Note: This software release (BPE-SS-03LV) includes all files for upgrading the SRW-5800 from V2.00 and higher. NEW FEATURES AND IMPROVEMENTS (OVERVIEW) x 1556 mode has been added. 2. 3D 444 RGB mode has been added RGB double speed playback and recording has been added x 1080 RGB 12 bit recording has been added. 5. Consumer style 3D side by side monitoring has been added. 6. 3D streams can now be individually edited. 7. Left and right 3D channels can now be swapped in monitor output. 8. 3D LUT function has been added for the HKSR-5001/20 Format Converter Board. Further details of these and other new features and improvements can be found in the APPENDIX. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE Preparation of Memory Stick 1. Format a memory stick as follows: a) Insert a memory stick into the MS slot behind the SRW-5800 control panel. Note: SRW-5800 (Serial No. 10xxx) with a PCMCIA card slot will require a PCMCIA to memory stick adaptor. Alternatively, these models can be modified to support a memory stick, as described in Technical Bulletin b) Press SETUP > MEMORY CARD > FORMAT CARD. c) Follow the formatting instructions on the control panel. d) The memory stick is now formatted. Remove the memory stick. 2. Using a computer, copy the 50 software files to the following folder on the formatted memory stick: MSSONY\PRO\VTR\SRW5800 Caution: Do NOT place any other software files in this folder. For example, if any of the files for upgrading the HKSR-5804 are also present, some of the files may become corrupted. 2 Upgrade SYS1, SYS2, CP ROMs + BOOT Programs 1. Reinsert the memory stick into the MS slot behind the SRW-5800 control panel. 2. Press SFT + DIAG > F1 to display the ROM VERSION screen. Caution: Units with SYS1 V1.xx require a hardware modification, which must be performed by a qualified service engineer. Contact your local Authorised Sony Service Centre for further details. 3. If the current version of SYS1 is V2.xx, you must upgrade SYS1, SYS2, and CP first (in sequence) as follows: Note: If the current version of SYS1 is V3.xx, skip the rest of this section and go directly to 'Upgrade Remaining ROMs + PLDs'. a) Press SFT + DIAG > SFT + F8 (MAINTE) > SET + F2 (ROM MAINTE) > F1 (SYS1 ROM). The current versions of Application program and Boot program will be displayed. b) Press SFT + centre cursor to start the download. c) Press SFT + DIAG > SFT + F8 (MAINTE) > SET + F2 (ROM MAINTE) > F2 (SYS2 ROM). The current versions of Application program and Boot program will be displayed. d) Press SFT + centre cursor to start the download. e) Press SFT + DIAG > SFT + F8 (MAINTE) > SET + F2 (ROM MAINTE) > F4 (CP ROM). The current versions of Application program and Boot program will be displayed. f) Press SFT + centre cursor to start the download. 4. Press F10 (EXIT) twice to reboot the VTR. Note: After the VTR reboots, the SYS version will not match the PLD version, and ERROR-B3 may occur. This is not a problem. Upgrade Remaining ROMs + PLDs 1. Press SFT + DIAG > SFT + F8 (MAINTE) > F2 (ROM MAINTE) > SFT + 0 (A) > F2 (NEW DATA). 2. Confirm that all target ROMs and PLDs are displayed. 3. Press SFT + centre cursor to start the download. 4. Confirm that the message 'DOWNLOAD COMPLETE xx files downloaded' is displayed. Note: 'xx' refers to the number of files downloaded, depending on the number of options installed. 5. Press F10 (EXIT) twice to reboot the VTR. CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE 1. Confirm that the VTR starts normally after the reboot. 2. Press SFT + DIAG > F1 to display the ROM VERSION screen. 3. Confirm that the software versions are the same as the versions listed in Table 1. Note: Table 1 includes a complete list of latest versions for all products / board combinations, however, the ROM VERSION menu will only display versions of boards that have been installed. 2 of 20

As the interface, the 1.5G dual-link or 3G-SDI is used. As of December 2010, these interfaces are SMPTE RDD pending. As for the supporting equipment, Deck Link HD Extreme 3D and HD Link Pro manufactured by Blackmagic Design Incorporated support the format. 3 of 20

4 This system has the following restrictions. SD (D/C) is not output. Motion pictures can be displayed on the control panel only when HKSR-5001/20 is installed. 2. 4:4:4 SQ 3D RGB 10-bit The conventional 4:2:2 dual-stream (3D) recording and playback function is expanded to support recording and playback of the dual-stream (3D) signal with the RGB 4:4:4 SQ image quality. As the interface, the 3G-SDI dual-link is used. This system has the following functional restrictions. The system delay in the EE mode is 6 frames. (4:2:2 3D is 1 frame.) The MENU: 706 (FORCED VERTICAL INTERPOLATION OFF) is forcibly turned off. The MENU: 713 (SYNC PHASE HD) and MENU: 714 (FINE HD) do not work. 3. 4:4:4 SQ DBL (double speed) RGB 10-bit The conventional 4:2:2 double-speed recording and playback function is expanded to support the double-speed playback of the RGB 4:4:4 SQ recorded tape, and recording of the signal. As the interface, the 3G-SDI dual-link is used. The dual-speed editing is possible as well as the 4:2:2 double-speed mode. Both picture and sound that are recorded and edited in the double-speed mode can be played back by all models of the SRW series with the ordinary 4:4:4 SQ system. This system has the same functional restrictions as the above-described 4:4:4 SQ 3D system. 4. 4:4:4 HQ 1920 x 1080 RGB 12-bit In addition to the conventional 1920 x 1080 RGB 4:4:4 10-bit signal, recording and playback of the 1920 x 1080 RGB 4:4:4 12-bit signal are supported in the HQ mode. As the interface, the dual-link or 3G-SDI is used. The RGB 12-bit recorded tape can be played back by the conventional RGB 10-bit system but the lower 2 bits are truncated. Conversely, the lower 2 bits are replaced as 00 when the conventional 10-bit recorded tape is played back by the 12-bit system. In addition, if the 10-bit signal is input when the unit is in the conventional RGB 4:4:4 12-bit system, the lower 2 bits are recorded in accordance with the data input to Link-B. For example, when the data is 040h (black level), the data is handled as described below in the 12-bit system: [7:6] = (G1, G0), [5:4] = (B1, B0), [3:2] = (R1, R0) Therefore, G [1:0] = 01 (binary) B [1:0] = 00 (binary) R [1:0] = 00 (binary) The above signals are produced. (For details, refer to the SMPTE-372M specifications.) 4 of 20

5 [New Features] 1. The monitor output in the DUAL (3D) MODE has the additional function of SIDE by SIDE. The SIDE by SIDE function is added to MENU: 981 MONITOR OUT SELECT (DUAL MODE) and MENU: 982 FC/DC OUT SELECT (DUAL MODE). This function works in the dual-stream (3D) mode of both 4:2:2 and 4:4:4. SIDE by SIDE (A/B): The screen is horizontally split in two. The LINK-A signal and the LINK-B signal are scaled down to half the horizontal size. The LINK-A signal is output to the left half of the screen and the LINK-B to the right half. SIDE by SIDE (B/A): The screen is horizontally split in two. The LINK-B signal and the LINK-A signal are scaled down to half the horizontal size. The LINK-B signal is output to the left half of the screen and the LINK-A to the right half. 6 2. LINK-A/LINK-B replacement function is added to the monitor output in the dual-stream (3D) mode LINK-B/A is added to MENU: 981 MONITOR OUT SELECT (DUAL MODE). This function works in the dual-stream (3D) mode and the double-speed mode of both 4:2:2 and 4:4:4. LINK-B/A: The LINK-A signal and the LINK-B signal are exchanged with each other with respect to the main line output signal, and output to MONITOR OUT. 3. Single LINK editing function is added to the dual-stream (3D) mode The function of editing the picture of either LINK-A or LINK-B independently in the dual-stream (3D) mode is added. The function works during INSERT of the 3D mode in both 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 systems. The operating procedure is described below: Select MENU: 323 VIDEO EDIT SELECT and then select the LINK that you want to edit. (Default: LINK-A/B) The current selection status can be checked on the color display. Other operations are the same as the conventional INSERT editing operation. 6 of 20

7 LINK-A/B is selected. LINK-A is selected. Confirmation screen of the selected editing target LINK-B is selected. 4. 3D VPID (Video Payload ID) is supported The 3D VPID (Video Payload ID: Packet showing the format information specified by SMPTE-352M) can be multiplexed in the SDI signal that is output in accordance with the menu setting during the 4:2:2 dual-stream (3D) mode. It is expected that the 3D VPID is multiplexed in the input SDI signal. This function works when both the input and output are set to Dual-Link. MENU 922: VPID SELECT (3D) DUAL STREAM: The VPID is handled as the two independent SDI signal. (Default) 3D: The VPID is handled as the 3D signal. This function does not work with the 4:4:4 dual-stream (3D) system or in the double-speed playback. The signal is handled as the dual stream signal in such cases. Note: The 3D VPID is installed based on FCD (Final Commit Draft) of SMPTE as of December 2010, but may be changed in the final standard. 7 of 20

VPID monitoring and alarm The function of monitoring VPID and displaying its contents on the information display (Page 10) when VPID specified by SMPTE-352M is multiplexed in the input signal is added. Display example: When 1920 x 1080/23.98PsF RGB 4:4:4 Dual Link input is detected The function of issuing an alarm when the detected VPID is not appropriate for the system in use is added. The following warning messages are added: Warning-29: VPID MISMATCH BIT DEPTH This message is issued when the bit length described in the input signal VPID does not match the system bit length. Warning-2A: VPID MISMATCH COLOR SPACE This message is issued when the color space described in the input signal VPID does not match the system color space. Warning-2B: VPID MISMATCH LINK INFORMATION This message is issued when the Link information described in the input signal VPID does not match with the actually connected input signal. 6. The Variable +0.5 times speed playback in the double-speed mode The software is changed to enter the Variable +0.5 times speed playback mode when the [SFT] + VAR button are pressed in the double-speed mode to facilitate the confirmation of the edited result in the x1 playback speed (normal playback speed). * Because this is a Variable speed playback, it is different from the normal x1 speed playback. It cannot be used for editing. 7. MONITOR LUT function (HKSR-5001/20 S/No and higher) The Monitor LUT (Look Up Table) function is added to HKSR-5001/20 (S/No FC-111). This function works when converting the signal from RGB 4:4:4 to Y/C 4:2:2. This function is useful to check the material that is recorded with the gamma such as S-Log in RGB 4:4:4, on the normal monitor screen having the ITU-BT709 gamma. The operating procedure is described below: 7-1. Registration of the LUT data in the LUT BANK To use the FC Monitor LUT function, the LUT data should be registered in the BANK in advance. The operating procedure is described below: Assign the MENU: K34, FC LUT BANK to any PF key with PF ASSIGN of the Set Up menu. * The factory default assignment is [VIDEO] / [ALT] / [F10]. 8 of 20

9 Example: When K34 is assigned to VIDEO ALT F10 VIDEO ALT screen (factory default setup) When the FC LUT BANK menu that is set above is opened, the LUT registered in the BANK is displayed. Immediately after version upgrade or when the part is shipped from the factory, LUT is in an unregistered state. When loading the LUT data from the Memory Stick FC LUT BANK screen Select the LUT that you want to register with the [ ] or [ ] key. Insert the Memory Stick containing the LUT file into the slot and press [F2] (FC LUT LOAD). The LUT file stored in the Memory Stick is displayed. Select the LUT that you want to register with the [ ] or [ ] key. Press [F1] (DETAIL) to show the LUT curve. When [F1] is pressed again, the unit returns to the original screen. 9 of 20

10 The LUT file of the Memory Stick is displayed. LUT curve display While selecting the LUT file that you want to register, press F9 (LOAD). A confirmation message appears. Press [SFT] + [F9] to execute registration. To cancel this operation, press the [CLR] key. When the LOAD operation is completed, press [F10] (EXIT) to return to the FC LUT BANK screen. Up to eight LUT data can be registered with this procedure. * The LUT data is stored in the memory on the HKSR-5001 board instead of the one in the SRW-5800 main unit. Loading the LUT data Up to eight LUT data can be registered in the BANK menu Saving the LUT data of LUT BANK in the Memory Stick The LUT data that is registered in BANK can be saved in the Memory Stick. Select the BANK that you want to register in the Memory Stick, from the LUT data registered in LUT BANK, and press [F3] (FC LUT SAVE). A confirmation message appears. Press [SFT] + [F3] to execute the operation. To cancel this operation, press the [CLR] key. 10 of 20

11 Select LUT BANK and then press [F3] (SAVE). 12 7-4. Select LUT For the actual use of the registered LUT, select a LUT BANK. There are two ways to select a LUT BANK. (Operations are the same.) Press [F5] (FC LUT MODE) on the above described FC LUT BANK screen to select a LUT BANK. A mark appears to the left of the selected BANK. * Note that the highlighted BANK is not the one used for the LUT function. The highlighted BANKs are the targets of LOAD and SAVE. A mark appears to the left of the BANK selected by [F5]. Select a BANK from BANK-1 to BANK-8 in the MENU: A24, FC LUT MODE. VTR Setup Menu A24: FC LUT MODE menu 7-5. FC LUT file The LUT files used for FC LUT are saved in the following directory of the Memory Stick. MSSONY/PRO/VTR/SRW5800/LUT Five types of LUT file are available, and the extension is limited.lut. Conversion from 2048 x K x K x x 1080 (RGB 4:4:4 and Y/C 4:2:2) conversion output (EDGE CROP Mode) EDGE-CROP that is selected by MENU: A21 (FC CONVERT MODE) is supported. The conversion is performed by cropping the frame size of 1920 x 1080 from the frame size of 2048 x 1556 as shown below. The cropping position can be changed by MENU: A22 (H CROP POSITION) and A23 (V CROP POSITION). 17 of 20

Conversion from 2048x x1080 (CROP Mode) K x x 1080 (Y/C 4:2:2) conversion output (LETTER BOX Mode) LETTER BOX of MENU: A21 (FC CONVERT MODE) is supported. The signal is converted to the picture frame of 1920 x 1080 while maintaining the aspect ratio of 2048 x 1556 as shown below. The 2048 x 1556 signal is scaled down vertically to the half (2048 x 778), which is then converted to the picture frame of 1920 x 1080 while maintaining the aspect ratio of 2048 x 778 as shown below. 19 Conversion from 2048x x1080 (SQUEEZE Mode) [Error Corrections] 1. Correction of the 100% CB (internal SG) in the 4:4:4 RGB mode There were steps in the rise-up waveform of the 100% CB (internal SG) in the 4:4:4 RGB mode. When it was displayed in the GUMAT diamond waveform display on the waveform monitor, unnatural curves were observed. The internal SG data are corrected to eliminate the bumps that caused the error in the waveform. Correction of the error that the cassette was ejected immediately after it was inserted in the FLEXICART The arm of the FLEXICART keeps pushing the tape until the cassette compartment of the VTR starts moving. When the cassette compartment starts moving and the arm stops pushing the tape, the cassette is bounced back by its reaction and the IN SW that detects the insertion of the cassette is turned off. As a result, the cassette is ejected The time from the detection of the cassette insertion until the cassette compartment starts moving is shortened (300ms 120ms) when the cart is in motion. This eliminates the time holding down the cassette by the arm of the cart to suppress the reaction. 20 of 20
