3 Introduction This document explains Metasys Integrator Graham Adjustable Frequency Drive applications. Use this document with the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (FAN 629.5), which provides information on installing and commissioning Metasys Integrator. For information on Graham equipment, see Graham documentation (obtainable from a Graham representative). Application Details Metasys Integrator allows Graham Adjustable Frequency Drives to become an integral part of the Metasys and Metasys Companion Networks. Once the Johnson Controls RS-232 to RS-485 converter (MM-CVT101-0) is connected to a Metasys or Companion Network via the Metasys Integrator, and a Graham B&B MULTI/O MI485D Control Unit is connected to the Adjustable Frequency Drive, each drive can be accessed by the full complement of Metasys Facility Management System (FMS) features, including Change-of-State (COS) monitoring, alarm notification, scheduling, trend, and totalization. The RS-232 to RS-485 converter connects to Metasys Integrator through the RS-232 port. The B&B MULTI/O MI485D Control Unit is the interface between Graham equipment and non-graham devices (such as Metasys Integrator). Each Metasys Integrator vendor port can connect to one RS-485 converter. Each converter can connect to 31 B&B MULTI/O MI485D Control Units. Each control unit connects to one Adjustable Frequency Drive. Figure 1 shows Graham and Metasys integration, and Figure 2 shows Graham and Metasys Companion integration. Metasys Integrator supports two Graham drive models: Model 1576 and Model Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator Graham Application 3

5 Component Requirements Metasys Release Requirements Metasys Companion Release Requirements To integrate Graham equipment, you ll need: Johnson Controls RS-232 to RS-485 converter (Order Number MM-CVT101-0) Graham Adjustable Frequency Drives, each connected to a B&B MULTI/O MI485D Control Unit RS-232 cable for connecting the converter to Metasys Integrator RS wire cable (for connecting the converter to the control unit) Metasys Integrator N2 Bus (for connecting Metasys Integrator to the Metasys or Companion Network) portable PC for downloading vendor communication tables (.VCT files) and network setup information into Metasys Integrator, drive communication settings, and for running diagnostics Graham setup software (supplied by Graham; Graham representatives are responsible for the setup and operation of Graham equipment) cable for connecting portable PC to Metasys Integrator the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) to download into Metasys Integrator (supplied on Metasys Integrator diskette) This document describes the RS-232 cable and the vendor communication tables. Graham documentation describes their equipment. The remaining components are described in the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin. To integrate Graham equipment into the Metasys Network, you ll need: Metasys OWS software Release 4.0 or higher Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 4.0 or higher To integrate Graham equipment into the Metasys Companion Network, you ll need: Metasys Companion Release 4.0 or higher Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 4.0 or higher Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator Graham Application 5

6 Vendor Component Requirements Integration between Metasys Integrator and Graham has been tested with the equipment listed in Table 1. Changes to this equipment or integration of Graham products not discussed in this document will require additional software development and testing by Systems Products. For information on integrating other products, call Engineering Services in Milwaukee (extension 4357). Bradley Road Milwaukee, WI Application Technical Support: Phone: (414) FAX: (414) When integrating Graham equipment, keep the following considerations in mind: Make sure all Graham equipment is set up, started, and running properly before attempting to integrate with the Metasys or Companion Network. (The Graham representative is responsible for operation of Graham equipment.) Make sure the Adjustable Frequency Drive baud rate is set to 9600 baud. (The Graham representative is responsible for setting the Adjustable Frequency Drive s baud rate.) RS-232 cable distance between Metasys Integrator and the RS-232 to RS-485 converter can be a maximum of 50 feet. Cable distance between the converter and the last Adjustable Frequency Drive can be a maximum of 10,000 feet (for 16 Adjustable Frequency Drives or less). If there are more than 16 drives (from 17 to 31), the maximum distance is 4000 feet. Since capacity control (which variable speed drives are often applied to) requires very fast control loops, this integration does not support output control. For output control, connect these drives to local controllers. 6 Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator Graham Application
