4 Zend Platform Overview Zend Platform is a complete runtime environment for managing all aspects of the PHP environment in a single, centralized location. This includes cluster management, performance managenment, monitoring, detection, recovery, and Java integration. It is an integrated viewpoint into the PHP environment that improves the end user s experience and IT productivity. Understanding Zend Platform Zend Platform sits between Zend Core (that includes PHP and Zend Engine) and the organization s PHP scripts, providing the platform on which Web services, business-to-commerce applications, content management, intranets and business-to-business applications are based. 5 Central Management Tool The Zend Platform is a central management tool providing: Configuration Management. Platform provides full control of the PHP application platform, including performance management settings, event thresholds, etc. It allows the administrator to create configure individual servers as well as groups of multiple, identical servers via: Individual configuration of remote servers. Cloning configuration of one server to another, or from one server to an entire group of servers. Performance Management. Platform is equipped with four performance management modules that are used to track and improve the speed and responsiveness of Web applications. These include: Code Acceleration, Dynamic Content Caching, File Compression and the Zend Download Server. Monitoring, Detection and Recovery. Platform features new technology that detects and recovers from crashes, whether they occur in PHP itself, the database software, or applications. The integrated tools of monitoring, detection and recovery features allow users to drill down to critical issues and optimizations quickly and easily. Integration Java and The Platform PHP/Java Bridge allows companies who have investments in J2EE application servers to take advantage of PHP. In addition, the Bridge allows PHP-centric companies to use J2EE services that are not present in scripting languages. The Platform PHP/Java Bridge is not limited to interactions strictly with J2EE and legacy systems, it also provides the ability to interact with plain Java objects. The 5250 Bridge allows companies to leverage i5/os servers and bring them forward to the Web. By creating a layer of web applications or translating existing i5/os programs to Web applications

6 Zend Platform Components Zend Platform consists of the following components created during installation: Zend Central Zend Central is a portal to Zend products installed within the PHP-enabled network system. It provides the user a central management point to Zend products that installed on the cluster, as well as a means to monitor the health and availability of the installed PHP applications. Zend Central allows the user to configure groups of servers, distribute configurations, as well as to see the status of the products that installed on registered Zend Platform nodes. Zend Monitor Zend Monitor is a PHP-centric monitoring tool that enables the user to rapidly pinpoint problems in their PHP applications and solve them before they escalate. The product shortens the process from development to testing and production. Zend Central also provides the user with enough information about the PHP support environment s health and availability so the user can spot issues outside of PHP such as system load and execution performance problems. Platform includes a variety of screens and views that enable the user to identify issues in their clusters both in broad perspective and in detail. Zend Platform s Performance Module Zend Platform s Performance Module is a complete performance management solution for delivering PHP-based dynamic content cost-effectively. The Performance module is based on Zend s state-of-the-art Dynamic Content Caching, Code Acceleration and File Compression technologies. This solution helps improve the number of customers your server will be able to handle. Java Binary Interface The Java Binary Interface enables programmers to write PHP scripts that can communicate with the Java API and any Java application that has an open API. The 5250 Bridge The Zend 5250 Bridge is PHP API allowing for running interactive (5250) applications in a Web environment. This provides an answer to the challenges faced with directly accessing the 5250 data stream. The 5250 Bridge provides functions/classes for running interactive i5/os based applications through a browser

7 Installing Zend Platform Before installing Zend Platform, please read the following important messages. The install and uninstall processes require that you sign on as a QSECOFR user only! Zend Platform 3.6 requires Zend Core To uninstall Zend Platform version (if installed): Go to the command line and enter: DLTLICPGM LICPGM(1ZCORE5)OPTION(1) Note: To uninstall Zend Core from a system that has both Zend Platform and Zend Core you must first remove Zend Platform before removing Zend Core. To Install Zend Platform: Create a SAVF in QGPL under the name ZPLATSAVF: CRTSAVF FILE(QGPL/ZPLATSAVF) Download the Installation file from the Zend site. Transfer it by binary FTP to the SAVF ZPLATSAVF in QGPL. Run RSTLICPGM as follows: RSTLICPGM LICPGM(1ZCORE5) DEV(*SAVF) OPTION(1) SAVF(QGPL/ZPLATSAVF) The installation screens will load automatically. When the SAVF is loaded into the i5 QGPL library, enter the following information: Product: 1ZCORE5 Optional part to be restored: 1 Device: *SAVF Save File: ZPLATSAVF Restore Licensed Program (RSTLICPGM) Type choices, press Enter. Product > 1ZCORE5 Character value Device > *SAVF Name, *SAVF + for more values Optional part to be restored.. > 1 *BASE, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7... Note: Installing the different components make take a while. Depending on your environment s settings you can follow the progress from the bottom of the screen. 9 The Installation welcome screen contains details of what the installation procedure contains. Press Enter to continue to the license agreement screen. The Zend Platform installation will run and install the following Zend Platform components: Zend Platform GUI Collector Center JavaMW Server MySQL Server Cache Cleaner 5250 Bridge Once the installation is completed, the "installation completion" screen will appear. This screen contains the name of the URL that will direct you to the Zend Platform GUI

10 Welcome to Zend Platform Thank you for installing Zend Platform. In order to start the Platform use Note: Press Enter to start Platform servers. Otherwise press F3 to finish installation. In order to start / stop ZendPlatform services use GO ZPMENU F3=Exit Enter=Accept Copyright Zend Technologies LTD (2008) Figure 5: Installation Completion Screen In order to access Zend Platform the Zend Platform servers have to be running. To run the Zend Platform servers directly from the installation procedure press Enter or press F3 to finish the installation without starting the Zend Platform servers. Note: If you choose not to start the Zend Platform Servers, you can always manually stop and start the Zend Platform servers by going to the Zend Platform menu (Type GO ZENDPLAT/ZPMENU). See the section on the Zend Platform Menu. After successfully installing Zend Platform the following message will appear: *PGM objects for product 1ZCORE5 option 1 release *FIRST restored

11 Zend Platform Installation Log Once the Zend Platform installation is completed, you can view the Installation log. The Installation log lists all installed components along with their status. To view the Installation log use: WRKLNK '/tmp/platforminstall.log' and choose the option: 5=Display. 12 Zend Platform Menu The Zend Platform Menu (ZPMENU) is a central control screen for starting and stopping the servers related to Zend Platform s features and functionality. Through this screen, you can: Open the Start Services Menu Open the Stop Services Menu Change Password Menu The 5250 Bridge Management Menu ZPMENU Select one of the following: Zend Platform. 13 Start Services Menu Through this screen, you can start the following servers: Apache Server - Starts the Apache servers for Zend Core and Zend Platform Zend Platform s Collector Center - Starts the collection center job, which will begin collecting Zend Platform PHP Intelligence Event information. Zend Platform s JavaMW server - Starts the Start Java MW server job for using Zend Platform s Java Bridge. MySQl Server - Starts the MySQL server job. Cache Cleaner - Starts the Cache Cleaner job that will clear Cached information as defined in Zend Platform s Performance settings for Dynamic Content Caching. Start Job Queue Daemon Starts the daemon that runs the Zend Platform Job Queues feature. The 5250 Bridge server Starts i5/os WebFacing server ZPSTART Select one of the following: 1. Start Apache server 2. Start Collector Center 3. Start JavaMW server 4. Start MySQL server 5. Start Cache Cleaner 6. Start Job Queue Daemon 7. Start 5250 Bridge server 90. 14 Stop Services Menu Through this screen, you can stop the following servers: Stop apache server - Choose this option to stop apache servers for Zend Core and Zend Platform. Stop Collection Center - Stops the collection center job. While stopped Zend Platform s PHP Intelligence will not collect Event information. Stop Java MW server - Stops Java MW server job, disabling the Zend Platform Java Bridge. Stop MySQL Server - Stops the MySQL server job. Stop Cache Cleaner - Stops the Cache Cleaner job. Cached information will not be removed. Stop Job Queue Daemon Stops the daemon that runs the Zend Platform Job Queues feature scheduled Jobs will not run. Stop 5250 Bridge server Stops the WebFace server job ZPSTOP Select one of the following: Zend Platform. System: SMBT Stop Apache server 2. Stop Collector Center 3. Stop JavaMW server 4. Stop MySQL server 5. Stop Cache Cleaner 6. Stop Job Queue Daemon 7. Stop 5250 Bridge server 90. 15 Change Password Menu When initially installing Zend Platform, the installer automatically takes all Login information (User Name and Password) from the Zend Core Setup Tool. Once products are installed, no subsequent changes made to the Zend Platform Password will affect the Zend Core Login information and visa versa, changes to the Zend Core login information will not affect the Zend Platform login information. To change your Zend Platform Password select option 3 from the Zend Platform Menu (ZPMENU), and enter the new password in the Change Password screen (Below). 16 Zend 5250 Bridge Management Menu Through this screen, you can restart 5250 Bridge server and reset the 5250 Bridge environment: Restart 5250 Bridge server - Choose this option to stop and start the Webface server Reset 5250 Bridge environment The 5250 Bridge environment maintains session information on the connection between PHP and i5/os. The 5250 Bridge environment should be reset if problems occur when running your applications using the 5250 Bridge. ZPM5250 Select one of the following: 1. Restart 5250 Bridge service 2. Reset 5250 Bridge environment 90. 17 Starting Zend Platform 1. To access Zend Platform, open your Web browser and go to : Figure 12: Zend Platform Login Screen 2. Type your zend.com password to login and click. The Zend Platform User name and Password set as the same user name and password as Zend Core

18 Uninstalling Zend Platform To uninstall Zend Platform: Go to the command line and enter: DLTLICPGM: LICPGM(1ZCORE5)OPTION(1) To remove Zend Core and Zend Platform, go to the command line and enter: DLTLICPGM: LICPGM(1ZCORE5)OPTION(*ALL)
