Our range of second-generation high-definition A/V receivers takes the experience even further with some of the most acclaimed home theater features out there. For high-definition 1080p video and studio master-quality surround-sound formatssuch as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio these A/V receivers provide the right mix of amplification power, precision processing, and smart technological application. Pure Digital Delivery with HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) HDMI is the conduit through which the receivers in Onkyo s 2009 range receive and distribute high-definition audio and 1080p video. From the TX-SR507 upwards, every receiver is equipped with HDMI 1.3a, for processing studio master-quality multichannel audio from Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio. This version of HDMI also enables CEC (Consumer Electronics Control), greater bandwidth, Deep Color, lip-sync correction, and high frame rates. At the top end of the 2009 range, you can find receivers with up to eight HDMI inputs, and up to two outputs for connection to, say, a flat-panel display and a 1080p video projector. Meeting THX Benchmarks for Superior Performance and Reliability To ensure that all mid-range and high-end A/V receivers in the 2009 line-up meet THX s comprehensive performance standards, THX engineers spend countless hours testing and analyzing sound quality, usability, and interoperability for each model. Some models in the 2009 range are certified with THX Ultra2 Plus, others with THX Select2 Plus. HQV Reon-VX Chip for 1080p Video Upscaling and Processing Renowned for enabling the most sophisticated video processing in home theater, the HQV Reon-VX chip can be found onboard the TX-NR5007 and TX-NR3007. It provides the ultimate support for standard-definition and high-definition deinterlacing; 1080p video scaling; filtering of jaggies and artifacts; and the reduction of random, mosquito, and block (codec) noise. HQV Reon-VX also enables color region enhancement and the rendering of more than one billion colors. Standard chips process pixels in blocks, creating unwanted artifacts. HQV chips process pixels individually, for enhanced pixel accuracy. Images scaled by Reon-VX contain 80% new pixels to augment the original video data. Advanced Faroudja Video Processing with 1080p/1080i Upscaling The Faroudja name is synonymous with high-quality video processing. The Faroudja technologies incorporated into our 2009 A/V receiver range give you the power to bring out the best from both high-definition and standard-definition video content. The Faroudja DCDi Edge video processor converts interlaced video signals to progressive scan signals and effectively eliminates video artifacts from HDTV images. The Faroudja DCDi Cinema video processor is a more sophisticated version that drastically reduces video noise without sacrificing image quality and sharpness. 5 Tailor Multichannel Audio to Your Home with Audyssey and Dolby Technologies Onkyo A/V receivers use Audyssey s MultEQ XT, MultEQ, 2EQ, or EQ to counter distortion in dedicated home theaters. These solutions focus on the frequency response and time domain across the entire listening area to deliver a clear, well-balanced, and natural sound. Two other Audyssey technologies, Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume, work to optimize frequency response and dynamic range at all volume levels. In a similar vein, Dolby Volume performs independent loudness adjustments to different frequencies and channels to produce a listening experience that includes all the dynamics of the original mix. It also enables users to enjoy a consistent playback volume for different input sources. Audyssey DSX Adds Extra Dimensions to Surround Sound Audyssey DSX lets you augment a standard 7.1-channel surround set-up with two front wide channels. Two extra speakers expand the width of the soundstage and help to produce a more realistic and immersive listening experience. Alternatively, Audyssey DSX can be configured to deliver front height channels. These channels carry non-directional audio that adds a new vertical dimension to your movies and games. Dolby Pro Logic IIz for a More Enveloping Sound Field As with previous versions of Pro Logic, Pro Logic IIz creates a surround-sound experience from any movie or music sourceeven a stereo one. Pro Logic IIz also enables you to incorporate two front height speakers in one of several configurations, depending on the available speaker channels. The front height channels carry ambient audio effects that help immerse you even more deeply into your games and movies. PC Audio and Internet Radio via Network Function with DLNA 1.5 and Windows 7 Compatibility* Connecting directly to the internet or to your home PC, Onkyo s network-capable receivers bring PC audio and streaming internet radio into your home entertainment set-up. MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, and LPCMwhether on your PC or from the internet can now be played back through your main system with unprecedented power and fidelity. Onkyo network receivers bring to life a wide array of internet radio sources, such as Pandora, Rhapsody, SIRIUS Internet Radio, and vtuner. As well as being compatible with earlier platforms, these receivers are compatible with Microsoft s new Windows 7 platform *, which includes the DLNA 1.5-specified Play To media-streaming feature. A further benefit of having your receiver connected to the internet is that you can then easily update its firmware. *At the time of writing, Windows 7 compatibility was pending for the TX-NR807. ISF Video Calibration for Accurate Video Reproduction The TX-NR5007, TX-NR3007, and TX-NR1007 are equipped with industry-leading ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) video calibration to dramatically improve your home theater by enabling you to adjust the brightness, hue, contrast, saturation, and gamma levels on all video inputs. Transforming your A/V receiver into a video hub, this function ensures that every video source is independently calibrated for your connected high-definition display. What s more, ISF video calibration has been shown to improve energy savings in displays and projectors by up to 50%. A Fresh Approach to the Internal Construction of A/V Receivers Our design philosophy for the TX-NR5007, TX-NR3007, and TX-NR1007 is based on a consideration of how each individual part interacts with the others and affects audio and video performance. The end result is a receiver design where the power amplifier block and the pre-amplifier coexist, but are perfectly isolated. Furthermore, the circuit boards have been affixed to the chassis so that vibrations from the base are suppressed. As Onkyo s new flagship model for the high-definition era, the TX-NR5007 forges further ahead with gold-plated A/V inputs and outputs, a brass bus plate for perfect grounding, and customized, gold-plated speaker posts. Push-Pull Amplification with Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry Push-pull amplification uses different transistors to separately amplify the positive and negative halves of the waveform. This brings greater efficiency to the TX-SR707 and higher models, which also use three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry to remove distortion. Home Theater Components 5

6 Harnessing Power for Audio Performance Onkyo's H.C.P.S. (High Current Power Supply) concept is based around power transformers with the capability to respond to the wide dynamics of home theater. In the case of the TX-NR5007, a massive toroidal transformer improves power efficiency and radiates very little noise into the surrounding circuitry, while two separate transformers cater specifically to audio and video processing. You ll also find capacitors (operating at up to 22,000 microfarads) that store the charge necessary to support an effective power supply, along with large new customdesigned transistors to drive high currents. Bi-Amping and BTL (Bridged Transless) Capability Taking a cue from the world of high-end audio, selected models in Onkyo s 2009 lineup incorporate bi-amping and BTL capabilities. This allows for a number of different home theater set-ups beyond the standard surround-sound configurations. Compatible front speakers can be bi-amped for separate tweeter and woofer inputs. Meanwhile, BTL enables you to double the power output to compatible front speakers. VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) Onkyo s VLSC employs a unique digital-to-analog conversion circuit to mitigate the effects of signal noise. Data is converted between discrete sampling points, which are then joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The resulta noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source. WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) A Total Design for Amplification Power Uncommonly Low Negative-Feedback DesignGet cleaner sounds on program peaks Negative feedback (NFB) is the most cost-effective way to reduce noise at lower frequencies, but it will severely inhibit an amplifier s ability to respond to musical crescendos and to produce sound at high frequencies. We use a low negativefeedback design with audiophile-grade, close-tolerance components at critical points in the signal path. This design achieves a frequency response out to 100 khz for high-definition and regular DVD formats, high-resolution DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD, regular CDs, digital music files, and the latest gaming software. Closed Ground-Loop CircuitsEnjoy distortion-free audio at any volume If an amplifier s ground potential (voltage) fluctuates during playback, you can expect noise. In an open-loop circuit design, where all circuits are connected to the power supply via one loop (like on many amplifiers), the noise multiplies exponentially. Onkyo s sophisticated closed-circuit design enables each circuit to go and return directly to the power supply, which cancels any individual circuit noise and keeps the ground potential free of distortion. HICC (High Instantaneous-Current Capability)Experience home entertainment with greater impact After an amplifier outputs an audio signal, the speakers accumulate energy, reflex, and send energy back to the amplifier. The amplifier must immediately cancel the speakers reflex energy and instantaneously send out the next signal. A high current is necessary to handle speaker impedance fluctuations, which can force an amplifier to provide four to six times its usual current load. The instantaneous current capability of even Onkyo s least expensive WRAT receivers exceeds that of most conventional units, which commonly have less than half the current capability. 7 High-Performance Burr-Brown DACs for All Channels The high-end TX-NR5007 employs 192 khz/32-bit Burr-Brown DACs (PCM1795) to achieve the best possible dynamic performance and improved tolerance to clock jitter. Meanwhile, the following four models in our latest A/V receiver line-up use 192 khz/24-bit Burr-Brown DACs. The TX-NR3007 and TX-NR1007 incorporate Texas Instruments PCM1796, while the TX-NR807 and TX-SR707 use PCM1690 converters. Texas Instruments DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Chips Onkyo A/V receivers employ up to three Texas Instruments Aureus DSP chips (DA830 and DA788) to handle the advanced processing needs of Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Audyssey MultEQ XT, and post-processing. The DA830 is also specially designed to cope with the heavy demands of processing a network connection. Neural-THX Surround Decoding Technology Neural-THX Surround enables content to be encoded into 5.1 or 7.1 channels and transmitted to an Onkyo A/V receiver, where it is decoded onboard. This technology reduces the bandwidth needed by broadcasters to deliver sound content and enables 7.1 channel support for gaming and movies. Playback of Different A/V Sources Throughout the Home Zone 2/3 and Powered Zone 2/3 bring multi-zone audio entertainment to your home through dedicated line outs, pre outs, and speaker connections. And with the TX-NR5007, TX-NR3007, and TX-NR1007, you have the added advantage of video in a second room. Independent control of volume levels, speaker balance, and bass/treble levels for the separate zones is available on selected models. Universal Port* for Single-Cable Connection of Onkyo Peripheral Devices A proprietary Universal Port located on the rear side of almost all new Onkyo A/V receivers lets you connect an UP-A1 Dock for the ipod or UP-HT1 HD Radio Tuner. If you have both peripheral devices, they can easily be daisy chained via an input on the UP-HT1. A key advantage of the Universal Port is that it accepts video and audio signals through the same cable that sends a power supply from the receiver to the devices. 32 G L O S S A RY Music Optimizer to Support Compressed Digital Music Files While MP3 or AAC files may sound fine on a portable digital player, the limitations of these compressed files can be exposed when played back through a home entertainment system. Onkyo has designed onboard Music Optimizer technology to improve the quality of compressed audio signals. Compressed music loses a substantial amount of bit information at higher frequencies, so the Music Optimizer technology works to overcome this limitation and enhance audio quality. Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry In conventional volume-attenuation methods, the signal comes close to the noise floor at low volumes and is therefore susceptible to interference. Even if the amount of noise is minimal, it taints the signal as it is amplified. Onkyo s Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry adjusts the gain so that less than half the typical amount of attenuation is necessary.
