The paste will help keep the solder from sticking to the other pins. Cover all pins well. Make sure the IC is glued in place and flush before you start.

One spot under the IC will hold it in place. You must use solder paste on the pins. YOU ONLY GET ONE SHOT AT THIS, SO BE CAREFUL. Use very little solder on the tip. You don t need much. The paste will help keep the solder from sticking to the other pins. Cover all pins well. Make sure the IC is glued in place and flush before you start. Repeat for the USB jack on the USB board that will be installed on the larger board later. NOTE: If the smaller USB board did not come separate, then you must remove it from the corner of the main PCB. Be careful not to cut the traces. If you want to use IC sockets you can. Once you have the USB parts done, install all other parts on the PCB. Start with resistors first then the other parts. Watch for correct direction on IC, diodes, transistors and caps.

Do not install LEDs or the USB board yet. Install only the component side parts first. The led s, switches, horn and USB board go on the solder side of the board. Before we install those parts we need to glue the faceplate to the box and drill the holes. The box comes with the polarity switch and USB cutout. Use PVC glue and cover the box side where the face plate fits. Don t use too much so that when you press the faceplate down glue will come out around the sides. Move the faceplate while the glue is still wet so that the USB and switch hole lines up. Let glue dry for an hour or so. Try not to get glue on the faceplate because it is hard to get off. Drill the holes the size of the colors shown above. Red, all LED s and Horn. Black all push button switches. Green Signal input. Blue all toggle switches and the HP.

All component side parts should be in. Now we need to install the parts on the solder side. Solder only the toggle switches in at this time. Make sure they are straight.

Solder the small polarity switch in, but solder it raised from the board. Just solder the tips of the pins showing through. It should be raised a little off the board.

Now take the push button switches and remove the lock washers. Put all the push button switches on the box with the nuts to hold them in place for soldering. Solder the small polarity switch in, but solder it raised from the board. Just solder the tips of the pins showing through. It should be raised a little off the board. MAKE SURE IT IS STRIGHT UP AND NOT LEANING. Put the LED s in the board and the USB board. Make sure you have all parts in the correct direction. Now place the box cover over the PCB and align the push button switch pins with the holds on the PCB. You can turn the switch a little to do this. Be careful of the USB and LED s. After the switches are in press the led s into the holes until they are flush. Solder Copyright all rights reserved. 8

The connections are as follows from the top to the bottom +HP, -HP, +S and S. +HP solder to the top two as shown.

10 Your PCB should look like the one below with everything soldered in place. Install the signal and headphone jacks in the box. The 4 pads to solder the connections to are on the side near the jacks when the PCB on mounted on the cover. At this point you should have everything soldered in place and the HP and signal jacks installed. Solder the battery holder in and you almost ready to start the logger up.

If everything checks out connect the unit to a variable power supply to adjust the low battery LED. Watch the polarity! Set the voltage to 10 volts.

Make sure all parts are correct and the controller is plugged in correctly. Check all solder joints before you power the unit up. Check that all parts are in correctly. If everything checks out connect the unit to a variable power supply to adjust the low battery LED. Watch the polarity! Set the voltage to 10 volts. Turn the unit on and you will hear a series of beeps and the log led will blink, press NO. Adjust the power down to 8 volts and adjust Rj6 till the LED just comes on. You want the led on at 8 volts and off above 8 volts. That s the only adjustment. Copyright all rights reserved. 11

12 Now install the batteries and use some foam to make the battery support. Close the unit and test for all functions of the buttons. See the owner s manual for using and testing the unit.
