Release Notes PowerFlex 700H Drive Firmware (Revision ) These release notes correspond to revision of firmware for PowerFlex 700H drives. This document describes the differences between firmware revision and For more information, see PowerFlex 700H Drive Firmware (Revision ) Release Notes, publication 20C-RN006A-EN-P. Introduction The following information is included in this document: For information about: See page: Determining the Firmware Revision Level Below Firmware Upgrades Below Enhancements 3 Corrected Anomalies 5 Known Anomalies 9 Restrictions 9 Technical Support Options 10 Installation Assistance 10 New Product Satisfaction Return 10 Determining the Firmware Revision Level To determine the firmware version for a PowerFlex 700H Drive, view parameter 29 [Control SW Ver]. Firmware Upgrades This section describes the procedures necessary to flash upgrade your PowerFlex 700H drive firmware. You can download the required PowerFlex 700H Flash Update Tool and firmware on the Allen-Bradley Web Updates site located at Note:! Control Flash and 1203-SSS and 1203-USB serial adapter support through the DPI are not yet available for PowerFlex 700H drives. ATTENTION: Risk of drive damage exists if drive power is removed during the Boot Flash segment of the upgrade/ download. To guard against damage, Do Not Remove Power to the drive until the download is complete and the drive has been reset. Important: Once a flash update has been started, do not remove drive power until the download is complete and the drive has been reset. If power is removed during Boot Flash, the drive may be permanently damaged. A drive that has been damaged in this way cannot be repaired. If power is removed during Application Flash, the drive will remain in Boot and can be reflashed.

2 PowerFlex 700H Drive Firmware (Revision ) Using the PowerFlex Flash Update Tool Important: The PowerFlex 700H Flash Update Tool is used with a serial cable, catalog string 20-60RS232-15M. If a regular 1:1 serial cable is used, pin 7 should be disconnected. Failure to use the recommended 20-60RS232-15M serial cable or to disconnect pin 7 on a 1:1 serial cable could result in damage to the computer s serial port. Also, do not use a crossover cable (NULL Modem) cable. If your computer only has a USB port, you must obtain a USB to serial converter cable in order to complete this procedure. Important: Shut down RSLinx before completing this procedure in order to avoid a COMM PORT error. The system firmware is named RPF700HV67001.vcn and is the only file required for this update. The standard application firmware is bundled with system firmware and does not require a separate download or flash. Note: Firmware version (RPF700HV67001.vcn) is only compatible with version 561x and higher of main control board. (See illustration below for location of main control board version.) 1. Connect the serial cable from your computer to the port on the front of the 700H control assembly as shown below. 651H XXXX XXX XXXX 651H XXXX XXX XXXX Main control board version on label located at top of board Connect serial cable to port on control assembly 2. Start the PowerFlex 700H Flash Update Tool and follow the screen prompts until the flash procedure is completed and the new firmware version is displayed.

PowerFlex 700H Drive Firmware (Revision ) 3 Enhancements This section describes the enhancements for this revision of firmware: Flying Start Performance Improved This revision of firmware contains enhanced algorithms for low speed flying start. With previous versions of firmware the drive might have difficulties finding the speed of the motor when the motor is at a very low or zero speed. It might also cause the motor shaft to cog in the reverse direction. Manual/Auto Added to Digital Input Selections This revision of firmware adds a new selection to the parameters that configure the digital inputs. A value of 68 Manual/Auto is now available in parameters [Digital Inx Sel]. Setting a digital input to a value of 68 Manual/Auto configures the input to command a transition between the automatic speed reference and the manual speed reference. When the input is low, the drive will use the manual speed reference. When it is high, the drive will use the automatic reference. This is similar to the value of 18 Auto/Manual, except the polarity is opposite. Over Voltage Regulation Added to Decel Inhibit Fault This revision of firmware contains enhanced algorithms for the Decel Inhibit fault. The fault algorithm now detects and enunciates the condition where the bus regulator is preventing the drive from decelerating to avoid a bus over voltage condition. This condition is enunciated by a pair of diagnostic parameter bits. Parameter 211 [Drive Alarm 1] / bit 9 Decel Inhib enunciates a Decel Inhibit alarm, while parameter 210 [Drive Status 2] / bit 11 Bus Freq Reg indicates the bus regulator is preventing the deceleration. This is a common condition on drives that control ventilation fans, where there is more than one fan in the plenum. If only one fan is powered and running, the second fan may be turning backwards because of the turbulence in the plenum. When the second drive starts it may need to adjust its frequency command to overcome a bus over voltage condition caused by the regenerating fan motor. Following are the levels at which bus regulation occurs based on the regulation mode selected in parameters 161 [Bus Reg Mode A] or 162 [Bus Reg mode B]: Drive Voltage Class Brake Installed? 0 Disabled 1 Adjust Freq 2 Dynamic Brak 3 Both-DB 1st Yes 844V 1.25 x Par 13 [DC Bus Memory] 844V 1.26 x Par 13 [DC Bus Memory] No 797V 1.18 x Par 13 [DC Bus Memory] 797V 1.18 x Par 13 [DC Bus Memory] Yes 1112V 1.25 x Par 13 [DC Bus Memory] 1112V 1.26 x Par 13 [DC Bus Memory] No 1050V 1.18 x Par 13 [DC Bus Memory] 1050V 1.18 x Par 13 [DC Bus Memory]

4 PowerFlex 700H Drive Firmware (Revision ) Smooth Transfer Between Auto Speed Reference and Manual Speed Reference Note: This enhancement is only available for the following: 20-HIM-A3 / -A4-C3S / -C5S, Series B and firmware v5.004 or higher. This version of firmware allows you to configure the drive to switch smoothly from a communicated speed reference to local speed reference produced by the Human Interface Module (HIM). When the drive is commanded to switch from the automatic (communicated) speed reference to the manual reference via a digital input, it pre-loads the last value from the communicated reference into the HIM. Then you can then modify the manual reference on the HIM. This avoids a step change in speed that would otherwise occur from the switch. New selections, 18 DPI Port 1, 19 DPI Port 2 and 20 DPI Port 3, were added to parameter 96 [TB Man Ref Sel], to accommodate this enhancement. These selections allow you to select a HIM as the source for a manual speed reference. Example: Use a communications adapter (like a 20-COMM-C or 20-COMM-E) in DPI port 5 for the primary - automatic speed reference. Use the on-board HIM in DPI port 1 for the secondary - manual speed reference. Wire digital input 4 to switch between automatic and manual references (high for manual, low for automatic). Make the following parameter selections: 90 [Speed Ref A Sel] = 22 DPI Port 5 96 [TB Man Ref Sel] = 18 DPI Port [Man Ref Preload] = 1 Enabled 364 [Digital In4 Sel] = 18 Auto/Manual When digital input 4 is low, the drive runs in automatic mode, consuming the speed reference from the communications adapter. When digital input 4 goes high the drive takes the last value from the communication adapter and loads it into the HIM. So, the manual speed reference produced by the HIM starts at the last value produced by the communication adapter. Application Note: To facilitate a smooth transfer from manual HIM speed reference back to automatic (communicated) speed reference, you will need to execute the following in controller logic: While the drive is in manual mode, the controller will need to continually transfer the speed feedback or output frequency into its speed reference. This will eliminate any disturbance in the speed when the drive goes from manual mode back to automatic mode.

PowerFlex 700H Drive Firmware (Revision ) 5 Corrected Anomalies This section describes the anomalies corrected in this revision of firmware: Auto Restart Count Displayed on Any Start In previous revisions of firmware, the HIM would display the Auto Restart count on every start. With this revision of firmware, the HIM only displays the Auto Restart count when an auto restart occurs. Corrected Parameter 56 [Compensation] Motor Lead Reversal Issue In the previous revision of firmware, the drive may have incorrectly limited the speed command if parameter 190 [Direction Mode] was set to 2 Reverse Dis and then parameter 56 [Compensation], bit 5 Mtr Lead Rev was changed, the internal speed limits would keep the drive at zero speed. This version no longer limits the drive speed to zero when parameter 56 [Compensation], bit 5 Mtr Lead Rev is changed. Default Value of Parameter 53 [Motor Cntl Sel] Incorrect In the previous revision of firmware, the default value was 2 Custom V/Hz. This revision changes the default value of parameter 53 [Motor Cntl Sel] back to 0 Sensrls Vect, which makes the default motor control mode Sensorless Vector.

6 PowerFlex 700H Drive Firmware (Revision ) Digital Input Selections 41 to 46 added to Digital Input Conflict C In previous revisions of firmware, the logic that checks for conflicts between digital input configurations did not account for possible errors with the following selections (set in parameters [Digital Inx Sel]): 41 UserSet Sel1 42 UserSet Sel2 43 Run Level 44 RunFwd Level 45 RunRev Level 46 Run w/comm This revision of firmware checks these selections for conflicts. Maximum Value of Parameter 216 [Dig In Status] Incorrect In the previous revision of firmware, the maximum value of parameter 216 [Dig In Status] was 31. This prevented the parameter from displaying the status of digital input 6. The maximum value of parameter 216 [Dig In Status] has been changed to 63. Menus not Visible in File Group Element (FGE) View on HIM In previous revisions of firmware, the FGE view on the HIM did not display all of the available menus. The FGE view on the HIM now displays all menus (includes Motor Control > Motor Data, Utility > Diagnostics, and Input/Outputs > Analog Outputs). Parameter 7 [Output Power] Value Incorrect In the previous revision of firmware, the value produced in parameter 7 [Output Power] was incorrect. This revision of firmware corrects the value produced in [Output Power].

PowerFlex 700H Drive Firmware (Revision ) 7 Parameters 324 and 327 [Analog Inx Loss] Hold Input Not Working In the previous revision of firmware, the drive did not properly react to an analog input loss event properly when parameters 324 and 327 [Analog Inx Loss] were set to a value of 2 Hold Input. This revision of firmware corrects the drive s reaction to an analog input loss when [Analog Inx Loss] is set to 2 Hold Input. Parameter Default Values not Based on Drive Rating In previous revisions of firmware, the default value of the following parameters should have been based on the drive rating: 41 [Motor NP Volts] 42 [Motor NP FLA] 43 [Motor NP Hertz] 44 [Motor NP RPM] 45 [Motor NP Power] 46 [Mtr NP Pwr Units] 55 [Maximum Freq] 62 [IR Voltage Drop] 63 [Flux Current Ref] 69 [Start/Acc Boost] 71 [Break Voltage] 72 [Break Frequency] 82 [Maximum Speed] 91 [Speed Ref A Hi] 94 [Speed Ref B Hi] 97 [TB Man Ref Hi] 107 [Preset Speed 7] 119 [Trim Hi] 148 [Current Lmt Val] 158 [DC Brake Level] 160 [Bus Reg Ki] 164 [Bus Reg Kp] This caused severe problems with Add On Profiles in RSLogix 5000 and Logix controllers that stored the drive configuration in the controller project (.ACD) file. This revision of firmware bases the default value, of the parameters listed above, on the drive rating.

8 PowerFlex 700H Drive Firmware (Revision ) Remove Offline Units of Measure from Certain Parameters With previous revisions of firmware, DriveExecutive would display incorrect units for parameters that could change from Hz to RPM. The offline units have been removed from these parameters. These parameters include: 81 [Minimum Speed] 82 [Maximum Speed] 83 [Overspeed Limit] 84 [Skip Frequency 1] 85 [Skip Frequency 2] 86 [Skip Frequency 3] 87 [Skip Freq Band] 91 [Speed Ref A Hi] 92 [Speed Ref A Lo] 94 [Speed Ref B Hi] 95 [Speed Ref B Lo] 97 [TB Man Ref Hi] 98 [TB Man Ref Lo] 100 [Jog Speed 1] 101 [Preset Speed 1] 102 [Preset Speed 2] 103 [Preset Speed 3] 104 [Preset Speed 4] 105 [Preset Speed 5] 106 [Preset Speed 6] 107 [Preset Speed 7] 108 [Jog Speed 2] 119 [Trim Hi] 120 [Trim Lo] 195 [MOP Rate] 454 [Rev Speed Limit] Reset to Default Values via Parameter 197 [Reset to Defalts] Caused Communications Adapter Problems on Frame 12 and 14 Drives In previous revisions of firmware, setting parameter 197 [Reset to Defalts] to a value of value of 1 Factory, 2 Low Voltage or 3 High Voltage could cause a DPI communications adapter (for example: 20-COMM-E, 20-COMM-C or 20-COMM-D) to lock up during the reset. This problem was limited to frame 12 and frame 14 drives. This anomaly has been corrected in this firmware revision.

PowerFlex 700H Drive Firmware (Revision ) 9 Sleep and Wake Times Limited In previous revisions of firmware, the durations of the timers that were linked to parameters 183 [Sleep Time] and 181 [Wake Time] were improperly limited, due to scaling. This revision of firmware corrects the scaling improperly applied to [Sleep Time] and [Wake Time]. Known Anomalies This section describes known anomalies that are not addressed by this firmware revision: Error when Flashing DPI Devices Errors can occur if you attempt to flash-update a DPI peripheral, such as a communications adapter or HIM. Parameter Translations Parameter names and enumerations for parameters added since revision are available only in English. Restrictions This section lists the known restrictions for this revision of firmware: HIM Model Use Restricted Smooth transfer between Auto Speed Reference and Manual Speed Reference requires a series B 20-HIM-A3 / -A4-C3S / -C5S HIM with firmware version (or later). Firmware Version Only Compatible with Main Control Board Version 561x and Higher Firmware version (RPF700HAV67001.vcn) is only compatible with main control board version 561x and higher.
