6 6 As smartphones connect us everywhere, the need for ubiquitous location increases By 2020, 80% of population will have access to 3G/4G networks worldwide (GSMA) GNSS-complementary technologies enable smartphones to deliver an optimised positioning solution MEMS Signals of Opportunity Machine learning techniques Smartphone chipset manufacturers are incorporating chip-based indoor location positioning technologies A new generation of smartphones will be factoryready for indoor positioning anywhere however GNSS will remain the most important resource to bring location once out of the doorstep

7 7 Multi-constellation improves availability in urban environments The need to provide enhanced geolocation capabilities in deep urban environment drives the uptake of multi-constellation receivers Galileo is already adopted by the 40% of models from main chipset manufacturers:

8 8 Innovative software developments promise enhanced accuracy to mass market users Despite pseudorange and carrier phase observables for all signals tracked are available at chipset level, traditional operating systems do not make them available for users Having access to such additional information would allow sophisticated users to use: RTK precise positioning SBAS corrections The recently presented Google Android Nougat makes available raw GNSS measurements. It enables new possibilities to application developers

9 9 The demand for further accuracy will support the uptake of dual frequency in mass market Historically, GNSS chipsets for a mass market use are single frequency ones Recently, the interest for dual frequency is increasing: Enabled by semiconductor s industry development Pushed by the use of applications more and more demanding in terms of location It will enable app developers to further narrow the gap between professional and mass-market applications Leading chipset manufactures are already presenting results from their prototypes GSA&Broadcom workshop at ION GNSS+, Portland, Oregon September 2016

10 10 IoT is driving power efficiency and miniaturisation at all levels, GNSS is not the exception Innovation in all IoT dimensions Sensing Connectivity Processing Towards smart dust and sensor networks Low-cost, low-power sensors no larger than the size of a grain of sand will be soon in production. The deployment of Low- Power Wide Area Networks fuels IoT growth LPWAN is a technology focusing on range and power efficiency as required by many IoT applications. Cloud processing reduces power consumption at device level Cloud GNSS receivers utilise cloudbased processing services, offloading most of the processing and energyconsuming tasks to the cloud.

13 13 Call description Scope:Proposals should aim at developing new innovative applications, with commercial impact and a clear market uptake perspective. Below are some areas which are identified as especially promising for further EGNSS applications development: Mobility as a service and Smart Cities: Development of EGNSS solutions for cross-modal mobility and new emerging mobility as a service approach should be addressed, in which the user does not buy a vehicle or a public transport ticket, but a service to comply with her/his mobility needs. This area may include innovative telematics applications in which the positioning, timing and navigation are used both to deliver the mobility service and to calculate a fair price based on the actual use of it. Development of EGNSS solutions for other areas of future Smart Cities are also included in the scope. Internet of things: Development of EGNSS solutions for internet of things should be addressed, exploiting the interconnectivity of uniquely identifiable devices and the availability of their location. Proposals should duly reflect the fact that the internet of things is not only improving productivity and efficiency of organisations (with applications in almost every sector of the economy, from automotive to consumer electronics, healthcare or manufacturing and logistics), but that the internet of things technology is also changing our daily lives. Commercial and social LBS: Proposals should address one of the two following application areas. 1) Applications for commercial LBS, such as: secure financial transactions; mobile workforce management, tracking solutions; augmented reality; social networking and sport. 2) Applications for social LBS, such as: safety and emergency (E112), e-health (health services more and more connected), and solutions supporting visual and mobility of impaired people.
