2 1.0 Introduction 1.1 Overview Business Connect- Secure Remote Access Service (SRAS) will allow a user to connect to a corporate network from any location using any access technology with no visible difference to the user. This connection (Remote Access) would be accomplished by using an encrypted circuit or tunnel across the network. VPN or Virtual Private Network is used to describe the tunnel. A common IP network will provide the glue for connecting different access technologies to a common suite of services, from mail to multimedia applications. 1.2 Scope and Audience This document was specifically written for the end user. This could be someone working at home and accessing their LAN at the office, or traveling and trying to reach their corporate LAN. 1.3 Design Deliverables The purpose of this document is to assist the end user to understand what they require for: Downloading and Installing SaskTel VPN Client software. How to establish their first connection over the VPN network 1.4 Assumptions This process assumes that the end user has: an IT Manager in their company to assist them with the installation a PC at a remote location with an Internet account, TCP/IP and meets standard requirements an account their office applications on their PC; the VPN group will not supply these applications. 3 2.0 Customer Roles and Responsibilities 2.1 Service Activation Remote User Activation General Instructions In order to get VPN service on your remote PC there are several things you must have: 1. A User ID & Password ( supplied by your IT manager to yourself and SaskTel 2. Location information for downloading of VPN software 3. An internet account To arrange for the above: 1. Contact the Subscriber Registration Authority (SRA) in your company to request this service (this is the only person in the company you should go through or their backup). 2. Supply the SRA with the following information for your User ID and Password: Your first name, middle initial, and last name. Your address. Your department. Ensure your PC meets the system requirements for Business Connect. They are: Pentium class processor or greater 128 MB RAM (256 MB recommended) 50 MB of free hard drive space Administrator privileges Windows 7 (32-bit only), Windows Vista (all released 32-bit versions preferably with SP2), Windows XP (32-bit) For installation on all Windows OS, please use Add/remove programs to uninstall the existing VPN Client before adding/upgrading to a new Client release. If your PC does not meet the system requirements, ensure you have the necessary upgrades done before you proceed. Your IT Manager should be able to assist you. Speak to your IT Manager about how to handle getting your Internet account. They might refer you to an ISP (Internet Service Provider) or perhaps arrange it for you. 4 Now that your PC meets the standards you must download the software following the instructions are on sasktel.com. To do this: Open your web browser and input this URL in the address box: Read the conditions and click on Yes. If your PC meets the system requirements, start your download following the steps on sasktel.com. If you have any problems performing the downloading, contact your company s network administrator. 2.2 Set Up Instructions (Installation) for Internet VPN Client Software Warning: Please ensure all applications are closed or disabled before starting your installation and use program add/remove to delete any existing VPN client software. The download that you have just finished has placed a new file on your desktop labeled "vpnclient-win-msi k9.exe" 1. Double click on the file "vpnclient-win-msi k9.exe" This screen will pop up Click on Unzip. This screen will pop up Press Ok. 5 This screen will pop up wait until it closes. 4. After the previous screen closes, the following screen appears. Click Next. SaskTel Business Connect Secure Remote Access Service (SRAS) Customer Information Package 4

7 7. The following screen will appear for selecting the directory to install VPN Client. SaskTel recommends accepting the default destination folder. Click Next. 8. 8 9. The application will now install. Wait until it s finished. 10. Once the installation is finished, the following screen appears. Click Finish. SaskTel Business Connect Secure Remote Access Service (SRAS) Customer Information Package 7

9 11. You will now be prompted to restart your computer. Click Yes. 2.3 Instructions for Making First Connection 1. To launch VPN Client, select from Start > All Programs > Cisco Systems VPN Client > VPN Client. 2. Click New to create new connection from the menu bar. 10 3. Configure the VPN client credentials as follows: a. Connection Entry: - SaskTel Business Connect b. Description: - Can be left blank c. Host: - BusinessConnect1.SaskTel.Net d. Authentication Tab i. Select Group Authentication Radio Button ii. Name - <as provided from SaskTel> iii. Password - <as provided from SaskTel> iv. 11 e. Transport Tab i. Check the Enable Transport Tunneling check box ii. Select IPSec over UDP (NAT / PAT) SaskTel Business Connect Secure Remote Access Service (SRAS) Customer Information Package 10

12 f. Backup Server Tab i. Click Add ii. Enter the hostname: BusinessConnect2.SaskTel.Net g. Dial-Up Tab leave as default. h. Click the Save button. Making a remote VPN Connection 1. Highlight the entry made in Section Click Connect and you will be prompted for login authentication 3. Enter your username and password as provided by your IT manager. 13 3.0 Help If you have any problems with setting up your procedures, or have any ongoing problems after, remember your first contact should be your IT Manager/SRA. 4.0 Tips & Techniques If you have trouble logging in, please wait 5 minutes before retrying.
