1 Avaya Solution & Interoperability Test Lab Application Notes for Configuring GFI FaxMaker with Avaya IP Office Issue 1.0 Abstract These Application Notes contains interoperability instructions for configuring GFI FaxMaker with Avaya IP Office. Compliance testing was conducted to verify the interoperability. Testing was performed using Avaya IP Office 500 V2 R8.1, but it also applies to Avaya IP Office Server Edition R8.1 (single site configuration only). Information in these Application Notes has been obtained through DevConnect compliance testing and additional technical discussions. Testing was conducted via the DevConnect Program at the Avaya Solution and Interoperability Test Lab. 1 of 38

2 1. Introduction GFI FaxMaker fax server software solution for small to medium-sized businesses. It allows users to send and receive faxes directly from their client and it saves each fax digitally for easier filing and finding. GFI FaxMaker is configured to communicate with Avaya IP Office using SIP. 2. General Test Approach and Test Results This section details the general approach used to verify the interoperability between GFI FaxMaker and Avaya IP Office, and the test results. DevConnect Compliance Testing is conducted jointly by Avaya and DevConnect members. The jointly-defined test plan focuses on exercising APIs and/or standards-based interfaces pertinent to the interoperability of the tested products and their functionalities. DevConnect Compliance Testing is not intended to substitute full product performance or feature testing performed by DevConnect members, nor is it to be construed as an endorsement by Avaya of the suitability or completeness of a DevConnect member s solution Interoperability Compliance Testing General test approach was to test fax calls in an inter-site and intra-site environment. As displayed in the reference configuration, GFI FaxMaker was connected to Site 1, main enterprise site, and site 2 serves as a simulated PSTN or a remote enterprise site. Inter-site calls were made over an ISDN-PRI trunk. Faxes were sent with various page lengths, resolution and at various fax data speeds Test Results All executed test cases were passed Support Visit for support queries related to GFI FaxMaker. 2 of 38

Reference Configuration Test configuration consisted of two sites, connected via ISDN-PRI trunk. GFI FaxMaker was connected to IP Office in Site 1 via a SIP trunk. Equipment and Software Validated The following equipment and software were used for the sample configuration provided: Equipment/Software Release/Version Avaya IP Office 500 V GFI FaxMaker running on Windows Version 15.0 Build Server 2008 R2 TE-SYSTEMS XCAPI Microsoft Exchange Server of 38

4 5. Configure Avaya IP Office This section describes the Avaya IP Office configuration to support Site1 in the network shown in Figure 1. Although not shown is this document, a similar Avaya IP Office configuration would be required at Site 2. The configuration of Avaya IP Office system was performed using the Avaya IP Office Manager application. Once completed the Avaya IP Office Manager Configuration must be saved and uploaded to the IP Office System. This process may sometimes force a system reboot. The Avaya IP Office configuration includes following sections: Connect to IP Office using Manager Verify IP Office Control Unit Verify IP Office Licenses Configure System Parameters Configure IP Office SIP Line Configure Short Codes o Routing to the GFI FaxMaker Configure Incoming Call Routes o Calls Received on the SIP Line Saving IP Office Configuration 5.1. Connect to IP Office using Manager From a Windows PC, open Manager. Location of the Manager will vary depending on the Windows Operating System. For Windows XP, navigate to Start All Programs IP Office Manager 4 of 38

5 5.2. Verify IP Office Control Unit From the configuration tree in the navigation pane on the left, navigate to IP 500 V2 as shown in the screen shot below. Verify Unit Type and Version. During compliance test Avaya IP Office 500 V2 hardware with version 8.1 software was used. 5 of 38

6 5.3. Verify IP Office Licenses From the left pane, expand License and highlight SIP Trunk Channels, as shown in the screen capture. Verify the License Status field displays Valid and there are sufficient Instances for the number of SIP Trunk channels that are required. Each SIP Trunk requires a SIP Trunk Channel license. 6 of 38

7 5.4. Configure System Parameters From the left pane, expand System then highlight LAN1 in the right pane. From this page the LAN Settings and VoIP tabs will need to be configured LAN Settings It is assumed that LAN Setting has already been pre-configured VoIP From the VoIP tab. Verify that the SIP Trunks Enable box is checked. 7 of 38

8 5.5. Configure IP Office SIP Line From the left pane, right click on Line, and select New SIP Line to all add a SIP trunk for GFI FaxMaker. 8 of 38

9 Under SIP Line tab, check box for Caller ID from From header. 9 of 38

10 Under Trasnsport tab, in ITSP Proxy Address, type in the IP address of GFI FaxMaker. 10 of 38

11 Under SIP URI, click Add button on the right side to add SIP Channels to GFI FaxMaker. In Incoming Group and Outgoing Group, type in the SIP Line number that is currently being configured. Set the number of Max Calls per Channel. During compliance test, 10 Max Calls per Channel was used. Click OK to save. 11 of 38

12 Under VoIP tab, for Fax Transport Support, select T38. Check box for Re-invite Supported. At the bottom of the window, click OK, to save the configuration for SIP Line. 12 of 38

13 5.6. Configure Short Code for routing to GFI FaxMaker From the left pane, right click on Short Code and select New. 13 of 38

14 The configured short code will route calls to GFI FaxMaker when any number starting with 2 is dialed: Type in 2N; in Code field. Set Feature to Dial Type in where IP_Address is the IP Address of GFI FaxMaker Type in the number of SIP Line that was configured earlier in this section, in Line Group ID field. 14 of 38

15 5.7. Configure Incoming Call Routes From the left pane, right click on Incoming Call Route, and select New. 15 of 38

16 Under Standard tab, configure the following: Bearer Capability = Any Line Group ID = Line Group ID of the SIP Line (17) Use default values for all other fields. 16 of 38

17 Under Destionations tab, configured the following: Under Destination column, type in a dot,. This will allow to route incoming call based on the number that was dialed 17 of 38

18 5.8. Saving IP Office Configuration Once the configuration changes have been completed, select the floppy disk icon to push the changes to the IP Office system. Note: Changes will not take effect until this step is completed. This may cause a reboot of Avaya IP Office causing service disruption. 18 of 38

19 6. Configure GFI FaxMaker During compliance testing, GFI FaxMaker used XCAPI by TE-SYSTEMS for receiving and sending faxes. This section contains configuration steps for XCAPI and GFI FaxMaker Configure XCAPI Open XCAPI configuration on the server where GFI FaxMaker is installed, Start All Programs XCAPI XCAPI Configuration. 19 of 38

20 Under Controller, click on Click here to add a controller. 20 of 38

21 Select Add Voice-over-IP Controller, and click Next. Click Next. 21 of 38

22 From the list, select Avaya IP Office 8.0 and click Next. Select SIP, and click Next. 22 of 38

23 Type in the IP Address of IP Office, and click Next. Type in a Description and number of Lines, and click Next. 23 of 38

26 From the left pane, Navigate to Controller Avaya IP Office 8.0, and select the Features tab. Uncheck the boxes as shown in the screen capture. Click Floppy Disk icon to save the configuration. Click OK to confirm restart of CAPI application. 26 of 38

27 6.2. Configure GFI FaxMaker Open GFI FaxMaker Configuration on the server where it is installed, by navigating Start All Programs GFI FaxMaker GFI FaxMaker Configuration. 27 of 38

28 Add a fax line On the left pane, navigate to Lines/Devices as shown in the screen capture and click on Properties. On the Properties window, click on Add (not shown). On the Add fax line window, select an available fax line and ISDN PRI/IP CAPI 2.0 devices for Device type. Click OK. 28 of 38

29 On the Device ISDN window, select TE-SYSTEMS XCAPI for ISDN type, click OK. To add more lines, repeat this step again. If no more lines need to be added, click OK on the Add fax line window. Restart of GFI FaxMaker services is required to save these changes. 29 of 38

30 Add Users On the GFI FaxMaker Configuration window, navigate to Licensed Users as shown in the screen capture. Click on New Licensed user/group to add a user. Type in the name of the user in Enter the object names to select and click Check Names. Please note that this user must exist in Microsoft Active Directory. Click OK to add the user. 30 of 38

31 Configure Routing On the GFI FaxMaker Configuration window, navigate to DTMF/DID as shown in the screen capture. Click on New to add a route. On the DTMF/DID Route(s) window: Type in a single extension to add a route, e.g Type in multiple extensions with ; as delimiter, e.g ;29005; Type in a range, e.g Click OK to save changes. During compliance testing IP Office was configured to route 29xxx to GFI FaxMaker. 31 of 38

32 To associate an extension to a user for receiving faxes, double click on a route and click on Add as shown in the screen capture. 32 of 38

33 Type in name of the user in Enter the object names to select and click on Check Names, click OK. Click OK on the route properties window to save changes. 33 of 38

34 7. Verification Steps 7.1. IP Office The following steps may be used to verify the configuration: Using IP Office Manager, navigate to File Advanced System Status (Not shown). The following screen will be displayed. Enter the appropriate credentials and click Logon. 34 of 38

35 Navigate to Trunks SIP Trunk in the left pane. Select and verify the status of each trunk used in the configuration. SIP Trunk is the SIP trunk that was configured for GFI FaxMaker. Current State of all Channels should be idle. 35 of 38

36 7.2. GFI FaxMaker On the GFI FaxMaker configuration window, navigate to Lines/Devices Properties (not shown). Open Properties for Line 1 (added in Section 6.2.1). On the Device ISDN window, click on Line test tab. Type in a number in the Fax number to dial field to send a test fax. 36 of 38

37 8. Conclusion GFI FaxMaker passed compliance testing.
