1 LAUNCH Wifi Setup Procedure The Launch GDS can be updated via a wireless internet connection as well as by USB or cat5 cable. If you are in a wifi hotspot or have an open network available simply choose the desired one and press Link from the wifi settings and the GDS will connect to it. In order to connect the GDS to your personal home/work wifi connection you need to know your network verifier; this means you need to know how your wifi network is setup. Without this information you will not be able to connect the GDS onto a protected wifi connection. If you do not know what you wifi settings are then you need to contact your system administrator or internet service provider for further assistance, Launch UK do not know how your wifi network has been set or what your password is. The GDS always prefers default router settings, i.e no security or encryption being set, so it is an open network that can be joined by anyone. In most cases a wifi network is protected by a unique password and is encrypted. The GDS will connect to a secure connection but you will have to manually configure the settings. 2 1.1 - Setting up a wifi network Click on Wi-Fi settings and then press OK From main menu click on settings Once in the wifi settings, the GDS will start to search for available wireless connections

3 The signal strength is shown by the amount of bars, with more being strong and less being weak Once the GDS finds available networks, they will be displayed in a list. Click on the Link button to connect to your selected network. A password prompt screen will ask you to input the network password

4 Note: If you are connecting to an Open wifi network then there is no need for a password nor will the GDS ask you one. The GDS will only ask for a password to connect when trying to link onto any protected connection for the first time. You can input your password at the prompt screen but without the network being configured on the GDS, it will not establish a proper connection. The network details are required to configure the GDS settings accordingly Indentifying your wireless network If you have forgotten your network settings or don t know what they are, the easiest way to obtain this information is to connect your laptop or PC to the preferred wireless network and view properties of the connection. Security type: (Open, WEP, WPA, WPA2) Encryption type: (AES, TKIP) Network security key: (password) So the example wifi security type is, WPA2-Personal Encryption type is, AES A network security key has been set Find below an example;

5 1.3 - Network configuration Click on Adv. and then Network config. You can now use this information on the GDS and configure the network as necessary; Network name (SSID) is the wifi name. / In this example Dukenet Network verifying is the type of connection, WEP, WPA, WPA2. / In this example WPA2 Data encryption is either AES or TKIP. / In this example AES Network secret key is the wifi password as set by whoever set the wireless network up Secret key index, should be 1 as set by default Supply the secret key automatically, should be UNSELECTED i.e no tick in the box Connect automatically, should be SELECTED so the wifi connects when GDS is in range Once the settings have been entered on the GDS Wifi configuration, press OK.

6 1.4 - Preferred network Click on Adv. and then Network config. You can now use this information on the GDS and configure the network as necessary; The desired network can be chosen from the menu and then press OK. Otherwise it can be moved up and down the list, edited or deleted. From this screen you can also add a new network if you wish to do so. This screen will show previous wifi connections that it can remember having a connection with, so if you was ever there again it would automatically connect to that network. Hence you are able to move the desired network up/down the list. In this case I would choose Dukenet and press OK.

7 2.1 - Connection status If the wifi connection is displaying Manual, Limited or disconnected it means that the GDS is trying to secure a connection but the finer details are incorrect hence no connection. You need to ensure that all wifi configuration and settings have been set correctly. Once the settings are correct the status will change to Connected and the wifi radar will display the strength of the signal. Click on Network Test from system settings and press OK

8 2.2 - Network Test This will now check the network configuration and the X431 website for an internet connection If the wifi network has been set correctly then the GDS will successfully complete the network test
