2 What is Virtual Desktop Infrastructure(VDI) Employees or users in an enterprise with a VDI system architecture can obtain and instantly apply information from anywhere on the Internet using their endpoint devices, without time, distance or space constraints. They can access their applications and data very safely over a network and the risk of data loss is minimised. For companies and IT departments, VDI accelerates deployment of new capabilities without needing to acquire new hardware and configure components. It also reduces application testing requirements and compatibility issues and simplifies disaster recovery and compliance. What is PC-over-IP (PCoIP)? PC-over-IP (PCoIP) applied to VDI is a method of providing stable performance. It uses cloud server resources over the Internet in order to process the end-user's workflow. Rather than requiring expensive computer equipment at the remote end, only an endpoint device is needed to take advantage of the cloud host's hardware capabilities. It is an easy VDI solution that offers the best data security, considerable savings on equipment upgrades and maintenance costs and no distance limitations. The most commonly used endpoint devices on today's market are zero clients and thin clients. As long as the endpoint is connected to the cloud, the user can keep their usual desktop PC and work normally without changing their previous workflow. Management complexity is greatly reduced, provided that IT personnel properly manage the VDI server. Furthermore, whenever users encounter problems, there is no need for IT technicians to visit the user's premises to carry out maintenance. System and program updates are also controlled centrally at the VDI cloud data centre, significantly enhancing the operation management capabilities of IT administrators and saving unnecessary wastage of time and manpower. Strengthens data security Once a VDI solution is implemented, all operating systems, applications and even user data are controlled centrally by the server in the cloud data centre, reducing endpoints to simple client devices. In addition, USB portable hard drives or other peripheral storage devices are limited by the virtual machine management rules and usage principles, thereby strengthening the protection of ompany data. Reduces overheads by eliminating the need to purchase new hardware After desktop virtualisation, most operations are computed in the cloud data centre, so the specification requirements of remote user computers are much lower than for traditional PCs. In the virtual desktop environment, only thin client or zero client endpoint devices are needed to meet the demand for image display output and other basic operations.
