1 Presentation Presentation The Unity Quantum CPUs are a family of high performance programmable controllers based on 86, 586 and Pentium processors. This family has been designed to be used in a wide variety of applications, from low complexity discrete control, to complex process control applications. Some of the features implemented in these CPUs include: b Superior scan times, and I/O throughput. b Ability to handle interrupts, timed and I/O based. b Handling of Fast task, as well as a Master task. b Data and Program Memory expansion through s. b Multiple communication interfaces embedded in the CPU. b A customer friendly diagnostic and operation LCD display in some model. The processors offer can be differentiated by their memory capacities, processing speeds and communication options. Memory backup, protection and expansion The CPUs store the application program in battery-backed RAM. The battery is located on the front of the module and can be serviced while the CPU is running. To protect the application program from inadvertent changes during operation, the 0 CPU 0 processor feature a memory-protect slide switch. The other Quantum CPUs offer protection in the form of a keyswitch. This key switch can also be used to start and stop the CPUs. A memory protection bit, to be set in configuration mode, is also available to lock any program modifications (via the programming PC or downloading). Some processors have slots for a : b An upper slot to receive memory extension cards (program, symbols, constants and/or data files). b A lower slot to receive memory extension cards specific to the data files. Communication ports All CPUs support: b Modbus RS port (could be set to Modbus RS 85 in some CPUs). b Modbus Plus network port. Depending on the model, Quantum processors can additionally include: b A 0BASE-T/00BASE-TX Ethernet TCP/IP port (RJ5 connection). b One USB type TER port (for connecting a programming terminal). LCD display Some CPU models have an LCD display ( lines by 6 character LCD) with changeable backlight state and contrast.through a keypad and the display the CPUs can be diagnose, some configuration parameters can be set, values can be monitored and the CPUs can be start and stoped. Hot Standby (redundancy) The Quantum CPU 0 CPU will have a dedicated coprocessor with a 00 Mbit/s fiber optic link to manage the Hot Standby functionality. All the parameter for the Hot Standby can be diagnose, an the system can be operated too, through the LCD display. Unity Quantum application design and installation The installation of these Quantum processors requires: b Unity Extra Large programming software. b Possibly Unity Studio software suite, used to design distributed applications. 2 Description 0 CPU A/5 A Description Description of the basic processors The 0 CPU 0, 0 CPU A () and 0 CPU 5 A () processors have the following on the front panel: A display unit consisting of 7 LEDs: v Ready LED (green): the CPU has passed power-up diagnostics. v Run LED (green): the CPU has been started and is solving logic. v Modbus LED (green): communications are active on the Modbus port or. v Modbus Plus LED (green): communications are active on the Modbus Plus port. v Mem Prt LED (orange): write-protected memory (activated memory protection switch). v Bat Low LED (red): the battery needs replacing or is not present. v Error A LED (red): indicates communications error on the Modbus Plus port. v Mem Prt LED (amber): memory is write-protected (the memory protect switch is on). One battery backup slot. One micro-switch to select the Modbus port communication parameters. v One micro-switch (0 CPU 0 only): to write-protect the memory. One key-operated switch (model 0 CPU A/5 A): v Stop position: the programmable controller is stopped and program modifications are not authorized. v Mem Prt position: the programmable controller is either stopped or is running and program modifications are not authorized. v Start position: the programmable controller is either stopped or is running and program modifications are authorized. 5 Two SUB-D 9-pin connector for connecting to the Modbus bus. 6 One SUB-D 9-pin connector for connecting to the Modbus Plus network. 7 A removable pivoted door with personalized identification label. Description of the advanced processors 0 CPU 65 50/60 5 [,, ] The 0 CPU 65 50, 0 CPU and 0 CPU processors have the following on the front panel: LCD display cover openned gives acces to: One key switch: v Unlocked: all system menu operations are able to be invoked and all changeable module parameters are able to be modified by the operator via the LCD and keypad, memory protection is off. v Locked: no system menu operations are able to be invoked and all module parameters are read only, memory protection is on. One battery backup slot. One reset button (RESTART). 5 One LCD display ( line by 6 character LCD) with changeable backlight state and contrast. 6 One keypad: 5 key keypad with LEDs (ESC, ENTER, MOD, ÎI, =>) 7 One RJ5 connector for connecting to the Modbus bus. 8 One USB port (Programming only). 9 One SUB-D 9-pin connector for connecting to the Modbus Plus network. 0 Two slots for s (No. 0 and No. ). Two LEDs: v COM LED (green): indicates Ethernet activity (0 CPU 65 50/60), indicates Primary or Standby activity (0 CPU 67 60), controlled by the coprocessor hardware. v ERR LED (red): indicates Ethernet collision (0 CPU 65 50/60), indicates communications error between the Primary and Standby (0 CPU 67 60), controlled by the coprocessor hardware. One RJ 5 connector for connecting to the Ethernet network (0 CPU 65 50/60 only) v One MTRJ fiber connector, for interconnecting Primary and Standby CPUs (0 CPU only). 3 Memory structure Processor without a PCMCIA memory card or Mb Local data Global and DFBs unlocated data Operating system () Processor with PCMCIA memory card in slot No. 0 Located data Memory structure The application memory is divided into memory areas physically distributed in the internal RAM memory on or PCMCIA memory extension cards (only on processors 0 CPU 65 50/65 60/67 60): Application data area always in the internal RAM. This area is broken down into types of data to be used according to the user s habits and choices: v located data corresponding to the data defined by an address (for example, %MW7) with which a symbol may be associated (for example, Counting_rebus), v unlocated data corresponding to data defined only by a symbol. This type of addressing removes the memory management constraints because addresses are allocated automatically, v DFBs unlocated data corresponding to DFBs user function blocks. The size of this object zone is limited only by the available memory in integrated RAM. According to the application memory size requirements, two memory structures are possible depending on whether the Quantum processor has 0, or PCMCIA memory extension cards: b Application in internal RAM, the application is completely loaded into the processor s battery-backed internal RAM (), the capacity of which depends on the processor model.
