10 10 Performing the deep discovery of enclosures About the Veritas Operations Manager Storage Insight Add-on for Deep Array Discovery and Mapping This version of the Storage Insight Add-on is supported only on Veritas Operations Manager versions 4.0, and later. As part of its deep array discovery capabilities, the Storage Insight Add-on lets you manage the following enclosures: HITACHI IBM XIV EMC Symmetrix EMC CLARiiON NetApp Storage Insight Add-on uses the HiCommand server to gather the information. Storage Insight Add-on uses the XCLI utility that communicates to the IBM XIV systems using the TCP/IP protocol to gather the information. Storage Insight Add-on uses the SymCLI utilities to gather the information. Storage Insight Add-on uses the NavisecCLI utility to gather the information. Storage Insight Add-on uses the NetApp Data ONTAP SDK interface utility to gather the information. You must configure deep array discovery on the following enclosures to get the deeper information: HITACHI IBM XIV EMC Symmetrix EMC CLARiiON NetApp After you configure deep discovery for these enclosures, the discovery happens once every six hours and the Veritas Operations Manager database is updated accordingly. Note: To perform deep array discovery of enclosures, you require the access to storage views and operations. After the Storage Insight Add-on performs the deep discovery of enclosures, you can view the following types additional information on the details page of each enclosure: Logical devices

The tiering of LUNs supports the Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM), which manages the data by putting them into different types of storage media according to various parameters. Also, the Storage Insight Add-on lets you perform the maintenance of the Dynamic Multipathing (DMP) paths in the level of array ports and adapters. Configuring deep discovery for HITACHI storage enclosures The Veritas Operations Manager Storage Insight Add-on for Deep Array Discovery and Mapping provides you detailed information on the storage enclosures in your datacenter. By bringing you the information to the level of adapters and disks, the Storage Insight Add-on helps you understand your storage enclosures in a much deeper level. As part of its deep array discovery capabilities, the Storage Insight Add-on provides you options to understand the HITACHI enclosures in your datacenter in a better way. The Storage Insight Add-on makes use of the HiCommand server that is connected to a host, which you can designate as the control host to get the information from HITACHI enclosures. This host need not be a part of the Management Server. The HITACHI Agentlet that resides on the Management Server pushes the application programming interface (API) to the control host to get the information from the HiCommand server using XML. The control host executes the commands to collect the information on the enclosures. This

After the Storage Insight Add-on performs the deep discovery of HITACHI enclosures, you can view the following additional information on the details page of a HITACHI enclosure: LDEVs (Logical Devices) PDEVs (Physical Devices) Array Groups Replications Thin Pools To perform this operation, you must have the domain administrator privilege, with an access to the storage views and operations. To configure deep discovery for the HITACHI storage enclosures 1 In the Veritas Operations Manager console, select Settings > Enclosure Management. 2 In the Enclosure Management page, click Configure New Device. 3 In the Configure Device wizard panel to specify the details of the devices, enter the required information. Click Next. See Configure Device panel for deep discovery of enclosures on page In the Configure Device wizard panel that lists the HITACHI enclosures that are connected to the HiCommand server, enter the required information to update discovery information. A host that runs on Solaris, Linux, Windows, AIX, or HP-UX can be designated as a secondary control host. Hosts that run on the same operating system must be designated as the primary and the secondary control hosts. However, you can choose a host that runs on Solaris and a host that runs on Linux as a primary and the secondary control host pair if the location of the NaviSecCLI is the same for these two types of hosts. Storage Array Name/IP Port Name or the IP address of the storage enclosure. The port for communicating to the EMC CLARiiON enclosure for getting the information. The default port number is 443. Username Password Enter the user name for the EMC CLARiiON enclosure. Enter the password for the EMC CLARiiON enclosure.

The available options are: Global - Choose this option if your account is effective throughout the domain. When the administrator creates a global account, the software copies the definition of this account to the domain directory, which makes it accessible on all storage systems in the domain. Local - Choose this option if your account is effective only on the storage systems for which the administrator creates the account. Using the local account, you can log on to only those storage systems on which you have a local account. LDAP - LDAP maps the user name and the password entries to an external LDAP or Active Directory server for authentication. The user name and the password pairs whose roles are not mapped to the external directory are denied access. For authentication within the local security directory, specify global or local scope. NaviSecCLI Location Use Default The location of the NaviSecCLI binary in the control host. Choose this option if you have stored the NaviSecCLI binaries on the default location. You must ensure that the NaviSecCLI binaries are available on the primary and the secondary control hosts.

Enter the path to the location in the field. You must ensure that the NaviSecCLI binaries are available on the primary and the secondary control hosts. Use Secure Socket Layer Select this check box to use the secure socket layer for communicating to the enclosure. If you select this check box, you do not have to enter the credentials again when you perform deep discovery for the EMC CLARiiON enclosures. See Configuring deep discovery for EMC CLARiiON storage enclosures on page 23. Configure Device panel to update the deep discovery information for enclosures Use this wizard panel to update the deep discovery information for an enclosure. It indicates the following: Local: Whether the enclosure is connected the host locally Remote: Whether the enclosure is connected to another enclosure, using the EMC Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF), which might have been connected to the host locally Discovery Choose Enable to perform the deep discovery. Choose Disable to disable the deep discovery. Configured by If the enclosure was already configured for deep discovery, the configuration name that was entered at that time is displayed in this field. You can enable deep discovery for the all the enclosures in the list by clicking the Enable All check box. See Configuring deep discovery for HITACHI storage enclosures on page 11. By bringing you the information to the level of adapters and disks, the Storage Insight Add-on helps you understand your storage enclosures in a much deeper level. As part of its deep array discovery capabilities, the Storage Insight Add-on provides you options to understand the IBM XIV storage enclosures in your datacenter in a better way. It makes use of the XCLI utility that communicates to the IBM XIV systems using the TCP/IP protocol. The XCLI utility must be configured on the control host, which must be part of the Veritas Operations Manager domain. After the Storage Insight Add-on performs the deep array discovery of the IBM XIV enclosures using the XCLI utility, you can view the following additional information on the details page of an IBM XIV enclosure: Pool Volumes Storage pools Replications Array ports and adapters Host associations To perform this operation, you must have the domain administrator privilege, with an access to the storage views and operations. Note: The size of 1 MB in an IBM XIV enclosure is equivalent to 1000 KB, unlike the normal 1024 KB. Therefore, the disk capacity may vary from what you actually see on an IBM XIV enclosure on the Veritas Operations Manager console. To configure deep discovery for the IBM XIV storage enclosures 1 In the Veritas Operations Manager console, select Settings > Enclosure Management. 2 In the Enclosure Management page, click Configure New Device. 3 In the Configure Device wizard panel to specify the details of the devices, enter the required information. Click Next. To discover the Media Type and the RPM for a Symmetrix enclosure, you must use SymCLI Version 7.1 or later. To configure deep discovery, you must have the domain administrator privilege. To configure deep discovery for the EMC Symmetrix storage enclosures 1 In the Veritas Operations Manager console, select Settings > Enclosure Management. 2 In the Enclosure Management page, click Configure New Device. 3 In the Configure Device wizard panel to specify the details for the deep discovery, enter the required information. Click Next. Configuring deep discovery for EMC CLARiiON storage enclosures The Veritas Operations Manager Storage Insight Add-on for Deep Array Discovery and Mapping provides you detailed information on the storage enclosures in your datacenter. By bringing you the information to the level of adapters and disks, the Storage Insight Add-on lets you understand your storage enclosures in a much deeper level. As part of its deep array discovery capabilities, the Storage Insight Add-on provides you options to understand the EMC CLARiiON enclosures in your datacenter in a better way. Storage Insight Add-on communicates to the EMC CLARiiON enclosures through the NaviSphere Secure CLI (NaviSecCLI) utility, which is the secure CLI for communicating to the NaviSphere package on the enclosure. The NaviSphere Secure CLI utility must be installed on a control host that is a part of the Veritas Operations Manager domain. After you configure deep discovery, you can view the following information on the details page of an EMC CLARiiON enclosure: Details of the enclosure with a graphical representation of the components

Note: Storage Insight Add-on supports only the NaviSphere Secure CLI, version It does not support the NaviSphere Classic CLI (NaviCLI). The NetApp storage objects work on the Data ONTAP operating system,

25 Performing the deep discovery of enclosures Configuring deep discovery for NetApp storage enclosures 25 which provides various interfaces to administer the NetApp storage objects. Veritas Operations Manager communicates to the enclosures using the ONTAP SDK interface to get the NetApp enclosure information. This communication occurs through the HTTP protocol (using the port number 80) or through the HTTPS protocol (using the port number 443). It is recommended that you must configure all the nodes for deep discovery in a NetApp cluster. After you configure deep discovery, you can view the following information on the details page of the NetApp enclosure: Details of the enclosure such as the model, serial number, version of the Data ONTAP installed on the enclosure, the physical capacity of the enclosure, number of spare disks and the name of the partner node The physical disks on the enclosure Aggregates Array volumes LUNs Array ports Replications Note: To create both the flexible and the traditional volumes on the aggregates, you must use Data ONTAP version 7.0 or later. Traditional volumes can exist on the enclosures that have Data ONTAP 6.0 or later. Storage Insight Add-on supports the NetApp enclosures that have Data ONTAP or later. To Configure deep discovery for the NetApp enclosures 1 In the Veritas Operations Manager console, select Settings > Enclosure Management. 2 In the Enclosure Management page, click Configure New Device. 3 In the Configure Device wizard panel to specify the details of the devices, enter the required information. Click Next. 26 26 Performing the deep discovery of enclosures Removing deep discovery from a storage enclosure Removing deep discovery from a storage enclosure In Veritas Operations Manager, you can stop performing the deep discovery for a storage enclosure by removing the deep discovery configuration. After you remove the deep discovery configuration, you cannot view the following information pertaining to the enclosures in your datacenter: For a HITACHI enclosure: LDEVs (Logical Devices) PDEVs (Physical Devices) Array Groups Replications Thin Pools For a Symmetrix enclosure: Physical disks Devices Replications Thin pools For an IBM XIV enclosure: Pool Volumes Storage pools Snapshots Array ports and adapters Host associations To remove the deep discovery configuration, you must have the domain administrator privilege. To remove deep discovery configuration from a storage enclosure 1 In the Veritas Operations Manager console, select Settings > Enclosure Management. 2 In the Enclosure Management page, select the device configuration that you want to remove. You can modify all the information that you entered when you configured deep discovery for an enclosure. To modify the deep discovery configuration, you must have the domain administrator privilege. To modify the deep array discovery configuration for an enclosure 1 In the Veritas Operations Manager console, select Settings > Enclosure Management. 2 In the Enclosure Management page, select the enclosure for which you want to modify the deep discovery configuration. Click Edit Device Configuration. 3 In the Configure Device modify the configuration details to change the details of the devices. Click Next. 29 Chapter 2 Managing tiers for the LUNs This chapter includes the following topics: Creating tier definitions for LUNs Modifying the tier definitions for LUNs Deleting the tier definitions for LUNs Refreshing the tier information Modifying the tier levels Creating tier definitions for LUNs Apart from providing deeper insight on your enclosures, the Veritas Operations Manager Storage Insight Add-on for Deep Array Discovery and Mapping also lets you define the tiers for the LUNs in your datacenter. The tiering of LUNs supports the Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) which manages the data by putting them into different types of storage media according to various parameters. Apart from moving data across different storage devices, Veritas Operations Manager uses LUN tiering for provisioning the storage. Veritas Operations Manager lets you define the tiers for the LUNs based one or more of the following parameters: Enclosures Vendor and product model RAID level of a LUN Underlying media of the disk from where the LUN has been created Thin type of the LUN The replication status of the LUN

30 30 Managing tiers for the LUNs Creating tier definitions for LUNs When you define tiers for the LUNs based on these parameters, Veritas Operations Manager stores these definitions as rules in the Management Server. Veritas Operations Manager changes the tier definitions automatically when these parameters change. In certain circumstances, multiple tier definitions can be applicable to a LUN. In such cases, Veritas Operations Manager Storage Insight Add-on for Deep Array Discovery and Mapping looks for the highest order of the tier and assigns it to the LUN. To define the tiers for a LUN, you must have the domain administrator privilege. To create tier definitions for LUNs 1 In the Veritas Operations Manager console, select Settings > Enclosure Management. 2 In the Enclosure Management page, click Tier Configurations. 3 Click New Tier Definitions. 4 In the New Tier Definition panel, specify the rules. If you have already specified the RAID level, click on the RAID level to modify it. If you want to specify a new raid level, click Any and select the RAID level from the RAID Level drop-down field. When multiple tier definitions are applicable to a LUN, Veritas Operations Manager Storage Insight Add-on for Deep Array Discovery and Mapping uses the definition that appears first in this order to classify the LUN into a tier. To modify the tier levels, you must have the domain administrator privilege.
