1 Elluminate Live! V9.5 User Guide for Moderator 1. What is Elluminate? a. Web conferencing tool: browser based, bandwidth friendly b. Multimedia: i. Audio (supports simultaneous talkers) ii. Text messaging iii. Video (preview, snapshot to whiteboard, individual adjustment of frame rate and connection speed) iv. Whiteboard (Presentation Mode in whole window) v. Application sharing (Presentation Mode in whole window) 1. Right mouse click on a participant to give application control 2. Ctrl + Space to withdraw control vi. File transfer vii. Preload multimedia content (Multimedia Library) c. Accessibility compliance i. Windows, Mac, Linux, Solaris ii. Bandwidth friendly: individual bandwidth adjustment (Tools > Preferences > Session > Connection Speed) iii. Sessions can be recorded iv. Chat scripts can be saved v. Screen reader support vi. Personal Profile ( 2 nd Top Link or Tools > Preferences > Profile) b. Action indicators c. Emoticons for quick responses d. Permission control: i. Click a tool icon next to a participant to take / give permission ii. Click a tool icon on the top tool bar to control permission for every participant iii. Right mouse click on a participant to give application control, give moderator privilege, or remove the participant iv. Right mouse click on a participant to send the person to a breakout room or return to Main Room e. Polling i. Yes/No options ii. A C / A D / A E multiple choices iii. Hide / Lock / Show / Save polling results iv. Clear polling responses f. Recording a session g. Access to a recorded session 4. Meeting Sessions a. Session set up b. Participant notifications 5. Course Sessions a. Recurring sessions throughout a semester or year b. Registration required. Only users with accounts can be enrolled c. No need for notification for each session 6. 3 Tool Bar 1. Save Chat Script or Whiteboard 2. Print Whiteboard 3. Display Layout 4. Show Poll Results to Moderators only (available to moderator only) 5. Lock Poll Responses (available to moderator only) 6. Publish Poll Statistics to Whiteboard (available to moderator only) 7. Select Yes or No as your answer 8. Maximize the Whiteboard display to the entire window (on the participants side) 9. Share Application / Stop Sharing (any application running on desktop) 10. Show the Multimedia Library Window (preload MPEG, QuickTime, MP3, Flash files for session use) 11. File Transfer (send files in real time to participants) 12. Enable/Disable Video Camera Support (video camera not needed for viewing others video) 13. Show the Video Window (available when Video Camera Support is enabled) 14. Timer (to be displayed for moderators or for participants as well) 15. Note Window (could be exported as txt file) Participants Panel 1. Give microphone, chat, whiteboard, and application sharing to all or some participants 2. Take away microphone, chat, whiteboard, and application sharing from all or some participants (except moderators) 3. Lower all raised hands 4. Clear polling results 3

Select (single click) one participant and right mouse click on the participant to pop up a menu: a. give moderator privilege b. request desktop control c. mute speakers while talking d. remove participantt 6. Select multiple participants (hold Ctrl key and select) and a. Createe breakout rooms b. Distribute participants c. Return everyone to main room d. Remove participants 4
5 Audio 1. Audio Set Up Wizard (Select Tools Menu > Audio > Audio Set Up Wizard 2. Click (Press) the microphone button to talk. Click again to give it back. 3. You can allow more than one person to have the microphone at the same time. 5

8 Whiteboard 1. This is the display area of the following a. Application Sharing b. Drawing c. Multimedia files preloaded into the Multimedia Library d. PowerPoint Presentation e. Web tour 2. Before sharing an application, such as a spreadsheet or a Word document, make sure that the application has been launched and is running. 3. Before sharing multimedia files (generally video), preload the files to the Multimedia Library. 8
9 4. Before presenting a PowerPoint, preload the file. The default screen selection is After current screen which will put the PowerPoint slides behind the current screen. You ll need to move forward to find and display the PPT slides. Instructional Applications 1. Online presentation 2. Group discussion (real time) with application and data sharing 3. Virtual office hours 4. Trouble shooting (esp. applications or programs with rich visual interface) Things to Become Familiar with 1. Take and return the microphone. 2. Attention to the chat window when presenting. 3. Use emoticons and polling functions to check audience and adjust the session progress. 4. Click the record button if the session needs to be recorded.
