5 Getting Started with the DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere Abut the DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere The DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere autmates and simplifies the creatin and cnfiguratin f a DataCre Server virtual machine running SANsymphny sftware n ne r mre ESXi hsts in a vsphere envirnment, such as in a DataCre Hypercnverged Virtual SAN. The deplyment prcess creates the DataCre Server virtual machines accrding t specificatins n each selected ESXi hst, installs the Windws perating system, VMware tls, and SANsymphny sftware, creates prts and defines prt rles, adds all DataCre Server virtual machines t the same SANsymphny server grup, and registers the vcenter in SANsymphny. Imprtant Ntes: Read the Release Ntes prvided with ur sftware fr imprtant infrmatin and ensure all prerequisites are met. System requirements fr DataCre Servers can be fund n the DataCre Web site. The DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere, when deplying DataCre Server virtual machines, autmatically cnfigures the fllwing iscsi ptimizatins which are utlined in iscsi Best Practices (FAQ 1626) n the Technical Supprt Hme page at Changes the TcpAckFrequency registry key - see the Disable Delay ACK sectin. Access t the vcenter address must be prvided by lgging in with vcenter administratr accunt credentials (IP address r fully qualified dmain name). The cnnectin uses prt 7444 as a default, but any prt can be specified as shwn in the fllwing instructins. Ensure that the prt used t cnnect is unblcked by firewalls. Ensure the vcenter Server has SSO (Single Sign On) enabled. During the deplyment prcess, sme additinal firewall prts will be pened fr SANsymphny sftware t functin prperly n the DataCre Server virtual machine. See Windws Security Settings Disclsure fr mre infrmatin. If using netwrk firewalls, ensure access t the required prts. Each DataCre Server virtual machine will be created with ne management prt, tw target prts, and ne mirrr prt in the deplyment prcess. The prts are named t indicate their rle, such as SSV Management, Mirrr 1, Frnt-end Target 1, and Frnt-end Target 2. Additinal prts may be added after the DataCre Server virtual machines have been deplyed. Sme default values fr DataCre Server virtual machine parameters are prvided in the wizard. These can be changed as lng as the minimum requirements are met. 1

6 DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere After the deplyment prcess is cmplete, the hypervisr hst (ESXi hst) setting in SANsymphny sftware must be assigned fr each DataCre Server virtual machine in rder t serve virtual disks directly t the ESXi hst. The hypervisr hst is assigned in the DataCre Server Details page under the Settings tab fr each DataCre Server virtual machine. This shuld be perfrmed prir t serving virtual disks. The lg vspheredeplymentlg.txt is created in the wizard installatin flder C:\Prgram Files\DataCre\DeplymentWizardfrvSphere the first time that the wizard is run. This lg prvides a histry f the deplyment including: virtual machine parameters that were entered in the wizard, any errrs that ccurred while running the wizard and during deplyment, the names f DataCre Server virtual machines and the hsts n which they were created, and the prgress f the deplyment. Infrmatin is appended each subsequent time the wizard is run. Tw lgs are created n the DataCre Server virtual machines during deplyment. The lg datacrewizardinstall.txt cntains a histry f the cnfiguratin f the DataCre Server virtual machine and the ptimizatins that were perfrmed. The lg datacrewizardnetwrk.txt cntains a histry f the netwrk cnfiguratin. These lgs are saved in the flder C:\Windws\Temp. If the deplyment prcess fails fr any reasn befre cmpletin, clse the wizard, and then restart the prcess frm the beginning. Running the Wizard 1) After installing the DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere executable, entering the credentials t cnnect t the vcenter server and authenticating these credentials, the wizard will be launched. 2) Nte: if there are multiple vcenter datacenters available, a Datacenter Selectin dialg bx will pp up. Select a datacenter t cntinue. 3) In the DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere panel, select r enter the desired Virtual Machine (VM) parameters: a. Server Memry (minimum f 2 GB; 8 GB is recmmended), 2

7 DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere b. Server Disk Size (minimum f 50 GB) c. Virtual Sckets and Cres per scket (minimum f ne each). A minimum f ne scket with tw cres r tw sckets with ne cre are required. A ttal f fur cres are recmmended (ne scket and fur cres, r tw sckets with tw cres). d. Server Name Prefix This will precede each created VM name and a randm number will be appended t the prefix t frm the virtual machine name. This will als be used as the VM s Windws Server name. e. Time Zne that the DataCre Server VMs will run in. f. Administratr Passwrd. Nte: this passwrd will be used fr bth the lcal Windws Administratr and as the DCSadmin passwrd n the DataCre Servers. Enter it a secnd time t cnfirm. The DcsAdmin accunt is a lcal administratr accunt created fr the use f DataCre service accunts required fr SANsymphny sftware. The passwrd will be identical n all DataCre Server virtual machines created in this wizard sessin. (Passwrds fr all DataCre Server virtual machines in the same server grup must be the same.) 4) Cnfigure the netwrk infrmatin by identifying the netwrk mask and the starting IP addresses fr each netwrk. One management prt, tw target prts, and ne mirrr prt will be created fr each DataCre Server VM. The IP addresses assigned will begin with the starting IP address and each additinal DataCre Server virtual machine created will have a cnsecutive address fr this prt. Fr example, if three DataCre Server virtual machines are being created, three cnsecutive addresses shuld be available fr use fr the Management Netwrk, anther three addresses available fr the Mirrr Netwrk, and six cnsecutive IP addresses are required fr the tw Target Netwrks. If the starting IP address fr the Management Netwrk is and three DataCre Server virtual machines are being created, then the IP addresses frm t are required and shuld be available fr use. Checking the ptinal DHCP checkbx will autmatically cnfigure the management netwrk infrmatin. Nte: The netwrk IP addresses must fllw the slash ntatin frmat, fr example: /21). Slash ntatin is used in ruting t determine the number f bits used fr netwrk addressing. IPV4 addressing has a ttal f 32 bits, s in the example, "/24" is the number f bits reserved fr netwrk addressing, leaving 8 bits fr hsts addresses, which allws fr 256 hsts. Nte: /0 is an invalid ptin. 5) Enter the Default Gateway and Default DNS Server IP addresses. 6) Enter r select the Installatin Parameters. a. Windws ISO Datastre - select the shared datastre that cntains the ISO image f the Windws Server perating system. b. Temp Files Datastre - select the shared datastre where the ISO image f SANsymphny sftware is t be temprarily stred until virtual machine deplyment is cmplete. The image will be deleted after deplyment is cmplete c. The Windws ISO File lcatin must be entered manually, and must be the full path f the datastre and the ISO image name f the Windws Server perating system n the shared datastre. d. Optinally, enter a valid Windws Server Key. This step may be skipped and a license key may be activated at a later time. 7) Select a datastre frm the vcenter Inventry fr each ESXi hst n which a DataCre Server virtual machine will be created. Expand each ESXi hst and select the datastre, 3

8 DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere then click ADD >>. The hst and datastre will be listed in the Deply T Hsts bx. Cntinue adding all the hsts and datastres t deply t. All DataCre Server virtual machines that are created will be added t the same server grup. T und hst selectins, chse the hsts in the Deply T Hsts bx and click << REMOVE. 4

9 DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere 8) Click Deply t begin the prcess f deplying the DataCre Server virtual machines. After cnfirming the cnfiguratin, Micrsft Windws will be installed. Next, the Deplyment Prgress windw will pen and shw the current step f the deplyment prcess fr all DataCre Server virtual machines being created. The deplyment f all DataCre Server virtual machine instances ccurs in parallel. 5

10 DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere In vcenter, DataCre Server virtual machines will be created, cnfigured and pwered n. Nte: Deplyment may take sme time because the prcess perfrms several steps: creates the VMs, installs the Windws perating system, VMware tls, and SANsymphny sftware, and perfrms subsequent cnfiguratin n the server grup in SANsymphny sftware. When the prcess is cmplete, the Finish buttn will be enabled. An installatin lg (vspheredeplymentlg.txt) is updated with prgress infrmatin, as well. Mnitr the prgress f the deplyment tasks. If the deplyment des nt cmplete within a reasnable amunt f time, cnnect t the virtual machines thrugh vcenter and check the status. Nte: If the installatin fails fr any reasn befre cmpletin, clse the wizard, and then restart the prcedure frm the beginning. Adding Additinal DataCre Virtual Machines Nte: Additinal DataCre Server virtual machines may be deplyed as needed by repeating the abve steps. A pp-up will be displayed t check fr deplyed DataCre Server virtual machines and indicate whether new nes are discvered. Befre deplyment begins, a secnd pp-up will be displayed asking fr cnfirmatin that the new DataCre Server virtual machines are t be added t the existing Server Grup. Starting SANsymphny sftware n the DataCre Server virtual machines: Perfrm these steps n a DataCre Server virtual machine r frm a remte DataCre Management Cnsle. 1 Click the SANsymphny desktp shrtcut. 6

11 DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere 2 Refer t Cnnecting t a Server Grup in this guide t cnnect t the server grup and begin using the sftware. Use the lcal Administratr accunt r the DcsAdmin accunt that was created during the installatin. 3 After cnnecting t the management cnsle, pen the SANsymphny Help frm the Ribbn>Hme tab. The Help pens t the Welcme tpic. Click the link t the Getting Started tpic which will guide yu in perfrming additinal cnfiguratin. (If the server has n Internet access, pen the Lcal Help frm the Apps Menu.) 7

12 DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere Starting SANsymphny n the DataCre Server Virtual Machines Cnnecting t a Server Grup In this tpic: Abut cnnecting t server grups Credentials Cnnecting t a server grup Cnnectin status Abut Cnnecting t Server Grups The DataCre Management Cnsle allws users t establish a TCP sessin frm any cmputer running the DataCre Management Cnsle cmpnent, which is used t cnfigure and manage servers running SANsymphny sftware. Once cnnected t a server in a server grup, strage cnfiguratin and management can be perfrmed fr all servers in the server grup frm a single cnsle. Multiple server grups can als be managed frm the same management cnsle by allwing cnnectins t servers in lcal and remte server grups. Administratrs can easily manage multiple server grups frm the same cnsle. All cnnectins made lcally frm the same cnsle are saved per user and displayed in the Server Grup Cnnectins Panel when the same user pens the cnsle. DataCre Servers (including Replicatin partners) require functining name reslutin t reslve cmputer names t IP addresses. T ensure prper cmmunicatin and data transfer, verify that crrect name reslutin exists. If using a HOSTS file, the names in the file shuld be identical t the cmputer name, including case. Credentials Windws perating system credentials are used t cnnect t DataCre Servers: Credentials can be dmain-wide r lcal (wrkgrup). When cnnecting t a server which is part f a grup, user credentials will be authenticated n each server in the grup. The same user accunts and passwrds (dmain r lcal) must exist n all servers running SANsymphny sftware in a server grup. If using the lcal Administratr accunt, passwrds must als match n all servers in the grup. This als applies when cnnecting between lcal and remte server grups; t ensure prper functining f the sftware, the same user accunts must exist n all servers in bth lcal and remte grups. Users must als be registered in the DataCre Management Cnsle with user names that are identical t Windws perating system user accunts. This als applies when cnnecting between lcal and remte server grups; users shuld be registered in bth lcal and remte grups. 8

13 DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere Special ntes abut cnnecting after installatin fr the first time: After installatin and befre users are registered in SANsymphny sftware, the nly user accunts that can be used t cnnect t a server grup and gain access t the DataCre Management Cnsle is The Administratr accunt r the DcsAdmin accunt that was created during installatin. Use the same accunt and passwrd fr all servers in the server grup. This is because users must be registered in the sftware in rder t gain access t it. During installatin, a lcal server grup is autmatically created and the server that yu cnnect t is the sle member f that server grup. (After cnnecting t the server grup, additinal cnfiguratin can be perfrmed, such as adding mre DataCre Servers t the same server grup. Cnnecting t a Server Grup Cnnecting t a server grup establishes a TCP sessin t cmmunicate with the DataCre Executive Service (Dcsx.exe), which prvides cre management and cnfiguratin services fr servers running SANsymphny sftware. When cnnected, all servers in the server grup can be accessed frm the same cnsle. Cnnectin infrmatin entered in the dialg bx belw is saved lcally by user which eliminates the need t re-enter the infrmatin. Passwrds can als be remembered if indicated in the dialg bx. Remembered passwrds are encrypted. T cnnect t a server grup: 1 When the DataCre Management Cnsle is pened, the Cnnect t Server Grup dialg bx pens. 2 In the dialg bx, enter the name r IP address f the DataCre Server t cnnect t r select it frm the pull-dwn menu. This entry defines hw cmmunicatins will ccur between servers, thrugh server name r specific IP address. If the server name r IP address is nt prvided, a lcalhst cnnectin is assumed. S if cnnecting t the same server yu are currently using, the name r IP address is nt necessary. 9

14 DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere We highly recmmend using hst names instead f IP addresses. IP addresses can be determined frm hst names regardless f changes t the IP addresses. Fr new installatins and befre users are registered, use the lcal Administratr accunt r the DcsAdmin accunt that was created during the installatin. Use the same accunt fr all servers in the server grup. 3 T lgin t the server using the same credentials that were used when lgging int Windws, select the Use default credentials check bx. Otherwise, clear the check bx and enter the required authrized credentials. (If credentials are dmain-wide, include the dmain with the name fr example: DOMAIN\user name.) 4 Select the Remember passwrd check bx t remember the passwrd fr the user name. 5 Click Cnnect. A message will appear n the dialg bx that the management cnsle is attempting t cnnect t the server. When the cnnectin has been successfully cmpleted the dialg bx will clse. Cnnectin Status The cnnectin status between the management cnsle and the server is displayed n the left in the status bar at the bttm f the management cnsle. Status: Cnnected - Indicates that there is a cnnectin between the management cnsle and the server. Discnnected - Indicates that there is n cmmunicatin between the management cnsle and the server. Try recnnecting t the server again. (The Cnnect t Server Grup dialg bx can als be pened frm the Ribbn>Cmmn Actins tab in the management cnsle.) 10

15 DataCre Deplyment Wizard fr vsphere Appendix Windws Security Settings Disclsure In rder t allw SANsymphny sftware t functin prperly and DataCre Servers t cmmunicate, certain Windws perating system settings are autmatically changed during the SANsymphny sftware installatin. The installatin nly makes the minimum Windws security changes required. Althugh security settings are changed, they are never disabled. Belw are the specific changes perfrmed t the Windws security settings during the installatin: Operating system firewall rules are added t allw DataCre Executive Service, DataCre Supprt Service, DataCre Management Cnsle, and DataCre iscsi cmmunicatins. (Specific firewall rules can be viewed in Server Manager>Windws Firewall.) A lcal administratr accunt DataCre Executive Service with lgn as service privileges (user name DcsAdmin) is created exclusively fr services in SANsymphny sftware. D nt delete the accunt. TCP and UDP Prts In rder fr the sftware t functin prperly, sme prts must be pen: Prt 3793 is used by the DataCre Executive Service (Dcsx.exe) t cmmunicate and transfer data between DataCre Servers (lcally and in Remte Replicatins), and t cmmunicate between Management Cnsles and DataCre Servers. Ensure these machines can accmmdate traffic between them based n yur netwrk cnfiguratin and taking int cnsideratin any firewalls. Prt 3793 is used fr autmatic license activatin and t uplad supprt bundles t DataCre Custmer Supprt. If prt 3793 is unavailable, prt 80 can be used fr autmatic license activatin, but nt t uplad supprt bundles. T use these features, an utbund firewall rule may be required. Prt 3260 is used fr iscsi cmmunicatins. Ensure machines using iscsi can accmmdate traffic between them based n yur netwrk cnfiguratin. Prt 137 (Windws NetBIOS prt) is required t reslve hstnames. Windws perating system cannt reslve hstnames when the NetBIOS prt is blcked by a firewall; NetBIOS is disabled. This prt needs t be pen n any DataCre Server r cmputer running the DataCre Management Cnsle that uses hstnames (nt FQDN) t cnnect t the server grup. Open the prt in any necessary firewalls. Prts 161 and 162 are used fr SNMP supprt. Prts will be handled by Windws perating system as part f the Windws SNMP package. 11

Technical supprt f prducts ther than thse manufactured by DataCre Sftware Crpratin shall be the sle respnsibility f the end-user r installer.
