1 OPEN WI-FI NETWORK Instructions for users of Windows XP - SP2/SP3 Before you go through the steps in this manual, make sure to press the «submit» button in My Network Wi-Fi settings page. This will ensure that your Wi-Fi modem is ready with your personal settings. Dear Customer, The following manual for setting up your VIVACOM Net Wi-Fi network assumes you have already successfully activated and configured your network settings via Note: If you have configured your VIVACOM Net Wi-Fi network to use encrypted access please refer to the following manual Manual for connecting to encrypted VIVACOM Net Wi-Fi network for Windows XP If you are not sure about the exact configuration or you do not remember some of the parameters please visit again and follow the instructions to configure these settings on your computer. It is easy and does not require technical knowledge. Just remember the following settings: SSID the name you have chosen for your wireless network Hidden or Visible wireless network Selected encryption type - WEP, WPA or other Type of the encryption key TKIP, PSK or other The key itself Without these parameters you will not be able to complete the settings on your computer and to use the wireless Internet connection. We would like to warn you that choosing unencrypted (open) connection, you do not have protection on your network with this configuration you cannot be sure that your home or office network is not used by unauthorized users. VIVACOM recommends the use of WPA-PSK type of encryption In order to connect your laptop or computer to the already setup wireless network please follow the steps described below. Step 1: Working Network adapter Make sure that your wireless network adapter (Wireless Network Connection) is enabled (the icon status is shown as enabled ). In case your personal computer has an additional button for switching on the adapter, please place it on ON position. Click: Start -> Settings and then open Control Panel Then choose Network Connections OPEN WI-FI NETWORK page 1 of 7
2 If your adapter is working properly you should be able to see similar window. Step 2: Setting your wireless network adapter Right-click with the mouse on the Wireless Network Connection icon and choose Properties from the drop-down menu. Mark TCP/IP and then click the Properties button. OPEN WI-FI NETWORK page 2 of 7
3 In the General menu check both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS automatically Then click the OK button to go back to the window shown below: Choose Wireless Networks tab. OPEN WI-FI NETWORK page 3 of 7
4 Make sure that Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings is checked. Before going further, please check what kind of selection for the visibility of your wireless network you have made during the network setting at if your network to be visible or hidden. In case you selected hidden SSID (network name) click on Add button and proceed to step 3 of this manual. In case you selected visible SSID (network name) click on View wireless connections. Step 3: Revealing the hidden Wi-Fi network and security settings After you click on Add button you will see a window like the one below: OPEN WI-FI NETWORK page 4 of 7
5 In the field Network name (SSID) type in the name of your network as you selected it on (in case you haven t changed it, it is BTC ADSL). While setting up your network in you have chosen an unencrypted connection. Therefore: in the Network Authentication field select Open. in the Data encryption field select Disabled. After that click OK and in the newly opened window click OK again. Your computer is now setup to connect to your VIVACOM Net Wi-Fi network and will connect automatically. Step 4: Connecting to your VIVACOM Net Wi-Fi network After you click on View wireless network you will see a window like the one below OPEN WI-FI NETWORK page 5 of 7
6 In the window you should now see the name of your Wi-Fi network as you configured in It is possible to see more than one Wi-Fi network. Select the name of your network. Note: If you have followed the manual and you still don t see the name of your network please click Refresh network list until the network is shown. After you choose your network from the list, click on the Connect button. On the screen you will see: Choose Connect Anyway After you connect successfully you will see the screen below: OPEN WI-FI NETWORK page 6 of 7
7 You can now remove the Ethernet cable between the computer and the modem and start using you VIVACOM Net wirelessly.
