1 Acorn Public Library District ebooks + eaudiobooks for Kindle Questions? Call the Reference Department at Our Media On Demand service provides ebooks and eaudiobooks that are compatible with standard Kindles. You will need the following information: Your library card number and SWAN PIN Your Amazon.com account login and password Please note: Amazon keeps a record of what you download through this service, and may use that information for its purposes. The Library can t enforce its privacy policy on Amazon s end. 1. On a computer, go to and log in using the account information you have registered with your Kindle. 2. Once you are logged in to Amazon, visit this website to access our e-books: Hit the Sign in link in the upper right: Page 1 of 7

2 On the Login screen, select Acorn Public Library District from the dropdown menu you will then be prompted to enter your library card number and PIN. Your PIN is your SWAN PIN. If you do not have a SWAN PIN, go to to set one up. Enter your full name as it appears on your card (example: Mary Nelson) and the barcode number (without spaces) from your library card. Next, create your new PIN (it should be 6 or more characters; it can be numbers or letters or both) in the "Enter your PIN" box. Click "Submit", then enter this new PIN two more times. You now have your new SWAN PIN! 3. Once logged in, you are ready to view our selection. You can either browse by genre using the black bar at the top of the screen, or run a search in the box in the upper right: Hit the View more link under each subheading to see a complete list of the available genres: 4. Once you are browsing, you can refine or sort the results using the options on the left. Select Kindle Book under the Format heading. Page 2 of 7

3 5. Our ebooks have a limited number of copies, like physical books, and it is possible that all copies of a title will be checked out. If you just want to browse books that are currently available, hit the blue Available Now button in the upper right: 6. When you find a book you are interested in, click on its cover. If the book is available, you will see a big blue Borrow button. Otherwise it will say Place a Hold. Look to the right of the screen to make sure it is available in Kindle format, then press the Borrow button to check it out: If you placed a hold, you will be asked to enter your address you will then be ed when your copy becomes available. 7. Once the book is checked out, it will appear in the Bookshelf on your Account screen. To access the Bookshelf, click the big blue button again or use the Account link at the top of the screen: Page 3 of 7

4 8. The book should be listed on your Bookshelf. Click the blue Download button, and select the Kindle Book option. Then click Confirm & Download : 9. At this point you will be directed back to Amazon. The Amazon page should show a Get library book button to the right. The dropdown menu underneath lets you choose how you want to transfer it, and to which device. Make sure it is displaying the name of your Kindle. Page 4 of 7

5 At this point the process can differ: If you have a wi-fi enabled Kindle, then the book will transfer automatically, and will be usable just like a regular Kindle book. You re finished! o.unless your book was published by Penguin. Books published by Penguin Group (including imprints) can no longer be synced wirelessly, and must be manually transferred as detailed on the next page. If you have an older Kindle 1, 2, or DX, or other Kindle with only 3G support, then you will need to transfer the book via wired connection, as detailed on the following pages. Amazon does not allow library book transfer over 3G. 10. To begin wired transfer, hit the yellow Download now button that appears after you click Get library book in step 9 above. 11. You will be prompted to save the file. Do so. It will save to the download location set in your browser. Page 5 of 7

6 If you do not know where the file is saved, you can search your computer for azw to find any e- book file in the kindle format. 12. Attach your Kindle via USB, and open the drive on your computer. 13. Now you just need to transfer the downloaded file to the documents folder of your Kindle, either by cutting and pasting or clicking and dragging. Page 6 of 7
