2 Classroom Control System This room is equipped with a Crestron control panel to automate the projector, lighting, and audio systems. It is located on the right side of the desk and is activated simply by touching the screen. When you first activate the screen, a welcome message will appear. The left column of buttons is the main menu. To begin, press the round Home Screen green ON button at the top of the screen. This will turn on the data projector and set all the sound levels to their default level. Every time the system is turned on, the audio channels will default to mute. To turn on sound for various devices, see the instructions below. Video Selection Audio Controls Once the system is turned on, press the button on the left side of the screen labeled VIDEO. This will bring up a list of video sources that can be displayed on the data projector. Choose the source you want to display by pressing the button on the right. If you are using the document camera, you must also make sure the camera is turned on (a grey switch located near the back of the unit) To turn on sound for the microphones, computers, or VCR/DVD player, press the AUDIO button located in the left column. A list of audio channels will appear. Turn on the sources you want to hear using the MUTE buttons (grey indicates channel is active, red indicates muted). Adjust the volume if necessary using the up and down arrows.

3 Desktop Computer Press the black power button located at the center of the computer system unit (located in the desk cabinet). You should see a green light appear. If you do not see an image on the LCD screen, use the switch located on the bottom right edge of the screen. You should see another green light on the monitor if the power is on. If you wish to use the LCD Data Projector, turn it on now. (See separate instructions for Data Projector) If you wish to use the Classroom Sound System, turn the amplifier on now. (See separate instructions for Sound System) Wait approximately 30 seconds for the computer to boot. You should see a login screen when it is complete. Enter your login username (usually firstname.lastname ) and your password (initially your ID number). Ensure that the Domain is set to uleth If you do not have a login username for the University network, contact the Information Technology department at When you are finished, select Logoff from the start menu.

4 Laptop Computer Locate the laptop connection cables on the side of the desk cabinet. Carefully connect the cables to the back of your laptop. If you wish to use the LCD Data Projector, turn it on now. (See separate instructions for Data Projector) If you wish to use the Classroom Sound System, turn the amplifier on now. (See separate instructions for Sound System) Once the data projector is turned on and set to the correct input, turn on your laptop computer and the image should appear. Most laptops will enable their video output when they are connected in the correct order. Remember to connect the cables and turn on the projector before you turn on your laptop. NOTE: If you have turned on the LCD Data Projector and your laptop and the projector display is not working, you may have to ACTIVATE your laptop s CRT output. You should consult your laptop manual for this procedure. Most laptops have an FN key located somewhere near the bottom left of the keyboard. You should also see a Laptop docking connectors If you are not sure what key to press for the video output, here are some common laptop manufacturers and the appropriate keystrokes: Your laptop should be set to a 1024x768 resolution for optimal performance. function key either marked LCD/CRT or displaying a small screen icon. Pressing these buttons at the same time will toggle the CRT output on and off. If you have difficulty with this procedure, please contact the Information Technology help desk. Dell IBM or Sony Toshiba or HP Compaq Hold Fn and press the appropriate function key. FN+F8 FN+F7 FN+F5 FN+F4

5 VCR + DVD Player If the unit is not turned on, press the power button on the front panel. Using the control system, select DVD or VCR input from the VIDEO screen and wait for the projector to display the image. Carefully insert the cassette or DVD you wish to play. If the cassette or DVD does not load easily into the unit, contact classroom support. From the left column on the control screen, press either DVD or VCR to bring up the playback controls. Alternatively, you can use the supplied Panasonic remote control in the desk cabinet. For advanced DVD playback functions, press the Advanced Controls button and additional menu options will appear. This will allow you to search discs with many chapters more easily. If you experience problems: If you can t hear any audio, check to ensure that the mute is not enabled (on the touch panel AUDIO screen) and that the volume is turned up. If you can t see any video, ensure that the playback is enabled and that the Crestron control system is set to the DVD or VCR input. (on the touch panel VIDEO screen) Control system screens for DVD and VCR controls.

6 Visual Presenter Transparencies and textbook material can be transferred to the projected image using the visual presenter located on the left side of the podium. To activate the camera: Turn on the grey power switch located near the back of the unit. Set the control system video input to Document Camera. (see attached control system instructions) If you do not see an image immediately, ensure that the left-most input button on the front of the presenter is depressed. The camera can be manually focused or automatically by holding down the AF button. To magnify the image, press the zoom buttons on the front panel (Tele = Zoom IN, Wide = Zoom OUT) If you are using material that requires backlighting, press the lamp button on the front panel to toggle between the top and bottom lamps. When you are finished using the presenter, please turn off the camera switch to conserve electricity. Do not write directly on the presenter s white backdrop surface, even with dry-erase markers. This can permanently stain the surface and render it unusable for other instructors!

7 Smart Panel The smart panel can be used to navigate presentations, annotate documents, and for mouse control. The system automatically activates when you log in to the classroom computer. You will see two icons on the desktop to access advanced features of the tablet. Remove the stylus from its storage slot on the right side of the panel. When using the stylus, apply gentle pressure to the surface of the screen to avoid damage. For mouse control, press the mouse cursor button on the top of the screen and use the stylus to navigate. Right-clicking is achieved by pressing the right-mouse button on the bottom of the screen, then tapping the stylus at the desired location. To annotate your documents, press one of the three colored pen buttons on the top of the screen. The stylus will now overlay pen annotation on your document. To return to mouse control press the mouse cursor button again. If you wish to clear or erase the annotation, press the eraser button and then touch the area you wish to erase with the stylus. For screen capture, recording annotations, and advanced tools press the buttons on the tool palate located at the bottom of the screen. PE250: Use the laptop connections to the left of the Sympodium and double tap the Scroll Lock button on the Desktop Computer s keyboard If you notice that the stylus is inaccurate or not functioning properly, the device may need to be re-oriented.. Please call classroom support to request this procedure.

8 Wireless Microphone The Wireless microphone is located in the desk cabinet under the DVD/VHS player. Press and hold the button located on the top of the unit until a green light appears. (on/off/mute button) If you see an amber light, press the button once more to disable the mute feature. The front screen should indicate channel 1, group 1. If this is not the case, use the front panel button to set the device to channel 1. Microphone Transmitter Pack Please remember to turn off the wireless microphone to conserve battery power for other users. Extra batteries are available in the podium cabinet.
