Challenge 2 : Instability of power supply in vehicles Solution : Exclusive icell and idata Guard technologies to protect your data during abnormal power loss Innodisk s exclusive icell and idata Guard are integrated SSD technologies that utilize our firmware and hardware designs. In the event of an abnormal power loss, the data protection algorithm activates and holds data commands from the host. This design can prevent incomplete data from being recorded and corrupting valid data on the device. The icell s multiple capacitor design provides a battery backup so that the external DRAM can be safely saved to flash storage. Challenge 3 : Power shortage in vehicles Solution : Low power consumption (DEVSLP) Energy consumption and efficiency of fuel usage are the keys to maintaining optimal performance of a vehicle s system. Innodisk s SSD supports an extremely low power consumption mode by using DEVSLP. In this hibernation operation mode, our SSD only consumes as little as 5mWs. 5 Challenge 4 : High temperatures effecting systems in vehicles Solution : Thermal sensor Built-in thermal sensor inside the SSD will throttle the performance to prolong the operation of the drive to meet thermal limits. Dynamic throttle is a technique in computer architecture whereby the frequency of a microprocessor can be automatically adjusted on the fly, in order to get a more stable operation behavior. Challenge 5 : Shock and vibration caused by a moving vehicle Solution : Military standard shock-resistance and rugged DRAM design Our in-vehicle computing flash and DRAM products are compliant with the US military standard MIL-STD-810F/G, for shock and vibration. Normally the PCB and the main board are connected by a slot, but our rugged DRAM design uses a customized mounting pad, which makes the device less likely to be affected by vibrations. In addition, it interrupts the signals of the gold contacts and ensures more reliable and stable DRAM operation. Challenge 6 : The dusty and humid environment of the vehicle Solution : Conformal coating to protect the open components on a circuit board Innodisk has the in-house ability to apply conformal coating on flash and DRAM PCBs. The conformal coating is a non-conductive cover that is about mm thick. It is compliant with MIL- I-46058C, and acceptable by IPC-A-610 electronic component standards. All coated components are resistant to moisture, dirt, dust, and chemicals. Innodisk is proud to partner with industry leader HumiSeal for our raw materials. The entire process takes place in a dust-free facility to prevent other substances from contaminating the product during transportation. 10 SSD Stabilizes Operational Flow for Mining Fleet Management The Situation An Australian mining company had challenges with the transport and communications procedures between their vehicles, mining operation hubs, and their mineral processing plant. Their procedures and monitoring engagement were no longer effective, especially when mining dig sites could potentially move further away from operation hubs and processing plants. These methods made it difficult to maintain an operational flow of information, while ensuring efficient communications with each mining phase. As a safe guard, the company moved from a paper system to digital data management. This transition did improve efficiencies in operations and communications, such as routing systems that calculated distance and timeliness of distribution for the production load, and vehicle tracking control by collecting logging information of different vehicle locations. Moreover, it allowed fleet management to communicate more effectively with drivers, track vehicles, and generate more productivity for the control center. The system the client developed was a mining management system with a customized PC on the dashboard of the vehicle. It monitored their location to the hub and the mining plant as well as communicated that data to their control center. For this type of data management, the customer used a commercial SSD device for storage, which was frequently unreliable due to the constant vibration of the vehicle in motion. Also playing a factor were the harsh environmental conditions. The locations were cold, dusty and humid. These conditions affected their in-vehicle systems and cause frequent instability. The commercial grade SSD device they chose did not perform under the stringent environmental challenges that existed and was not able to provide the real-time data needed to monitor all aspects of their in-vehicle fleet process.

After further review by the customer, it was determined that the EMUC- B201-W1 CANbus met those qualifications.

This project required an external interface to a system that their current product line did not feature. The company needed a rugged CANbus Peripheral Card that operated at -40 C to 85 C per MIL Spec 810G along with driver support to Windows 64bit 8.1, and Linux operating systems. The Solution The customer s main product focus was peripheral cards and based upon our research, it was recommended that they test the EMUC-B201-W1 CANbus Peripheral Card. After further review by the customer, it was determined that the EMUC- B201-W1 CANbus met those qualifications. Innodisk made samples available for evaluation, and shortly afterwards were sent for testing. From the initial samples, Innodisk worked with the customer to get the functionality requirements in supporting their Linux distro and delivery of the full drivers arrived within 45 days. After testing, the customer qualified the product for both Windows and Linux for two new projects. This project was set for production in Q2 2016, with initial orders in the hundreds. The Pay Off Understanding these confidential requirements and the tall ordering needs for military use, our talented Innodisk team managed to find the solution that would seamlessly fit the customers expectations. In addition, the project allowed Innodisk to find a customer base with our very unique product line in a highly classified industry. As a bonus, two new programs using the CANbus Card expanded our products sold to this military customer and it opened the door for new products to be qualified.
