1 Vector 3D printer complete wire list including extruder PWA listing Conventions Pin numbering for connectors It is normal practice in print circuit board (PCB) layout to denote pin 1 of a PCB mounted connector with a square (or sometimes oval, but not round) pad. The PCBs used within the vector 3 do not follow this convention. Square pads have been used at either end of the connector. Therefore the convention adopted within this wire list will be as follows; In single row headers, the notch at the end of the line socket will denote pin 1 and pins are counted from the notch. Figure 1 Single row header Viewed from cable entry (Top) Pin 1 arrowed in Red In double row headers, the triangle marker on the side of the cable socket is taken as pin 1, and the pins are numbered as per standard practice for double row IDC connectors, counting across the connector. Not along the pins. Refer to figure 2 below. An assumption has been made here that all IDC cables have been manufactured the same. The wire colours appear reversed as per standard electrical colour convention: I.e. Brown should be pin 1. Figure 2 Double row IDC header. Note blue wire at the pin 1 end.
2 The 2 pin intermediate connectors used for the build plate heater and built plate thermistor are marked with a triangle marker which denotes pin 1. Refer to figure 3 below. Figure 3 Intermediate connectors Light Emitting diodes The multi-colour, common cathode LED mounted on the print head/extruder PWA is designated LED 1. The multicolour LEDs mounted on the front panel PWA are treated as a single component (as the two LEDs are wired in parallel) and is designated LED 2. Figure 4 Print head LED (LED 1) showing the pin 1 position Connection names used throughout this wire list for the LEDs are as follows; LED 1 Com K = LED common Cathode (It is convention to designate a cathode with the letter K and NOT a letter C, to avoid confusion with capacitors which use the letter C) LED 1 A (colour) = LED 1 Anode (colour) Multicolour LEDs usually have 3 Anode connections, 1 for Red, 1 for Green & 1 for Blue. LED 2 Com K = LED common Cathode. See above for LED 1. LED 2 A (colour) = LED Anode (colour) See above for LED 1. Cooling fans The cooling fans used in the vector 3 are designated thus (except for the PSU fan which is ignored); Fan 1 = Filament cooling fan Fan 2 = Extruder heatsink cooling fan Fan 3 = Chassis cooling fan Print head The function is detailed below; Switch (S1) up (toward J3) = Fan 1 software control. Switch (S1) down (toward extruder) = Fan 1 runs continuously Note that by design, Fan 2 runs continuously.
3 Stepper motor limit/position micro-es and hood interlock micro- All the Limit/position/interlock micro-es all wired as normally open contacts. Mains power wiring The mains connection is not included as it is a pre-formed cable which connects to the 24V power supply module. Glossary of terms used in this wire list A CPU Header I 2 C IDC K LED MOSFET PCB PWA RISC Stepper Motor Thermistor Anode Central Processor Unit A small connector designed for connection to PWAs A simple 2 wire serial bus where one wire carries data and the second wire carries a clock signal. Insulation Displacement Connector Cathode Light Emitting Diode Metal Oxide Silicon Field Effect Transistor Printed Circuit Board Printed Wired Assembly Reduced Instruction Set Computer A type of electric motor which moves by 1 step at a time A type of resistor which varies in value according to temperature

Main CPU PWA Thanks are due to Paul for pointing out that the CPU PWA is based on Melli v2 open source board. Looking at the schematics for the Melli card it certainly looks very similar to the Eaglemoss card. The CPU card is based on the ATmega1284P 8 bit, 128K RISC chip using the Arduino open sourced electronics platform. This card has all the hardware required to control the 4 s, (X axis, Y axis, Z axis and filament feed) drive and control the build plate and extruder heaters and control the filament cooling fan (Fan 1, but can be set to continuous run via S1 on the print head PWA). The Melli card uses 30N06 N channel power MOSFETs to control the heaters and fans, and I assume the Eaglemoss card uses the same or similar devices, but I can t say exactly as I didn t want to try and remove the heat-sinks from the FETs. This card also has a USB to serial converter on-board for communications with a PC Note 2, and an on-board micro-sd card slot. There is on-board regulation (via a terminal regulator) to provide a logic +5V supply from a main supply of +24V. The ATmega1284P has an onboard I 2 C interface which is used to provide communications with the motor tester board.
8 Motor tester driver PWA The initial function of this card is to provide a test bed for the various axis motors during the printer build process. For this reason, it has its own +5V power provided by a terminal regulator. The card has a STM8S003F3 (16MHz, 8-bit, 8Kb flash) CPU to provide the required step and direction control to a motor driver card (when used as a motor tester board), and to provide control and monitoring of the printer hood interlock & front panel es, the print head/extruder & front panel LEDs and the internal beeper. I assume that if the card, sees I 2 C communications, then It knows that it s in the printer. In this mode it is powered from the main / CPU PWA +5V supply. Notes 1) The PWA legend on the CPU and the motor tester PWAs are different. The information shown in (brackets) is shown on the motor tester PWA and is the correct information. This was determined by reference to datasheets and continuity testing on the motor tester PWA. 2) The printer driver is (I assume) a generic USB-serial converter to make the printer appear as a COM port to the controlling PC
