A social networking site and a great tool for communication. Google + integrates many Google services such as Calendar, YouTube, Gmail, and ads a social layer by connecting them in a social media platform. Use this app to scan QR codes using the ipad s built in camera. Once a code is scanned, users are taken to the website or URL intended by the creator of the code. A cloud-based file storage app. Save files in Dropbox and then synchronize them across devices. Files and folders can also be shared with others and are accessible through the Dropbox webpage. A social-networking app that connects users through sharing pictures, videos, messages, wallposts, and more. Use the app to post, chat, and connect with Facebook friends. Sign in using your Evernote account to sync your Skitch notes across all devices. You can then access and share them anytime. Skitch notes will be saved in Evernote as its own Notebook. Users can then sync these notes across devices so they are accessible anywhere and anytime. Notes can also be shared with others. Over 1400 inspirational TEDTalk videos are available to view through this app. The world s most fascinating people and ideas are shared through these talks, with new content added daily. Browse by popularity, tags, language, or theme. Connect with others through Skype instant messaging and video calls. The app allows users to use their camera on the ipad to video chat. Send files, screen share, as well as sent instant and text messages. Connects you to your student account at Lethbridge College. You can view your course schedule, maps, events, and directory. It s good to sign up for an Evernote account, as it is compatible and integrated with many other apps such as Skitch and Penultimate. The content you create in these other apps will then be automatically synced to your Evernote notebook. You don t have to create a login or account with the TED app, but you can save the talks you like for offline viewing. Collaborate EBSCO Host Join a live web conference, meeting, tutoring session, or other online meeting and interact by viewing their presentation, communicating with chat, audio, and other interactive features. Search databases for information and academic journal articles. Choose which databases to search by relevance, date, keyword, peerreviewed, and full-text. You will receive a session URL from the person (most likely your instructor) who is hosting the web conference. You will log in using this code, enter your name so others can view it in the web conference, and you will be ready to go! This app was originally created for iphone, so it will show up smaller on your screen. Use the zoom in the bottom right hand corner to make the app bigger. Read PDF s while zooming, searching, bookmarking, and navigating with one touch. Highlight, mark, underline, and comment on the document and then share them with others. Download and read books and e-zines, while storing them on your ibooks bookshelf. Flip, swipe, and bookmark pages in your books and read them offline once downloaded. PDF s can also be stored on your bookshelf. Another ebook app that allows you to download and read content on your ipad. Kindle has the largest online library of downloadable content with over a million ebooks, textbooks, magazines, and newspapers available. Access your online course materials through Canvas, LC s Learning Management System. Here you can submit assignments, contact your instructors, and access learning materials posted by your instructor. These apps will allow you to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook from your device. These are fantastic productivity apps that can help you work on, save and share documents between your computer and mobile device. The Great West Life s mobile GroupNet app will allow you to manage your LCSA Student health and dental plan. You can use the app to submit claims, view your cards, and find local direct-bill providers. The first time you open this app, click on the Getting Started. pdf which will walk you through the many ways you can use Adobe Reader. Many documents give you the option of opening them in Adobe by clicking the button or Open In option. You will need an Apple ID to preview, download and purchase books from the ibooks store. You may use the ipad s accessibility features in ibooks such as Voice Over, which will read the ibook aloud to you. If you have an account with Amazon, you will use this to login to Kindle. This app is also compatible with accessibility features, and allows you to customize the way the ebook looks to optimize your reading experience. You will need to enter your school URL: Lethbridge.instructure.com to locate Lethbridge College. Your login will be your s# and your password will be your birthdate in the format of YYMMDD with the letters LC after. Example: LC If you are on an ipad or Apple device, you will need to download each app (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) separately. You can install these apps on up to 5 devices by using your Office 365 sign in. Apple users will need to download the iphone app, as there is not an app specific for ipad. 5 MyEAP Accessibility Services Book Creator TouchCast You can access student counseling and the Student Support program provided by Shepell-fgi through this app. Here you will find 24/7 access to counseling, financial advice, legal advice, and more. Designed for students registered with Accessibility Services (AS), this app provides a channel for booking accommodated exams, contacting AS staff, receiving notification reminders, scanning documents for screenreading, and accessing technology training videos on the go! Create ebooks including picture books, photo books, journals, textbooks, and more. You can then easily share your creation with others or publish to the ibooks store. Great for projects where you want to have pictures, text, sound, and video all come together in one place! Create a newscast-like video that is brought to life by web pages, images, YouTube Clips, Twitter streams, and other vapps. The video is a twoway experience that can be interactive to those you share it with. Create these rich broadcasts in minutes directly from your ipad. Great for short presentations where you would like to bring in various media while narrating at the same time. The free tool offers all of the basic tools (adding pictures, shapes, text, video, pen, and sound) and you can easily export this book to ibooks, send via , or export to Google Drive. Pictures that you use must first be saved in Camera Roll. Videos have a 5-minute time limit. Once you save your TouchCast, it is shared publicly on their cloud storage and searchable by other users. 6 Additional Tips for App Users: Signing In to Apps: Many apps require you to create an account or login so that your preferences and content created in the app may be saved. Since there are many apps, you may want to keep a record of these login and passwords in a safe and secure place. There are also downloadable password applications that can safely store all your password information in one location. Apple ID- In order to access content from itunes, the App Store, ibooks, icloud, and other Apple Stores, you will need to have an Apple ID. If you are sharing your ipad with others and have used your Apple ID to download/purchase something, you will need to sign out by going to the ipad Settings> itunes & App Stores>click on your Apple ID> Sign Out. Closing Apps: If you are no longer using an app, it is good to close them as they will remain running in the background and may use battery power. To close apps, double click the home button until all running apps appear with the icon at the bottom and a preview screen above. Swipe the preview screen up and it will disappear and close. You can close multiple apps by swiping them up to the top of the screen. Signing Out of Apps: If you are sharing an ipad, you will need to make sure that you sign out of an app, not simply close it. This will keep your login and account information secure, as well as anything else you did within the app. Each app that you sign in to will have a link to log out that you will have to find. Push Notifications: When you access/sign in to an app for the first time, it will often ask you for permission to send Push Notifications to your device. If you give permission for push notifications to a specific app, that app will be able to send you information (via notification, alert, or pop up message) even when you are not using that app. Although these are great for notifying you when something is updated within an app, you may not want to use these all the time, or for certain apps.
