5 What s Your Usage? Will it sit in court on a table where you work, maybe go back to your office from time to time? If so, you can get bigger screen, weight doesn t matter as much. If you re a mobile reporter, in court or freelance, you want smaller and lighter, in my humble opinion. Battery Usage Important! I ve used the battery only on writer and computer for what I believe will be short depos. Less than an hour, hour and a half. If we get to a break and still going, I plug in. My Acer model will go up to 7, 8 or even 9 hours on battery depending on what you are doing. You can check the battery status in the Windows tray while your are working. Things to Know! Google overheating on the models you are zeroing in on. In the past some notebooks got so hot you couldn t use them on your lap. Go to places like pcworld.com, anandtech.com, tomsguide.com, hothardware.com. These places test/rate hardware/software. 5

6 SSD s - A Good Question! Size of hard drive: SSD s are too small. I ve got lots of files, lots of messages, lots of s and even more photos and music. I can t fit on that small drive. Welllllll, let me say you are courting disaster with all that data on a portable device. Go ahead, drop it once just wrong and, poof, there it all goes! Sad, sad. That s a good question! SSD s All the extraneous stuff should be on your home/office computer that doesn t go anywhere or not very often, anyway. You can keep many StenoCAT files on your RT computer if you have an SSD. It loads quite fast and still boots fast. Store those other files on your back up drives, where you can access them but just not on the RT computer, please, which you carry around. What would Allen buy? I purchased an Acer in October of 2015 with Windows 10, 8 gigs of memory and a 1 terabyte spinning hard drive. I removed the HD and installed a 256 gig SSD, which is the computer that is running this presentation today. Cost of SSD was $83, took an hour or a little more. Just a screw driver. It s got all my SC files since October, over a thousand and boots into SC very quickly. 6
