4 1.0 Warnings For personnel safety, when not mounted on a rack, the metal enclosure of the 600-6SL chassis must be earth grounded. Connect an AWG18 wire to the ring lug at the rear of the 600-6SL chassis and connect the other side of the wire to a good earth ground. 1.1 Removing and Replacing 600-SM Modules Caution: 600-SM modules must be retained and handled under ESD control. Caution: Removal or installation of 600-SM modules must be done with the 600-6SL powered OFF and under ESD control Caution: Install front and rear blank panels provided with the 600-6SL in empty slots when 600-SM modules are relocated in the chassis. 2.0 Introduction The Model 600 Series is a high-performance transparent switching solution utilizes the 600-6SL (6-Slot Chassis) to power and control a variety of compatible switching matrix modules. This high-bandwidth, compact offering is designed to automate testing of VDSL2 Vectoring and G.fast devices. Different module types may be combined within one chassis and the system can be expanded by adding as many chassis and modules as needed. Connectors on each module are designated as either Input or Output. They are further identified by letters and numbers, allowing them to be addressed directly via remote commands or the 600 SERIES Control Center software. For example, the Model 600-SM , which has a 1 x 32 matrix, identifies the one OUTPUT connector with the letter A and INPUT side with the numbers In the Model 600-SM a single bidirectional path is selected to connect Output A to any of the 32 possible Input Paths. Any INPUT that is not connected to an OUTPUT is terminated automatically. The Model 600-6SL is shown with two 600-SM Switching Matrix modules installed. 10 4.0 Control Output and Input Channel Associations Control of the 600 SERIES modules consists of selecting a slot number within the 600-6SL chassis to address the target module as well as setting and terminating connections between Input and Output channels. Slots are identified by two-digit numbers from 01 to 06. With Slot number 01 being the topmost slot in the 600-6SL chassis. Output Channels are identified by letters and Input Channels by numbers. For modules that have more than one Output Channel, the associated Input Channels are referred to by a combination of the Output Channel letter and Input Channel number. Termination is available at the slot level (all channels on the module located in that slot are terminated) or an individual channel basis. Each Input and Output connection contains 100 Ohm impedance terminations and has a default state of terminated. 16 SERIES Control Center Software MAIN Screen Enter the IP address of the 600-6SL chassis in a web browser and press Enter to launch the MAIN screen. 17 Log In When the Authentication Required dialogue box is shown, enter the User Name and Password and then click Log In. 18 4.2.2 Set Static IP From the MAIN screen, select 600-6SL Configuration. The SET STATIC IP screen is shown. Make any changes needed and click Submit. 600 SERIES Transparent Switching Matrix Modules Reference Manual Page 15 of 21

19 4.2.3 Test Setup From the MAIN screen, select Test Setup. The TEST CONFIGURATION screen is displayed. All modules installed are shown in their respective chassis slots. In the screen example above, the module in Slot 1 is terminated. This terminates all Inputs. The module in Slot 3 is configured to associate each of 8 Outputs (A-H) with Input channel 1. The module in Slot 5 is configured to terminate Output A, associate Output B with Input 8, Output C with Input 5 and Output D with Input 2. MODULES INSTALLED: Displays the model number of the switch installed in the associated slot. To see the serial number of the unit, mouse over the information symbol. TERM SLOT: Terminates all outputs and inputs for the module in the associated slot. To uncheck this box, select an Input value to associate it with the module s Output value. OUTPUT/INPUT: Each Output connection is either associated with a particular Input connection or it is terminated. 20 4.3 Upgrade Firmware This process can take approximately 40 minutes, depending on the connection speed on the 600. Telebyte recommends the use of Google Chrome browser (version & update versions ) for the most stability. Place the new firmware upgrade file (Mux-X.X.X.telebyte) on the remote PC. From the MAIN SCREEN, select Upgrade Firmware. An example of the Upgrade Firmware screen is shown above. Retain Current IP: Check this box to retain the IP settings, if desired. Select Firmware File: Click Choose File to search for and select the remote PC containing the firmware file. The filename of Mux-x.x.x.telebyte (where x.x.x represents the new firmware version) should be available for selection. 600 SERIES Transparent Switching Matrix Modules Reference Manual Page 17 of 21

21 UPGRADE: Click the UPGRADE button to begin the firmware upgrade. The following screen is shown and displays for approximately 10 minutes: The following screen then displays a Progress Bar for approximately 40 minutes: The message Firmware Upgrade Successful is shown when the firmware upgrade is complete. Press OK and wait 3 minutes for the system to reboot. Type the IP address of the 600 system into the web browser to reestablish the connection.
