2 I. OVERVIEW FIGURE 1: NETWORKED INSTALLATION EXAMPLE Lighting Network (Ethernet cable and ZigBee / wireless) Enterprise Network (Ethernet cable) Electrical Power Room VAC VAC Wireless Network One: Up to 50 lights Room VAC Wireless Network Two: Up to 50 lights Gateway Keypad OFF Wireless Network Three: Up to 50 lights Gateway Keypad Gateway OFF VAC VAC PoE Switch 328 ft (100 m) maximum PoE Switch LightRules Appliance VAC UPS Enterprise Network LightRules Appliance LIGHTRULES INSTALLATION OVERVIEW LightRules Web Application LightRules software resides on the LightRules Appliance (LRA). The appliance also manages the dedicated lighting network containing the wireless light fixtures and gateways. HINT: Before arriving on-site for the installation, ask the enterprise s IT team to complete the IT Worksheet, which records relevant IP addresses, SMTP settings, and permissions for a remote support connection (if allowed). Download the IT Worksheet here: digitallumens.zendesk.com. Networked versus Standalone Installations There are two types of LightRules Installations: In networked installations, as shown in the example above, the LRA connects to the facility s enterprise network. LightRules is accessible via any web browser connected to the enterprise network. Some LightRules systems are operated by customers locally without a connection to the enterprise network, making LightRules only accessible from the LRA (requires connecting a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to the LRA). This is referred to as Standalone Console Mode. As noted on the following pages, some instructions are not applicable to setting up a standalone system. NEW Administrators can select the standalone option by opening LightRules and selecting Administration > Network and then clicking Edit in the Network Configuration section. On the Edit Network Settings screen, select Standalone Console Mode. Performing this step simplifies configuration of the LRA by hiding options that are only used with an enterprise connection. 2 Digital Lumens
3 II. INSTALLING THE LIGHTRULES APPLIANCE PART 1: PREPARE FOR INSTALLATION LightRules installation requires a completed map file. Before arriving onsite, use Digital Lumens Commissioner software to create a map file. You can download Commissioner software and the Commissioner Admin Guide from the Partner Portal. 1. Before arriving onsite, ask the facility IT team to complete and sign the IT Worksheet. 2. Coordinate with a Digital Lumens Application Engineer to establish a remote connection to the LRA. 3. Work with Digital Lumens Application Engineering to schedule an initial remote support time slot. 4. Create an installation kit comprising a laptop, a Digital Lumens USB wireless adapter, an Ethernet cable tester, a portable Ethernet switch (either PoE or Non-PoE) and three 3 ft Cat-5 cables. 5. Once onsite, locate the IT Room the lighting network Cat-5 cable should terminate in that room and you will be installing the LRA there (in most instances). 6. Verify that it is possible to connect to the Enterprise network via a Cat-5 cable located in the IT room, but do not connect. PART 2: SET UP HARDWARE & CONNECT THE NETWORK 1. As needed, connect the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) battery into the UPS housing, as per the manufacturer s instructions. Plug the supplied UPS into a dedicated wall outlet. Do not plug the UPS into a power strip. NOTE: A standard UPS is sold by Digital Lumens for North American sites only. Outside of North America, procure a UPS locally. 2. If the LRA is a rack-mount model, install the LRA within a suitable cabinet. Otherwise, if the LRA is a table-top model, place the LRA in a secure location. 3. Connect power from the LRA to the UPS. 4. Power up the UPS and then press the power button on the front of the LRA. 5. Connect the lighting network Cat-5 cable to the portable switch from your installation kit. With a 3 ft Cat-5 cable, connect the switch to the port on the LRA labeled Lighting Network. 6. With a 3 ft Cat-5 cable, connect the laptop from your kit to the switch. NOTE: The switch, 3 ft Cat-5 cables, and laptop will be removed once system configuration is complete. 7. If you are setting up a networked installation, connect the enterprise network Cat-5 cable directly to the corresponding Ethernet port on the LRA. Otherwise, if you are setting up a standalone installation, skip this step. 4 PART 3: EDIT NETWORK CONFIGURATION SETTINGS Wait 90 seconds after powering up the LRA. 1. Turn off Wi-Fi on the laptop. 2. Launch a web browser on the laptop and then type in the address bar. The Editing Network Settings screen should appear automatically. If you cannot connect via , verify that the laptop s network Ethernet port is configured for DHCP and then try again. NOTE: By default, after the first power-up, you are initially logged in as Installer. If you are not automatically logged in as Installer (verify by looking in the upper-right corner of the LightRules dashboard), contact Digital Lumens technical support. 3. Click Administration and then select Users. CAUTION: You must perform this step now, or you will not be able to login to LightRules later after logging out. Create a new user account to use during installation. For example: Create an account named Configuration. Choose Set a password now, enter a password, and write down your settings. Select Reporting, Operations, and Administration privileges. 4. Click Create User. 5. (Skip this step if creating a standalone installation) Click Administration, select Network, and then click Edit in the Network Configuration section. NOTE: Do not make changes to the Miscellaneous Settings fields unless directed to do so by a Digital Lumens Applications Engineer. Referring to the IT Worksheet, specify the LRA IP address to be used on the lighting network: Leave the default IP address intact, unless the Enterprise network uses x.x. If the Enterprise network uses x.x., Select the alternate IP address from the drop-down menu. If you select the alternate IP address, you will need to reconnect to the LRA after saving this change. Re-establish your IP address using DHCP, and connect to the LRA at the IP address You will have to sign in using the name and password you established in the previous step. 6. (Skip this step if creating a standalone installation) Referring to the IT Worksheet, enter the following Enterprise network settings: Enterprise Network IP Address Enterprise Network Netmask Enterprise Network Default gateway 7. NEW (Skip this step if creating a standalone installation) Select the Custom DNS Servers checkbox, if applicable, in the Advanced Configuration section.
