3 Introduction This addendum provides detailed guidance on performing Lab 5, Using the VMware vsphere Web Client of the VMware vsphere 5.5 Install, Configure, Manage course, using a NETLAB+ system. Objective: Navigate and customize the vsphere Web Client In this lab, you will be using the vclient virtual machine to complete your objectives. You will be performing the following tasks: 1. Navigate the vsphere web client 2. Pin and unpin panes 3. Hide the Getting Started tabs 6/2/ Page 3 of 9

5 1 Navigate the vsphere Web Client 1. Click on the vclient graphic on the topology page. 2. Log into the vclient VM with the username sysadmin and password vmware Open the Chrome web browser by clicking on the icon at the left side of the screen. 4. Click Proceed anyway on the warning page. 5. Type admin in the Username field. 6. Type vmware in the Password field. 7. At the top of the page, click the Go Home icon. 8. In the main workspace pane, click on the Home tab. 9. Click on the Hosts and Clusters icon. After expanding the inventory, you should be able to see your vcenter Server named vcenter-1, your Training Datacenter, Lab Cluster, your esxi-1 and esxi-2 hosts along with their associated virtual machines. 10. Click the quick navigation menu button at the top-right corner of the content area and select Lab Cluster. 11. Navigate quickly to the top-level object by clicking on the vcenter-1 entry at the top of the Object Navigator pane. 6/2/ Page 5 of 9

6 12. In the Search dialog box, type Local-51 and then click the Local-51 hyperlink in the search results. 13. Click on the Summary tab. 14. Information regarding the local datastore will be displayed. 15. When you finish looking through the datastore information, click on the Go to vcenter icon at the top of the page. 6/2/ Page 6 of 9

7 2 Pin and Unpin Panes In this task, you explore some customization settings for the VMware vsphere Web Client. 1. Under Inventory Trees, in the Object Navigator pane, click on Hosts and Clusters. 2. In the Object Navigator pane, click on vcenter In the main workspace area, click on the Related Objects tab, followed by the Hosts button and then click on your esxi-1 host. 4. In the Object Navigator pane, click the unpin icon. 5. Click in the main workspace area. 6/2/ Page 7 of 9

8 6. What happens to the Object Navigator pane? 7. Hover your mouse cursor over the Object Navigator pane. 8. What happens to the Object Navigator pane? 9. Click the pin icon to re-pin the window. 10. In the bottom-right corner of the VMware vsphere Web Client is the Alarms window. Click on the Maximize (square) icon to expand the Alarms window. 11. To restore the Alarms window, click on the Restore Down (overlapping squares) icon. (Do not worry about any alarms that show up in this window at this point.) 6/2/ Page 8 of 9

9 3 Hide the Getting Started Tabs In this task, you will hide the Getting Started Tabs. 1. Click on the Home button in the title bar. 2. Click on the Help drop-down menu in the title bar and click Hide All Getting Started Pages. 3. Click on the Hosts and Clusters icon under the Object Navigator pane and record the first tab you see. 4. Click on the Help drop-down menu in the title bar and click Show All Getting Started Pages. 5. Record the first tab you see in the main workspace area. 6. You may now close your VMware vsphere Web Client and vclient windows. 6/2/ Page 9 of 9
