System View There are three ways to interface with SBC: MigmaMonitor TM, a portable computer monitor with VGA connector and touch screen. This monitor can be left in the controller cabinet. A laptop using an Ethernet crossover cable (crossover cable is provided). You can find the remote login procedures in this guide. A regular desktop PC VGA monitor and USB mouse. This approach is suitable for configuration and test in the office. If the distance from the camera to pedestrian waiting area is more than 20 ft, the yellow dash should be at a location roughly 40 ft from the signal pole. If the distance from the camera to pedestrian waiting area is less than 20 ft, the yellow dash should be at a location roughly 25 ft from the signal pole. To adjust the location of yellow dash, simply adjust the stereo position until the yellow dash is at the desired location, i.e., 25 ft or 40 ft from the signal pole. Use one of three methods listed above, and connect to the SBC. Close the program (screen with yellow prints) by clicking on the exit button (X) on top of the DOS window. Configuration Once the MigmaPedCount Configurator is open, you will see the live image view. The yellow vertical lines on either side of the images show the area covered by the laser, which is about -30 to +30. The dashed red line with one yellow dash in vertical position is the mark of the center of image. The MigmaPedCount Configurator also lets the user specify the pedestrian walking direction along the crosswalk. To configure this walking direction, please follow the steps below: Step 1: Click on Angle in the lower right corner. This will open a new window, PedAngle. Step 2: To draw the walking direction, the user must click two points using the stylus or mouse on the PedAngle window. A solid yellow line will appear connecting these two points and an angle representing the expected walking direction will be calculated (there is no order in which the points have to be clicked). Once the PedAngle is configured it will then be updated in the configuration file as the PedAngle variable. This will Page 1
be used by the MigmaPedCount system and will be used to validate pedestrian tracks. Note: When drawing the zone the first point must start at the upper left and go clockwise. Using the mouse or stylus, click on the upper left corner to start configuring the zone. Zone Configuration To configure the zone in which pedestrians will be detected and counted, click on the ZONE button. This will open another window that will allow the user to configure the desired zone coverage. Next click the upper right corner, going clockwise. You will see a line connecting these two points. Once the window is open, click on the Draw Zone button. The zone is a 4-point configuration. To start drawing the zone, you must click the starting point in the window with the zone. Click the lower right corner and you will see a second white line connecting the points. Page 2
When you click on the final point, you need to double click on it. This zone will be shown. After completing the zone configuration, double click inside the zone you just configured. The zone will then show color green. This will update the appropriate files in the system and the zone that will be used to detect and count pedestrians unless it is changed. Once the Parameter Configuration is open you will see four sections. The first section is for count and image configuration. The user may select where to send the data such as images and counts information. It may be saved to a remote server, or locally to an external USB drive, or both. Once you selected where to save the pedestrian counts all other fields will then be enabled. Camera Height The height requirement for the stereo camera can range from 8 to 13 feet. If possible, please mount the camera at 8 feet high. Otherwise, mount the camera higher, but no more than 13 ft. Parameter Configuration The Parameter Configuration allows the user to configure the Counting Configuration (if the user would like to save the pedestrian count it offers options as to where the data will be saved), IP address and location of the system. If you do choose to save the data to the server, a valid IP address is required so the counting data from the system can be sent. To open the Parameter Configuration click on the Config button in the lower right screen. Page 3
The next section that is highlighted in red is the location of the system. You enter the location information that will be used to organize the pedestrian counts and associated images saved locally and/or remotely. Simply click on the Configure button to add the State, City, Intersection and Corner names. Entry lines have a space limit of 20 characters. The last question in the first section asks the user if the range to the crosswalk is Close or Far. If the distance from the signal pole on which the camera is mounted to the waiting area is less than 20 feet, select Close. If the distance is more than 20 feet from the signal pole to the waiting area, please select Far. When you are done, please click on the Save button to save the location information entered. Controller Configuration If the user requires the functionality of the system to communicate with the controller, simply click the box to the left to enable communication. Once this has been enabled you will see that the fields are now highlighted. To communicate with the controller a valid controller IP address and port number must be entered. The vehicle and pedestrian phase must also be entered in order for the system to retrieve the correct signal phase information. Once the information in all highlighted fields has been entered, user may close the window by clicking the Done button. Currently MigmaPedCount TM only supports Econolite ACS/3 controller. Through using NTCIP protocol, it is possible that MigmaPedCount TM can interface with other controllers as well. Page 4
REMEMBER: Whenever you configure the system, you must click on the Save icon to save the configuration and reboot the system. Otherwise your configuration changes will NOT be saved. Remote Login Configuration While the Parameter Configuration window is open, the main Configurator window continues running in the background. Once the user has configured the desired parameters, click the Resume button so all configurations can be updated. Before logging into SBC, you should configure your laptop that you will use to connect to SBC with crossover Ethernet cable. Follow the steps below: Open Properties of Local Area Connection in Network Connections in Control Panel Now that you have finished the configuration and ready to have the system operational, you MUST save the configuration data to the disk inside SBC. Open Properties of Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) To do this, on the desktop screen, Double Click on Save icon The system will then save the data and automatically reboot. The system will use the new configuration data for the pedestrian detection and counting. Page 5
Select Use the following IP address and enter the following network information: o IP address: o Subnet mask: o Default gateway: Select Use the following DNS server addresses: o Preferred DNS server: Click on OK button to finish configuration of local area connection. Remote Access Open Remote Desktop Connection in Windows Enter in Computer Click Connect button A remote desktop login window appears. Enter the following information: Username: administrator Password: migmasys Click on OK button to access the SBC. Page 6
