1 11.0 Microchip PIC Development Tools 11.1 ICEPIC - The most popular In Circuit Emulator in the world! The ICEPIC, ICEPIC2 and now ICEPIC-Jnr emulators, are fully modular Real Time In-Circuit Emulator (ICE) systems, for use with Microchip Technology's PIC series of Microcontrollers. Designed by Ex-Microchip personnel, under contract from Microchip, the ICEPIC emulators are now the most popular in the world, we have shipped more 5000 units to over 35 countries. Microchip Technology are now distributing the ICEPIC and their MPLAB software will include operation of the ICEPIC from Ver3.30 The ICEPIC systems are a modular design, enabling future upgrades as new PIC's are released. We are continually developing new daughterboards for an ever growing list of PIC microcontrollers There are four ICEPIC systems to choose from, ICEPIC-Jnr-5x, ICEPIC-Jnr-16, ICEPIC and ICEPIC2. Each system provides Real Time emulation and also shares the same IDE (Integrated Development Environment) with a comprehensive GUI under Microsoft Windows software (as above). Each system will operate under Microchip s own MPLAB Operating Software and is compatible with MPC C Compiler, as well as our own C Compiler from CCS. The latest 16bit (Win 3.11) and 32bit (Win95 & Win NT) versions of our software are always available as a free upgrade on our Internet web site. All ICEPIC systems have been designed to be compatible with Microchip's own software tools and will continue to be in the future. New daughterboards are in design and we look forward to providing emulation for some of the new PIC microcontrollers due to arrive throughout the coming year. CAT_V2_4.DOC June REG No , ENGLAND. 9 11.8 C Compilers for Microchip PIC16CXX Built in Libraries for all PICs; RS232, I/O, I2C, and delays. Integrates with MPLAB and other simulators/emulators for source level debugging. Formatted Printf allows easy formatting in Hex or Dec Efficient function implementation allows call trees deeper than the hardware stack. Access to hardware from C functions: Timers, A/D, E2, SSP, PSP, I2C 1,8 and 16 bit types. Assembly code may be inserted anywhere in source and may reference C variables Automatic linking handles multiple code pages Inline procedures supported to save stack space, Linker automatically determines optimum architecture. Standard one bit type (Short Int) permits the compiler to generate efficient Bit oriented code #BIT and #BYTE allow C variables to be placed at absolute addresses to map to C variables IRQ procedures supported on PCM. Start-up and cleanup code is generated CAPABILITIES Arrays up to 5 subscripts Structures and Unions may be nested Custom bit fields (1-8 bits) within structures ENUMurated types Updates via modem for 30 days included. CONSTant variables, arrays and strings Full function parameter support (any number) Some support for C++ reference parameters Based on original K&R, this C compiler is fully optimised for use on PICs. Built in functions, provide a fast and easy method to produce efficient code. This integrated C development environment gives developers the capability to quickly produce very efficient code from an easily maintainable high level language. The compiler includes built in functions to access the PIC hardware such as READ_ADC to read a value from the A/D converter. Discrete I/O is handled by describing the port characteristics in a PRAGMA. Functions such as INPUT and OUTPUT_HIGH will properly maintain the tri-state registers. Variables including structures may be directly mapped to memory such as I/O ports to best represent the hardware structure in C. The microcontroller clock speed may be specified in a PRAGMA to permit built in functions to delay for a given number of microseconds or milliseconds. Serial I/O functions allow standard functions such as GETC and PRINTF to be used for RS-232 like I/O. The hardware serial transceiver is used for applicable parts when possible. For all other cases a software serial transceiver is generated by the compiler. The standard C operators and the special built in functions are optimised to produce very efficient code for the bit and I/O functions. Functions may be implemented inline or separate. Function parameters are passed in reusable registers. Inline functions with reference parameters are implemented efficiently with no memory overhead. During the linking process the program structure including the call tree is analysed. Functions that call one another frequently are grouped together in the same page. Calls across pages are handled automatically by the tool transparent to the user. Functions may be implemented inline or separate. RAM is allocated efficiently by using the call tree to determine how locations can be re-used. Constant strings and tables are saved in the device ROM. The output hex and debug files are selectable and compatible with popular emulators & programmers including MPLAB for source level debugging. The Professional Package (PCW) provides both compilers in a powerful Windows environment. 10 11.9 Basic Compiler for Microchip PIC16CXX BASIC COMPILER FOR PIC16CXX SUPPORTS PIC16C55X, 6X, 7X, 8X, 92X AND PIC14000 DIRECTLY GENERATES HEX CODE TRUE COMPILER PROVIDES FASTER PROGRAM EXECUTION AND LONGER PROGRAMS THAN BASIC INTERPRETERS PEEK AND POKE INSTRUCTIONS ACCESS ANY PIC REGISTER FROM BASIC SERIAL SPEEDS TO 9600 BAUD EXPANDED BASIC STAMP I (PBASIC 1*) COMPATIBLE INSTRUCTION SET I 2 CIN AND I 2 COUT INSTRUCTIONS TO ACCESS EXTERNAL SERIAL EEPROMS AND OTHER I 2 C DEVICES IN-LINE ASSEMBLER AND CALL SUPPORT Write your PIC programs in BASIC! The PicBasic Compiler converts these programs into hex or binary files that can be programmed directly into a PIC microcontroller. The easy-to-use BASIC language makes PIC programming available to everyone with its English-like instruction set. The PicBasic Compiler instruction set is compatible with the Parallax BASIC Stamp 1 (BS1). BS1 programs can be compiled into PIC code ready for programming directly into a PIC, eliminating the need for a BASIC Stamp module. The benefits of the PicBasic Compiler include faster program execution than BASIC interpreters, longer programs are possible resulting in substantial cost savings over a BASIC Stamp. Peek and Poke instructions let you use additional PIC features not available on the BASIC Stamp I. These include access to PORTA, B, C, D and E (if the particular PIC has them), A/D converters, hardware serial ports and other on-pic features in BASIC, foregoing the need to use assembly language. MPASM assembly language instructions may be mixed with BASIC instructions through the use of the PicBasic Compiler's in-line assembler and Call instruction. A PIC macro assembler is also included and automatically invoked by the PicBasic Compiler. The I 2 C commands let the PIC talk to external I 2 C devices such as serial EEPROMs, using only a 2-wire interface. Two PortA pins have been dedicated to this task (the specific pins assigned may be easily changed if so desired) so there is no need to lose any of the special purpose PortB pins. The PicBasic Compiler also has the ability to handle many more user variables, particularly when compared to the BS1. BS1 only provides variables from B0 - B13 and W0 - W6. The latest version of the PicBasic compiler allows variables from B0 - B79 and W0 - W39 when used with PICs having more RAM registers such as PIC16C622 and 16C74. The PicBasic Compiler is a DOS command line application (it also operates within Windows). It requires a PC or compatible to run. It can create programs for the PIC16C55x, 6x, 62x, 64x, 66x, 7x, 71x, 8x, 92x and PIC14000 microcontrollers and produces object code compatible with most PIC programmers.
