2 Introduction Introduction This document describes system requirements, important notes, new and changed information, installation and upgrade procedures, an caveats for CB21AG and PI21AG client adapters on computers that are running the Windows Vista operating system. System Requirements You need the following items in order to install and use the software: One of the following Cisco Aironet client adapters: CB21AG PC-Cardbus card. PI21AG PCI card. Note Cisco does not support the use of this client adapter software on anything but the CB21AG PC-Cardbus card or the PI21AG PCI card. A computer with a 1-GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor. Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or Windows Vista with Microsoft KB and KB hotfixes. The software supports Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate operating systems. 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space. 1 GB of system memory. EAP versions: EAP-FAST verion PEAP version LEAP version If your wireless network uses EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication, you need Certificate Authority (CA) and user certificates for EAP-TLS authentication or CA certificate for PEAP authentication. If your wireless network uses PEAP (EAP-GTC) authentication with a One-Time Password (OTP) user database, you need the following: A hardware token device from OTP vendors or the Secure Computing SofToken program (2.1 or later). Your hardware or software token password. All necessary infrastructure devices (such as access points, servers, gateways, user databases, etc.) properly configured for any authentication type you plan to enable on the client. The following information from your system administrator: The logical name for your workstation (also referred to as client name). The protocols necessary to bind to the client adapter, such as TCP/IP. The case-sensitive service set identifier (SSID) for your RF network. If your network setup does not include a DHCP server, you need the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway address of your computer. 2

3 Important Notes The wired equivalent privacy (WEP) keys of the access points with which your client adapter will communicate, if your wireless network uses static WEP for security The username and password for your network account Protected access credentials (PAC) file if your wireless network uses EAP-FAST authentication with manual PAC provisioning If you want the client adapter to use Management Frame Protection (MFP), you need to run software release or later on the Wireless LAN Controller. Important Notes EAP-FAST with EAP-GTC as Authentication Method For single sign-on to work when an EAP-FAST profile is used and the selected authentication method is EAP-GTC, you must check the Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network check box, which is in the Security tab. The credentials pop-up dialog box appears with the first authentication. Installing or Upgrading Client Adapter Software This section describes how to initially install or upgrade to CB21AG and PI21AG software release 1.0 on a computer running Windows Vista. If the client adapter software is not installed on your computer, follow the instructions in the Installing the Client Adapter Software for the First Time section on page 3. If you are upgrading your client adapter software, follow the instructions in the Upgrading the Client Adapter Software section on page 8. Installing the Client Adapter Software for the First Time Caution Do not install the CB21AG or PI21AG software for Windows Vista on computers that are not running Windows Vista. The Aironet Desktop Utility (ADU) must be used with CB21AG and PI21AG cards on computers that are running the Windows 2000 or XP operating system. Caution Do not eject your client adapter at any time during the installation process, including during the reboot. Note Only one CB21AG or PI21AG client adapter can be installed and used at a time. The software does not support the use of multiple CB21AG or PI21AG cards. Note You can also obtain the software from the CD that was shipped with the CB21AG or PI21AG device. To use the CD, open the FileList.txt file on the CD root directory. Obtaining the software from Cisco.com ensures that you have the most recent version of the software. 3

4 Follow these steps to install the client adapter software for the first time: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Make sure that the client adapter is inserted into your computer. Make sure that you have a Cisco.com username and password. If you do not have a Cisco.com username and password, go to Cisco s main page ( and click Register (top). When prompted, enter your Cisco.com username and password, and click OK. Click Windows Vista. Under Available Releases, determine whether the Install Wizard file on Cisco.com has a later version number than the file on the CD. If it does, proceed to the next step. If it does not, you can use the software file on the CD that shipped with the CB21AG or PI21AG. Click the link with the latest release number. Click the software file (WinClient a-b-g-Vista-Ins-Wizard-vxx.exe), where xx is the version number. Click Download. Read the terms and conditions of the Software License Agreement. 13 Caveats Caveats This section describes the open and resolved caveats for the software components in this release. Open Caveats The following caveats are open in release 1.0: CSCsl63780 The client adapter sometimes sends an invalid radio measurement report to a requesting access point In an environment with multiple access points, when an access point requests a radio measurement report, the client sometimes sends a report with invalid information. Workaround: None. CSCsm04853 The data rate of a client adapter exceeds the amount that an access point allows An access point is configured to support a maximum data rate of 6 Mbps, but the client adapter shows a data rate of up to 54 Mbps. Workaround: None. CSCsm13393 CCKM appears as a security option for an ad hoc profile The Cisco Centralized Key Management (CCKM) option appears for an ad hoc profile, but an ad hoc network cannot support CCKM security. Workaround: Do not select the CCKM option for an ad hoc profile. CSCsm81258 Walkabout failed while doing radio monitoring After roaming to multiple access point and performing radio monitoring, there is not radio monitoring data available in the WLSE fault reporting function for radio management calculations. Workaround: None. CSCso76030 WPA with TKIP fails in an older hardware version WPA with LEAP, PEAP-GTC, and EAP-FAST fails authentication with hardware version Workaround: If you have an older adpater and encounter this behavior, use WPA2 with AES. CSCso86001 When FTP is running, unplugging the client adapter causes operating system blue screen The client adapter is configured with a profile that uses 802.1X with LEAP authentication. After an FTP session is established, the adapter is unplugged. The computer must be rebooted after the operating system blue screen appears. Workaround: Do not unplug the client adapter when in heavy traffic conditions. CSCso99074 The client remains associated with an access point even when the access point does not have sufficient capacity The client is associated with an access point. The access point then rejects the client. The client does not roam to another access point but instead stays with the first access point. Workaround: None. 13

14 Getting Bug Information on Cisco.com CSCsq03569 The client does not reassociate with the access point after manual deauthentication A controller is configured so that Management Frame Protection (MFP) is optional on the wireless LAN. The client associates with WPA2 with MFP and AES-CCMP. The controller shows that the client has negotiated MFP successfully. After the controller issues a deauthentication frame to the client, however, the client does not reassociate successfully. Workaround: Reattempt to reconnect using the same profile. CSCsq03578 The client does not reassociate with the access point after the access point sets client MFP to none The client does not reassociate successfully after the access point sets client MFP from optional to none. Workaround: Reattempt to reconnect using the same profile. Getting Bug Information on Cisco.com If you are a Cisco registered user, you can use the Cisco TAC Software Bug Toolkit, which consists of three tools (Bug Navigator, Bug Watcher, and Search by Bug ID Number) that help you to identify existing bugs (or caveats) in Cisco software products. Access the TAC Software Bug Toolkit at the following URL: Troubleshooting For the most up-to-date, detailed troubleshooting information, refer to the Cisco TAC website at Click Product Support > Wireless. Then choose your product and Troubleshooting to find information on the problem you are experiencing.
