4 Environment Setup: Point to point PC 56K Modem PP2I IrDA palmone What you can do with your palmone PDA using 3JTech s IrDA Modem: 1. HotSync with your PC 1) Data exchange between your PC & PDA. 2) Sending & receiving via your PC. 2. Internet browsing & direct ing (also see the separate 3JTech Pegasus III Infrared modem user s manual) 4

The Modem can also be used with Personal Computers through its serial port with the included serial cable. The modem firmware can be customized to meet a variety of needs.

5 INTRODUCTION 3JTech s Pegasus III series is a high-speed modem that supports Infrared wireless and serial port (RS232) connectivity. The Infrared modem extends the function of your PDA, and is a great travel-mate for , Internet connection, and data transfer. The Modem can also be used with Personal Computers through its serial port with the included serial cable. The modem firmware can be customized to meet a variety of needs. For modification of the modem firmware for a custom application please contact 3JTech at tech@3jtech.com. The modem is battery operated or can use the included AC Adapter. It uses 4 AAA rechargeable or disposal batteries. Unlike other modem solutions it does not drain power from your PDA battery. This user s manual explains how to setup your modem for basic use with palmone handhelds. Please refer to your handheld s manual for additional details on the palmone applications. 1. How to set up a modem connection. 1.1 How to add a new modem connection 1. Turn on your palmone and tap on All on the top right hand corner, the menu will drop down and tap on System as shown in Figure Figure

Via: select Infrared. 7. Choose TouchTone as default. 8. Volume: tap on the down arrow. Choose a volume of your choice otherwise choose Low as default. 9. Tap on Details 10. Speed: tap on the down arrow and select 57,600bps. 11. Flow Ctl: select Off. 12. Init string: leave it as blank. 6

13. Click OK. There will then be a new Connection shown as pp2i, shown as figure 1.1.4. Figure 1.1.4 1.

To disable this power mode, please use the following AT command: atz ats63.

There will then be a new Connection shown as pp2i, shown as figure Figure Modem Power Management By default the pp2i modem will automatically power down after one minute if the phone line is disconnected. To disable this power mode, please use the following AT command: atz ats63.1=1 (type this command to Disable power-down mode) atz After type these three commands then reset the modem. 1.3 LED Status Green: Power On. When switching to MR or IR, the modem will power on. Red: Low battery (under 4V) 7

9 3. Enter the user name and password. 4. After completing the entire setup, tap on Connect to dial. The Singing on message will display when you successfully connect to the dial up service as shown in figure Figure Note: When attempting to connect, if the password or the user name is incorrect, the error message will appear as in figure If the modem is not found, an error message as in, figure will display. 13 5. Sending & Receiving s though an ISP using VersaMail 5.1. Setting VersaMail 1. After installing VersaMail (if not pre-installed), tap on the icon to start the program, as shown in figure Note: The appearance of icons varies slightly among different handheld models. The icons on your handheld (for example, the Prefs icon or the Home icon) may look different from the icons shown below. Figure Tap on VersaMail and select Accounts. Tap on "Account Setup " from the drop-down menu as shown in figure Figure
