Engineering, P.E.S s Modern College of Engineering, Pune Abstract Our system is meant for monitoring the patient even from a distance and keep doctor updated with the health report. The physiological parameters like temperature and pulse will be mapped by temperature sensor and pulse sensor. The basic use of sensor is to map and convert the physical parameters to digital and give them to our microcontroller. This data is then sent to the mobile app through Bluetooth to maintain patient s record. Whenever the reading from the sensor crosses the doctor s set threshold, an alarm will be set on and an alert message will be sent to the doctor. The level sensor is used to detect the level of saline bottle and indicate when it is about to finish. Also auto saline refill facility can be enabled when required. Here the user can set the input which will denote the number of times saline. A database is created which stores first 50 sensor values in a stack. I. INTRODUCTION When it comes to medical emergencies, the doctor s team is available at hospitals all the time, but when a patient is situated at home, doctor s monitoring becomes difficult. Specially, care taking is a basic requirement of elderly individuals. At that time to avoid the frequent doctor s visit our system can come in handy. The efforts of the doctor can be reduced by using his android phone and simple electronic devices. 2 database. The doctor will get updates about his patients and can prescribe what should measures need to be taken. We have proposed a system in which some certain physiological parameters can be gauged and observed on an android phone. The serial transmission from the microcontroller ATMEGA 32 goes to Blue Bluetooth module and this gets paired up with the app on the phone via phone s Bluetooth. An early warning will be notified to the doctor so as to prevent patient s physiological condition s deterioration. An alarm will turn on to get an attention of someone around. The doctor at the same time can arrange some help to reach out to the patient. If the patient is on saline, the level sensor will keep monitoring its level and notify when liquid is over. One can also use the auto refill help offered by our system. Where one will need to set the number of times the refilling is needed via GUI of the app. The app is system dependent application. The benefit of using Bluetooth over Zigbee is that an interactive GUI can be made. The other benefit is remote monitoring of patient becomes possible. The cost reduces as regular android cell phones are used instead of high end devices. II. LITERATURE SURVEY In the last century, different kinds of system have been proposed by different researchers and some of them are reviewed below:- Mr. Surbhit Jain, Prof. Anshu Gupta and Prof. Praveen Kumar Malviya presented A Zigbee based Wireless Patient s Monitoring System. They explained [1] about the design and development of a Zigbee based body parameters monitoring device. The system can be used to monitor parameters. The goal is to design and form a reliable, low cost, less powered and correct system that can be used regularly and monitor the body based on IEEE technology. This will sense if a person is distressed and receiver unit that is connected to a computer it will plot graph for monitored parameters of body. Mainly used for collecting and sending the monitored data using Temperature Sensor, Heart Beat Sensor about the patients in hospitals. The use of Matlab window is done for representing patient s current status. Pradip S. Bhendwade and Ms. Sarika M. Patil [2] worked on Patient monitoring system using MSP430 microcontroller. In medical field during treatment, main aim is to monitor body signals of the patient and signals include pulse rate, level sensor and digital temperature sensor. It is hard for doctor to monitor everyone for a whole day. They introduced the system in which TIC MSP 430 microcontroller is used to save energy efficiently and collect data then send it to PC using Ethernet controller and signal is shown on LCD. Ethernet uses access method called Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) access method. CSMA/CD simply means that the computers all have access to the transmission medium, and can send and receive data, when the network is idle. The advantage of Ethernet is that it has the ability to sense traffic on the network. When a node on an Ethernet network wants to send information to another node, it first listens to the network to see if there is network traffic. And if there is no traffic, it will begin this 7086

3 by sending the data. So the patient can be analyzed by doctor or staff from central location or from their computer. S.Gayathri, N. Rajkumar, V. Vinothkumar [3] worked on Human health monitoring system using wearable sensors Their main focus was to build the health monitoring system, which tracked data continuously with wearable sensors. They monitor the parameters of the body like temperature, pressure, heart beat by using sensors and also display the values on LCD. In their case system needs PIC16F877A and the simulation results are fulfilled by PROTEUS 8. For any type of emergency alert message is send to the ambulance or to the mobile phone using GSM. The aim of GSM is to provide mobile healthcare that will be used in remote areas. This will reduce the time, easy to use and also for self monitoring the patients anywhere. Pramodkumar S., Rajendra Chincholi presented Realization of biomedical parameters of human body and its monitoring using power line communication technology. Their system [4] was based on Power line systems use the electrical power lines to send data. In recent power lines have been used for data less than 30kbps for communication in much application like power distribution, automation. Their focus is to have an observation of patient and body functions from a distance. The distance may be taken as ICU room to monitoring room. Patient monitoring includes continuously measurement and displays data, such as heart rate, body temperature and respiration rate. In this work, system consists of embedded systems and communication channel has been designed for transmitting real data mentioned above. Two topologies have been implemented they are at first two wires has been used as a channel for basic embedded system and secondly power line was used as a transmission channel for the same purpose at other side GSM is used for sending SMS to mobile. This is an easy and low cost way of effectively using the power line network for sending and receiving biomedical data. Amna Abdullah, Asma Ismael, Aisha Rashid, Ali Abou-ElNour, and Mohammed Tarique worked on [5] Real time wireless heath monitoring application using mobile devices. Their goal was to develop a reliable patient monitoring system so that the healthcare for monitoring the patients, who are hospitalized. In this work they presented a mobile device based wireless healthcare monitoring system that can provide information about conditions of a patient. The system is designed to measure and monitor important physiological data of a patient in order to accurately describe the status of health. In addition to the proposed system is able to send alert message about the critical health data by text messages or by reports. By using the data contained in the text or message. The system mainly consists of sensors, Arduino controller and Lab VIEW. The patient s data are monitored, displayed, and stored by their system. The results show that system is able to measure the patient s physiological data with a very high accuracy. To ensure reliability and accuracy the proposed system has been field tested. III. PROPOSED SYSTEM A. System architecture 7087

Hardware Implementation The hardware side includes ATMEGA 32 microcontroller, Pulse, Temperature and level sensor, ULN2803, dc motor, BT module, android phone. This system is used to monitor the different physiological parameters of the patient. The parameters consist of temperature, pulse rate. Parameters of each patient are recorded with the help of microcontroller. The temperature and pulse sensor measures the physiological parameters; these values are then sent to the controller circuit. The Microcontroller reads the signal from the sensors. The ADC in the controller circuit will process the data and condition it. This is then sent to the android using Bluetooth module. The Apk file created on Eclipse is installed in the android phone. This software inside android will read and display those values and will send that to doctor via SMS. We used which is Bluetooth serial port module and used for wireless connection with 2.4GHz. It is cheap, popular and easily available. The values from controller travel to Android phone via. At first we need to scan for the device (module) IP address and when connection established values are displayed on phone (Bluetooth of the phone will be turn on automatically.) Up to 8 devices can be paired. For auto saline refill facility to work the counter value is selected by the user. The level sensor is used to detect the level of saline bottle, when this level goes to zero state or empty state then auto filling of the saline bottles by using DC Motor pump will take place. Dc motors are used when there is flow of water from one bottle to other. Rotation speed is an important factor to consider. According to counter values it will rotate and pump will suck the water from one bottle and through it on second one. ULN2803 is a dc motor driver and it is connected to port B of controller. It has Darlington arrays furnished in 18-pin dual in-line packages and all transistors are connected in Darlington pair i.e. base of one transistor connected to collector of the next. Buzzer is attached to the one of its pin. Eight Darlington 7088

5 pairs are with common emitter and open collector outputs. The hardware use is economical, thus making the system of low cost. The delays in the hardware side managed to stay small, making it less time consuming. B. Flow chart Figure 2: Hardware Design 7089

6 From the GUI, two modes can be selected. When patient monitoring is selected i.e. MODE 1. The physiological parameters will be read. An alert message will be sent to the doctor via android app when the condition is not normal. The same part will be checking the saline level and a buzzer will set when empty. When auto refill i.e. MODE 2 is set, the GUI lets the user set the counter for auto refilling. Whenever empty the code will check the counter and decrement it to get the refilling through DC motor pump driven by ULN. C. Software Implementation Figure 3: Software Design The software implementation starts with selecting the login id for the user/doctor, when doctor validates himself he is next asked to select a phone no. for emergency. Later the Bluetooth pairing will be done. In the main field app, on control will start the process and start monitoring all the sensors giving an update to the doctor. V. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION In this system we have successfully learnt functional diagram and operation of system. Depending upon this diagram we are designing a system which will help in health monitoring using android mobiles and in critical case we have an alarm system. We are developing the basic application which is the interface between android which will be near to the patient and sensors values are transferred on that phone via Bluetooth and via a simple SMS to doctor s phone. With the help of auto fill system we can sense the value of water in bottle and using counter in software we can refill it. VI. CONCLUSION The proposed health monitoring system is basically for patients even if doctors are not present physically. The process is divided in two sections. Person s healthcare could be taken by sending his body value to doctor s phone via app when far away from hospital. In second part we auto filled the saline bottles by using DC Motor pump. 7090
