1 LSI for Car Navigation Systems/ Digital Dashboards Realizing the Next-Generation Automotive Terminal System on a single chip A 1-chip system LSI integrating an ARM926EJ-S core and all necessary functions such as 2D/3D graphics, automotive telecommunication, and various media interfaces for use in next-generation automotive terminals such as those for car navigation systems and digital dashboards. Overview This product is a system LSI that includes all built-in functions necessary for a car navigation-human interface on a single chip. With a built-in full-scale 2D/3D graphics controller, it executes the graphics processing necessary for car navigation systems and dashboards with high resolution at high speed. Furthermore, through the adoption of the ARM core, which has the predominant share in the built-in market, as the control CPU, the integrating of various middleware and drivers onto the system is simplified. It also realizes a program protection function, preventing unauthorized reading and data tampering. Product Features 2D/3D graphics functions This product adopts 2D/3D graphics functions that are fully compatible with the built-in graphics controller in MB8629x Series. In addition to the full-scale 3D rendering functions such as Gouraud shading and texture mapping, bold line, broken line, and diagonal line, which are optimal for maps, are supported by the hardware. By combining these with the antialiasing function, rendering of clear straight lines without edge roughness is possible. In addition, rendering can be executed with reference to depth, thus enabling the simple expression of intersections and overhead crossings. Fig.2 shows various rendering functions. Display functions To collect and deliver various different types of information to the driver in a timely and easily comprehensible fashion so as to support safe driving, screen superposition is an extremely convenient function. This product is capable of superimposing up to 6 planes ( plane). For example, the bottom layer can display the map data and the layers above it can display the data from the automotive telecommunication system via CAN and the road traffic information from ITS so that data from different sources are processed separately; they can be synthesized at the end. In addition to the above functions, we have newly added the simultaneous 2-screen display and 2 capture function systems. This will enable the simple construction of a rear-seat entertainment environment that allows viewing of DVDs and TV in the back seat. Fig.3 shows the screen layer structure. 3 Video capture function In addition to the purpose of enjoying DVDs and TV in automobiles, the popularity of built-in cameras used to capture images both inside and outside vehicles to improve safety has been increasing. Troubles may arise however from the distortion due to the wide-angle lens that is adopted to ensure a good field of view for the driver. This product is capable of displaying the images shot by rear cameras, etc. without distortion by using the video texture mapping function (Photo 2). 4 Adopting ARM core ARM926EJ-S ARM926EJ-S is an optimal CPU for multimedia applications. It is also capable of adopting various OSs such as Windows Automotive and ITRON. For details about ARM, please access the ARM web site: ARMProcessor_Cores/index.html Rich built-in peripheral interfaces for automotive telecommunication/media network In the field of automotive electronics, the integration of automotive control systems and infotainment systems is accelerating. This product offers rich built-in peripheral I/Os including CAN and MediaLB as automotive telecommunication interfaces, USB as the multimedia interface, IDE66 (Parallel- ATA/ATAPI-5) as the hard disk interface, and I 2 S as the audio interface. It is capable of meeting various needs from automotive telecommunication control to multimedia processing with a single chip (Fig.4). Addresses program protection functions In recent years, the digitalization of dashboards has been accelerating and the trend has been to concurrently adopt external Flash-ROM to store the basic software. In this context, there is increased importance to develop measures against unauthorized reading and tampering of ROM codes (Fig.5). This product satisfied these needs quickly and delivered program protection functions. Customers can use encrypted programs by defining the keys themselves. Fig.6 shows some application examples.
