the unit. 1. For initial use, the unit will automatically enter the Network mode and start the auto scanning for Internet Network. 2. Once an Internet network is found, it will show all available networks on the display. 3. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select the network, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 4. The display will show Enter WEP Key or Enter WPA Key for wireless network which is secured. (The unit will automatically detect either WEP or WPA key input depending on Wi-Fi modem/ router setting). 5. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select alphanumberic letters, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to input. 19

20 6. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select END, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to complete type in. 7. If the WEP/WPA key input is correct, the display will show Network Ok. 8. The initial setting is now completed. After the first network connection completes, the unit may automatically update the settings for functionality enhancement through the network. After the update, the unit will reconnect to the network and is ready to use. This may take a few minutes. General Operation Powering ON/OFF When you first connect the unit to the mains socket. The unit will be in STANDBY mode. Press the STANDBY button on the unit or the remote control to switch the unit on. Press the STANDBY button on the unit or the remote control to switch the unit back to standby mode. Disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket if you want to switch the unit off completely. 20

21 Selecting Modes Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to display the menu. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control repeatedly to select the mode as follows. 23 Internet Radio Operation If the unit is connected to the mains power and then switched on from standby for the first time, the unit will automatically enter into the Internet Radio mode and perform network connection. During the scan the display will show Initialising Network and Scanning together with a slide bar that indicates the progress of the scan. 1. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to display the menu. 2. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select Internet Radio mode, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. Depending on the Internet connectivity and speed, Internet radio playback may stop from time to time for a few seconds for data buffering. To increase connectivity, either use a wired connection or move the unit nearer to the router. Location 1. During Internet Radio mode, turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select <Location>, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 2. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select which country stations you would like to listen to. 3. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 4. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select the station you would like to listen to, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. If you want to listen to a particular radio station which is currently not available online. 24 Genre 1. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select <Genre>, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 2. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select the genre of your choice. 3. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 4. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select the station you would like to listen to, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. Search 1. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select <Search>, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 2. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select alphanumberic letters, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to select. Repeat this step to input all letters. 3. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select END letter, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to complete type in. 4. The unit will start searching the keyword you type in. 5. All available stations found with the keyword will be listed. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 24

25 Storing Stations You can store up to 8 of your favourite stations to the memory. This will enable you to access your favourite stations quickly and easily. 1. To store a preset, you must first be listening to the station that you would like to save. 2. Press and hold the P1-P8 buttons on the remote control. The station will be stored and the Assigned to Preset # will show on the display. Recalling a Stored Station Once you have saved a station to one of the preset buttons, you can recall it by pressing the P1-P8 buttons on the remote control. If you press and hold the Preset 1-8 buttons for too long while recalling a saved station you will save the current station and overwrite the previous one. Internet stations which enable you to choose what you listen to Some Internet radio stations can provide a number of options associated with their station,; for example, some stations enable you to listen to programmes that have already been broadcast. When you select a radio statio that has this facility, the station does not start playing immediately. 1. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to choose <Live>, <On Demand>, etc., then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. If you choose <Live> the radio plays the current output from this station as normal. If you choose <On Demand> more screens are displayed where you can choose what you want to listen to. 25

26 What is displayed will depend on the station you have chosen. The following steps are only a guide. 2. When you choose <On Demand>, the display shows the names of the programmes. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to choose the program you want, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 3. When you have chosen the programme you want to listen to, either it will just start playing, or the display may show a list of days for you choose. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to set the day the programme was broadcast, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 4. After you have chosen the day, you may be able to choose the Start Time. Set the Start Time by turning the SCROLL control on the unit or by pressing the SCROLL buttons on the remote control. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 5. Programmes which enable you to choose the time also enable you to fast-forward and rewind to the part you want while the radio is playing. The elapsed time is displayed. Press the buttons on the remote control to skip forward or backward in 30 second intervals. Media Player Operation This function is for more advanced users. The built-in Media Player allows you to play unprotected audio files (AAC, MP3, WAV, WMA) and playlists (M3U) stored on a networked PC. 1. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to display the menu. 26

27 2. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select Media Player mode, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. UPnP server This unit can connect to a PC with Windows Media Player 11 or above, This allows you to access your media library on your PC. 1. During Media Player mode, turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select <UPnP Servers>. 2. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to scan for all available UPnP servers. 3. It may take a few seconds for the unit to complete its scan and before the scan has completed. If UPnP server is found all available servers will show on the display (If no UPnP servers are found the radio will show No PCs Found on the display). 4. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select desired UPnP, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. If access is denied from the UPnP server, [Empty] will show on the display. 5. The setting is now complete. On a PC, Media Sharing is only available when the network is set as a private one. Access Network and Sharing Center via Control Panel and set the Network as a private network. Media streaming has to be turned on to enable media sharing. Please check with your PC guidebook for advance network setting for different operation system version. To allow access on a PC, select and click Media Sharing under Library of Windows Media Player. Highlight Reciva Radio and click the ALLOW button followed by the OK button on a PC. System Requirements: Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista TM & Windows 7. Vista TM and Windows 7 users may find some functions do not operate. This unit is not MAC OS compatible. 27

28 Playback via UPnP Once the UPnP server is configured to share media files with the Internet radio, you can playback the files via UPnP. 1. During UPnP Servers mode, turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select a desired media category that is available from the PC UPnP server. 2. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control. 3. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select the media files that you wish to play and press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control. 4. The unit will start playback of the selected media. Windows Shares Please ensure that your PC is available on the network for your Internet radio and to share your audio folder or files from your computer. Check how to setup a folder for sharing from your computer instruction guide. 1. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select <Windows Shares>, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 2. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select <Scan for PCs>, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control. 3. The display will show all PC names that are found from the network. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select the computer that you wish to connect to. 4. The unit will search for all shared folders from that computer. 5. 29 Playback 1. Select your desired media and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to start playback. 2. During playback, press the button on the remote control to pause playback. 3. Press the button again to resume normal playback. Stop Press the button to stop the playback. Previous and Next 1. During playback, press the button once to skip to the beginning of the current track. Press the button twice to skip to the previous track. 2. During playback, press the button to skip to the next track. Shuffle and Repeat Mode 1. Under Media Player menu, turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select Playback mode. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 4. Alternatively, press the MODE button on the remote control to switch Shuffle and Repeat functions between on/off mode. 29

30 FM Operation 1. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to display the menu. 2. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select FM mode, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control. 3. The display will show FM and the frequency. Auto Scan To search for an FM station, press the SEEK buttons on the remote control to start the auto scan. The display will show Searching.... Once a station has been found, the scanning will stop automatically. Manual Scan To search for FM stations manually, turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control until your desired frequency is reached. With FM radio it may be necessary to fine tune each station by Turning the SCROLL control on the unit or pressing the SCROLL buttons on the remote control repeatedly. Each press will adjust the frequency by 0.05MHz. If reception is still poor adjust the position of the aerial or try moving the radio to another location. 30 Storing Stations You can store up to 8 of your favourite stations to the memory. This will enable you to access your favourite stations quickly and easily. 1. To store a preset, you must first be listening to the station that you would like to save 2. Press and hold the P1-P8 buttons on the remote control. The station will be stored and the Assigned to Preset # will show on the display.

31 Recalling a Stored Station Once you have saved a station to one of the preset buttons, you can recall it by pressing the P1-P8 buttons on the remote control. The stored stations will be saved into the memory and turning off the power will not erase it. Storing a new station into a present location will erase the previously stored station in that location If you press and hold the Preset 1-8 buttons for too long while recalling a saved station you will save the current station and overwrite the previous one. 31

32 Alarm Clock Setting 1. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to display the menu. 2. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select Alarm Clock mode, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control. Setting the Alarm 1. During Alarm Clock mode, turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select <Set Alarms>. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 2. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select the following options. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to select Alarm 1-5, Set Alarm 00:00 will show on the display, and the hour digits will highlight. 4. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to adjust the hour digits, and then press the SELECT button on the remote control to confirm. The minute digits will highlight. 5. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to adjust the minute digits, and then press the SELECT button on the remote control to confirm. 32

33 6. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to choose which days the alarm is to be set for. Once the alarm will be active one time. Every Day the alarm will be active Everyday Weekly the alarm will be active once a week of your chosen day. Weekdays the alarm will be active from Monday to Friday. Weekend the alarm will be active for Saturday and Sunday. 7. Press the SELECT button on the remote control to select. 8. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to choose between Buzzer, Internet Radio and FM mode. Internet radio stations currently stored in the memory can be chosen as the alarm wake up mode. Internet radio wake up can be set only when the radio is connected to the Internet network. 9. Press the SELECT button on the remote control to select. 10. The alarm setting is now complete. 11. The display will show the current time and alarm time in brackets on the display during standby mode. You are not able to choose Internet radio mode to set the alarm, if there is no preset station being set. If you have activated the alarm function and the wake-up in Internet Radio or FM mode is set, make sure that the volume is at a sufficient level for you to hear. To Cancel the Alarm 1. During Alarm Clock mode, turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select <Set Alarms>. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 33

34 2. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select Disable all to disable all alarms settings and reset to default. 3. To turn off individual alarm, turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select the desired alarm and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. 4. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select No and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to disable the alarm. 34 Setting the Sleep Timer Use the sleep timer to turn the system off after a certain number of minutes in play mode. By setting the sleep timer, you can fall asleep to music and know that your system will return to standby mode by itself rather than play all night. 1. During Alarm Clock mode, turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select <Sleep Timer>. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control. You may set the sleep timer up to 3 hours and 15 minutes to confirm. 2. Alternatively, press the SLEEP button on the remote control, Sleep Timeout will show on the display. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to the selected time, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. The unit is now set to turn off after the number of minutes that have been set. 3. Press the SLEEP button once on the unit or the remote control and leave the unit for 10 seconds to cancel the sleep timer. Timer Disabled will show on the display. Snooze Function When the alarm has triggered, press the SNOOZE button to temporarily switch off the alarm for approximately 5 minutes. Alternatively, press the STANDBY button on the unit or the remote control to turn off the alarm.

35 Other Connections Auxiliary Input 1. Before connecting to the mains socket, use the AUX IN cable (not included) to connect your audio device through the AUX IN socket at the rear of the unit. 2. Connect the mains cable to the mains socket. The unit will enter Standby mode. 3. Press the STANDBY button on the unit or the remote control to switch the unit on. 4. To select your operation source, press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to display the menu. 5. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select Auxiliary Input mode, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control. 6. In Auxiliary Input mode, you may operate your audio device directly for playback features. 7. Use VOLUME +/ buttons on the unit to adjust the desired volume level. 8. When finished listening, turn off the power of the external device. Press the SELECT/BACK buttons on the unit to return to main menu for Internet Radio or FM mode. When connecting the external device, refer to the owner s manual of the external device, as well as this manual. Examples of External Audio Sources that can be connected to the unit are: Portable MP3 Players, Cassette Players, Mini Disc Players, DVD Players, etc. 35

This name will be displayed on the network during media sharing. 4. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select END, and then press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control to confirm. WiFi Strength 1. Turn the SCROLL control on the unit or press the SCROLL buttons on the remote control to select <WiFi Strength>. 2. Press the SELECT button on the unit or the remote control. The percentage of WiFi Strength will show on the display. 39

40 Maintenance Cleaning the Unit Ensure to unplug the unit from the mains socket before cleaning. To clean the unit, wipe the case with a slightly moist, lint-free cloth. Do not use any cleaning fluids containing alcohol, ammonia or abrasives. Do not spray an aerosol at or near the unit. Troubleshooting If you have trouble connecting to your wireless network, these steps may help to resolve the problem: 1. Confirm that a Wi-Fi connected PC can acess the Internet (i.e. Internet browser) using the same network. 2. Check that a DHCP server is available, or that you have configured a static IP address on the radio. To configure the DHCP, you must read the instructions supplied with the wireless access point. 3. Check that your firewall is not blocking any outgoing ports. As a minimum the radio needs access to UDP and TCP ports 80, 554, 1755, 5000 and To configure the Access Port Control, you must read the instructions supplied with the wireless access point. 4. Check your access point does not restrict connections to particular MAC addresses. You can view the radio s MAC address using the menu item Settings Network Config View Config MAC address. 5. If you have an encrypted network, check that you have entered the correct key or pass phrase into the radio. Remember that textformat keys are case sensitive. 40

41 Hints and Tips If a problem does occur, it may often be due to something very minor. The following table contains various tips. Menu No power. The remote control does not function. The unit does not respond when pressing any buttons Radio Poor FM reception. Desired station not found. Description Ensure the mains plug is properly connected. Make sure that the unit is turned on. Use the remote control near the unit. Point the remote control at the remote sensor on the unit. Replace the battery in the remote control with a new one. Make sure the plastic sheet has been removed from the remote control. Remove any obstacles between the remote control and the unit. The unit may freeze up during use. Switch the unit off and then on again to reset the unit. Make sure the FM aerial wire is fully extended. Electrical interference in your home can cause poor reception. Move the unit away from them (especially those with motors and transformers). Weak signal. Use the Manual Tune function. If any anomaly is encountered, unplug the mains plug and reconnected again. 41
