1 Snap Server 4400 Power Supply Snap Server 4400 Note You can set up your system to send an alert in the event of a hardware failure. For details, see the section on notification in your Administrator Guide. These instructions explain how to replace the power supply on the Snap Server Tools Required Phillips screwdriver Overview of the Procedure To replace the power supply, you perform the following tasks: Shut down the server and disconnect the power cord Remove the top cover and fan assembly Remove the power supply and replace it with the new one Replace the fan assembly and top cover Connect the power cord and restart the server Shutting Down the Server Caution Shut down the server before you make any repairs. Improper shutdown may lead to loss of data or physical harm. 1 To start the shutdown process, press the power button on the front of the server. The green power LED remains lit until the shutdown process is complete. Do not disconnect the AC power cord while the LED remains lit. Power button 2 After the power LED is off, disconnect the AC power cord from the back of the server. 3 If you need to remove the server from a rack to access to the back panel, disconnect the Ethernet cable(s). 2 Snap Server 4400 Power Supply Snap Server 4400 Removing the Top Cover and the Fan Assembly 1 Press both top cover release latches toward the center. 2 Still pressing the latches, slide the front edge of the top cover back about 1 inch. 3 Lift off the top cover and set it aside. 2 Field Service Documentation

3 Snap Server 4400 Snap Server 4400 Power Supply 4 Grasp the fan assembly and lift it straight up. Notice the two locating pins on the floor of the server chassis. Fan assembly locating pins 5 Set the fan assembly aside in a safe place. You install it again later in the procedure. Field Service Documentation 3

4 Snap Server 4400 Power Supply Snap Server 4400 Removing and Replacing the Power Supply 1 On the back of the server, remove the 4 screws that secure the power supply to the server. Set the screws aside in a safe place. You use them to attach the new power supply. 4 Field Service Documentation

6 Snap Server 4400 Power Supply Snap Server Slide the old power supply toward the front of the server, as far as it can go. This makes it possible to clear the tab (on the chassis floor) when you lift out the power supply. Front of server chassis Tab on floor of chassis 4 Lift out the failed power supply and set it aside. 5 Install the new power supply, taking care to clear the tab on the chassis floor, and slide it back against the rear of the server. 6 Plug the power cords into their connectors. 7 Reattach the 4 screws that secure the power supply to the chassis. 6 Field Service Documentation

7 Snap Server 4400 Snap Server 4400 Power Supply Replacing the Fan Assembly and Top Cover 1 Lower the fan into place, being careful to align its power plug with the connector. 2 Press down on the fan assembly to ensure that it is seated correctly. 3 Lower the top cover onto the server so the front edge of the cover is about 1 inch from the edge of the bezel. Caution Be sure to replace the top cover. Do not operate the server without the top cover in place. Field Service Documentation 7

8 Snap Server 4400 Power Supply Snap Server Pressing the top cover latches toward the center, slide the front edge of the cover all the way forward. 5 Make sure the top cover latches are securely in the locked position. Restoring Power to the Server 1 If you disconnected the Ethernet cable(s), reattach them to the server. 2 Connect the power cord. 3 Press the power button on the front of the server. Congratulations!
