4 1 PCS Ferguson 8000 Series Hardware Specifications And Diagrams PCS Ferguson 8000 Series Overview Manual This document has the technical specifications and diagrams for the PCS Ferguson 8800, the PCS Ferguson 8600 the PCS Ferguson 8400, and the PCS Ferguson 8200 controllers. These controllers are specialized boards for well site automation. Each board has its own set of supported features as shown in the technical specifications and diagrams. The power and SD Card features are common to all three. Brief descriptions of those features are at the end of this document. Well Optimization Applications itemizes the firmware applications the controller supports. The applications manage a variety of optimization options that allow the user to adapt the automation system to the specific well site or pad. Technical Specifications itemize the features of the circuit boards. Analog and Digital IO Diagrams show the analog and digital inputs and outputs available on each circuit board and their location. The diagrams show the basic use of each. However, the user can customize the PCS Ferguson 8000 Series controllers. Communication Diagrams show the communication ports available on each controller and their location on the circuit board. Typically, the ports serve connections in one of three functions. Well Network between automation system controllers and devices: The user can employ a wireless or hardwired network between the controllers and devices. On site with the PCS Ferguson 8000 Series controllers: A user can connect through a laptop or a mobile device to the automation system. This connection allows the user to communicate to the controllers and devices for configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Off site to the PCS Ferguson 8000 Series controllers: This communications network is outside the scope of this document but within the capabilities of the 8000 Series controllers when using radio or cellular modem. For more information about customizing the 8000 Series controllers to an existing system or a designing a new system, contact a PCS Ferguson sales and service representative. An 8200 running Slave Firmware can support up to 46 different Analog input configurations assigned to its four analog inputs. Additionally 31 Digital Input configurations are selectable on the four digital inputs. By supporting the wide variety of configurations, the user can utilize multiple 8200s, spread across the well site, to monitor and log a wide variety of equipment signals, and their states (i.e. compressors, separators, flare stacks, VRUs, etc.). These configurations can be selected by name in the data logging capabilities of a Master or Manager and logged as trend data. In Gas Lift applications, these signals may be monitored by the alarm feature. 19 PCS Ferguson 8000 Series Hardware Specifications And Diagrams
20 An example of the analog input configurations available to the user/installer are shown below. Figure 1.8 Analog Input Configuration Types in the PCS Ferguson 8200 Remote IO Slave NOTE To prevent overwriting cached data stored at the master or managing controller, each analog and digital input/output configuration can be utilized once per well slot, regardless of how many 8200 slaves are assigned to that well slot. For example, only one Casing Pressure analog input configuration may be present in all the 8200s analog input assignments that serve that well slot. The most common configurations utilized on the analog and digital input/outputs, which support for plunger lift operations, are discussed below. These configurations would be present on an 8200 Multi-Well Slave located at the wellhead. PCS Ferguson 8000 Series Hardware Specifications And Diagrams 20

23 1.4 PCS Ferguson 8000 Series Memory The PCS Ferguson 8000 Series controllers use memory to store details about the system configuration, performance, alarms, and network traffic. The 8800 Site Manager and the 8400 have NAND flash and NVRAM memory and support Secure Digital (SD) Cards. The 8200 has an SD card slot but does not have NAND flash or NVRAM memory SD Card Slot An SD card allows users to save files of the well configuration information, performance data, and network traffic. These files allow the user to take the information back to the office and analyze later. While at the office, the user can download firmware updates to a card and make the update while at the well site. Typically, the user can find the card slot behind the radio as shown below. If a card is in place, the top of the SD Card is visible. Figure 1.11 SD Card Slot is behind the Radio 23 PCS Ferguson 8000 Series Hardware Specifications And Diagrams
24 1.5 PCS Ferguson 8000 Series Power Supply PCS Ferguson 8000 Series Overview Manual The 8000 Series controllers are solar powered. The terminals for these connections are located on the lower right corner of the boards as shown below. Figure 1.12 PCS Ferguson 8400 Terminals for Battery and Solar Power The solar panel and battery requirements for a well site depend on the individual site and system. These requirements are outside the scope of this document. However, a PCS Ferguson sales and service representative can help a user explore the options for their site. Each of the 8000 Series boards offers power terminals for the transducers. These terminals have a 3-pin jumper that switches the power supply for the terminal from 0-5 Volts to the battery. The label for the terminals is TPWR. They are located near the analog connections. The 3-pin jumper is located above the analog inputs. The label for the jumper has 5V and BATT. The factory default is 0-5 Volts. The boards also offer jumpers that switch some of the analog inputs from 0-5 Volts to 4-20 ma. These jumpers have the label 420. Walk Up Display Security The user might want to prevent or limit the types of changes a user can make with the Walk Up Display. This area allows 1-10 four (4) -digit codes for each user type: administrator or operator. The following procedures describe how to enable the codes. The decisions to make about implementing a security policy are outside the scope of this document. 2.7 Preparation The user needs to know the following before enabling the security codes: Which of the areas to control How many codes and their values 2.8 Specify a Code for a Wellhead Controller With this code enabled, any remote user, including an onsite user with a serial connection, needs to enter the security code to make changes to the configuration. To add a security code 1. Open WellVision and connect to the wellhead. NOTE For the Multi-Well application, this code applies to the slave. 2. On the Setup tab, select the Set Security Code button in the Settings area. 3. In the Set Security dialog box, enter 4 numbers. Figure 2.8 The security code applies to the wellhead controller. 4. Select Set. Connecting to the PCS Ferguson Well Site SCADA Components 32
33 Figure 2.9 The code must be numbers. 2.9 Specify Codes for the Walk Up Display By enabling these codes, the user can limit the commands available to users of the Walk Up Display. Users who know one of the Administrator codes can complete all of the commands. Users with an Operator code can perform most commands for normal operations of the well. Certain commands, such as READ/SET 32 for the SD Card, are restricted to Administrators only. To specify access codes 1. Open WellVision and connect to the controller. 2. On the Setup tab, select the Keypad Config button in the ToolBox area. 3. In the Keypad Configuration dialog box, enter 4 numbers in the Admin and Operator columns of the Keypad Login Pins area. 4. Select the Set button. After enabling the access codes, the user might want to verify the codes using the keypad. The following procedure tests an operator code and then an administrator code using the Administratoronly command for the SD Card. 33 Connecting to the PCS Ferguson Well Site SCADA Components
34 To verify the access codes 1. On the Walk Up Display, press READ ENTER to display the prompt for the security code. Figure 2.10 READ ENTER turns on the display. 2.
